Douglas Weber, pilot
There aren't too many people trained to land an airplane on an aircraft carrie r, but Douglas A. Weber was one of them.
As a pilot in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Weber landed his fighter plane on carriers.
His aviation ability was just one of the things that made her husband special, Patricia Weber said.
"He just had some outstanding talents and was an extremely bright man," Mrs. Weber said.
Mr. Weber, 75, of Dayton, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
After the war, Mr. Weber worked several jobs before becoming a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Newport.
He cared about the ailing and elderly on his routes, and he carried candy with him for children, his wife said. He spent more than 20 years with the postal service before retiring in the mid-1980s.
As a retiree, Mr. Weber played in the Campbell County Seniors golf league and the Hamilton County bowling league.
Other survivors include brothers, David Weber of Johnson City, Tenn.; Keith Weber of Bellevue; and Kenneth Weber of St. James City, Fla.
Services will be at noon Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Ellanora S. Allen, 92, of Elsmere, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a hairstylist and owner of Allen's Beauty Salon and Allen's Hairstyling.
Her husband, Paul Raymond Allen, died in 1980.
Survivors include a niece, Barbara O'Brien of Elsmere, and a nephew, William A. Sherman of Erlanger.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Barbara Church, Erlanger, with visitation from 10 a.m.
Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.
Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Gus F. Bierman, 83, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at his home. A retired dry-cleaner with Munster Cleaners in Bellevue, he was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Super Seniors of Alexandria and the Bellevue Retirees.
A son, Michael Bierman, died Sept. 3.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Marie Bierman; a stepson, Edward Scott of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Beverly Schappell of Loveland, Ohio; stepdaughters, Joyce Butsch of Alexandria, Cathy Price of Florence and Cynthia Tischner of Melbourne; two grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexandria Funeral Home, with visitation from 9 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Memorials are suggested to Main Street Baptist Church Book of Remembrance, 306 W. Main St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.
Carlton W. Bradford, 83, of Erlanger, died Thursday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Cora Francis Carpenter, 80, of Perry Park, formerly of Florence, died Thursday at Owenton Manor Nursing Home, Owenton. She was a former cashier with Rinks Grocery stores.
Survivors include her husband, Irwin L. Carpenter; daughters, Donna Miller and Barbara Howard Davis of Florence; stepdaughters, Debbie Wood of Florence and Karen Cutebirth of Erlanger; a sister, Ann Parrish of Summerville, S.C.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence.
Margurite E. Davis, 89, of Latonia, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Raymond James Haar, 19, of Florence, died Wednesday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Phil and Linda Haar of Florence; a sister, Jessie Cook of Elsmere; a brother, Allen Haar, at home; and grandparents, Jim and Betty Cook of Elsmere.

Ronald K. Helton, 61, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown.
He was a retired assembly-line worker with General Motors Corp. in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Roark Helton; daughters, Jeana Billman of Vanceburg and Lisa Hastings of Demossville; his mother, Mary King Helton of LaFollette, Tenn.; brothers, Dennis Helton of Elk, Wash., David Helton of Path Fork and Daniel Helton of Trenton, Ohio; sisters, Dorthalene Siler of Williamsburg and Wilma Howard and Brenda Mullins of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden, with visitation from 1 p.m. Burial will be in Crittenden Cemetery. Rosemary Kelly, 79, of Latonia, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a retired sales clerk with McAlpin's department store and a member of St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill.
Her husband, Edward F. Kelly, died in 1998. Survivors include a son, Michael Kelly of Latonia; sisters, Ruth Dirheimer of Florence, Martha Nipper of Westwood, Ohio, and Helen Currin of Fort Wright; one grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mother of God cemetery Chapel, Fort Wright, with visitation from 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery.

Eva Barrow Meyer, 85, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
She was a retired waitress with Frisch's, Womack's and Lloyd's One East.
Her husband, Henry Meyer, died in May.
Survivors include sons, Fred Meyer of Lakeside Park, Michael Meyer of Gresham, Ore., and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, where prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Lucian Noble Jr., 64, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Noble; sons, Lucian Noble III of Fort Wright, Mark Noble of El Paso, Texas, Walter Noble of Newport, Richard Noble and Roland Noble of Covington; a daughter, Linda Haley of Covington; brothers, Robert Noble of Union, Larry Noble of Elsmere and Norman Noble of Metropolis, Ill.; a sister, Wanda Davis of Metropolis; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation from 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Veterans Administration Military Cemetery, Dayton.
Alvera Stadtmiller Rosenfield, 74, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.
