Gary Laney, devoted minister
Throughout his life, Gary Laney was drawn toward the ministry and helping his fellow man.
"He very much had a calling for the ministry, and to help people. He loved people and he would do anything he could to help them," said Mr. Laney's wife, Connie.
Mr. Laney, 59, of Hebron, died Sunday in St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He owned Laney and Associates, an insurance agency in Florence, and was a minister with the New Covenant Fellowship, also in Florence.
Mr. Laney had been involved with church work in one capacity or another for much of his life, his wife said. He was the first minister of the New Covenant Fellowship, which was formed a couple of years ago in a rented facility near his insurance agency, she said.
Back in the 1970s, Mr. Laney was associated with Teen Challenge in Cincinnati and had affiliations with several other churches in the area, Mrs. Laney said.
Her husband was active at one point with the Gideon Society, with a church in Hebron in the 1980s and more recently with Storehouse Ministries in Covington, Mrs. Laney said.
A native of the Erlanger-Elsmere area, Mr. Laney had operated his insurance agency, specializing in life and health insurance, since 1995, Mrs. Laney said.
His large family and devotion to the Lord were Mr. Laney's primary interests in life, his wife said. "His main direction was to live life to its fullest, as God would have you live it."
Other survivors include sons, Gary Laney and Tony Laney, both of Elsmere, Scott Laney of Hickory, N.C., and Steve Laney of Granger, Ind.; daughters, Rebecca Collins of Fort Wright, Christy Loftin of Burlington and Christina Brown of Hebron; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to New Covenant Fellowship, 2081 Treetop Lane, Hebron, Ky. 41048.
Hollis Dwight Bell, 65, of Latonia Lakes, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired truck driver with the former Polinsky Co. in Cincinnati and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Taylor Mill.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Lorene Bell; a son, Harold Bell of Latonia; daughters, Jessica Albaugh of Latonia Lakes and Hope Bell of Erlanger; his parents, Luther and Flossie Bell of Florence; brothers, Robert Bell of Florence and Al Bell of Key West, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 6056 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, Ky. 41015.
Hazel B. Farris, 75, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include nephews, Billy Cummins and Danny Cummins, both of Dry Ridge.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.
Roy Hacker, 82, of Covington, died at 11:25 p.m. Friday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a retired employee of Independent Floor Covering Co., Florence, and F. A. Kamp Co. He was a member of Decoursey Baptist Church in Fairview.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Everman Hacker; a son, Dennis Hacker of St. Louis; daughters, Joyce Lee Ruf of Ryland Heights and Sharon Gail Fry of Taylor Mill; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 3 p.m. Tuesda. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Decoursey Baptist Church, 8276 Decoursey Pike, Covington, Ky. 41015.
Viola Wilson Jusbasic, 79, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:40 p.m. Friday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas. She was a retired waitress with Sheraton Gibson Hotel and Minute-Chef Restaurant in Cincinnati and a member of Restaurant Employees Union Local No. 12 in Cincinnati. She was a member of Carmel Manor Chapel in Fort Thomas. Her husband, Matthew Jusbasic, died in 1975.
Survivors include sons, James Jusbasic and Donald Jusbasic, both of Newport; a daughter, Brenda Flowers of Cincinnati; sisters, Myrtle Metcalfe of Harlan and Mildred Wilson of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.
Tyler Lee Kersey, 5 months, died Friday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Sharon Kersey and Nick Walker, both of Cincinnati; foster parents, Debbie and Jerry Smith of Florence; seven foster brothers and sisters; and his grandfather, Matt Kersey of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Joseph T. Lockhart, 71, of Crescent Springs, died at 11:27 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired plant manager with Alcon Co. in New Jersey, a member of First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg and an Army Air Corps veteran.
Survivors include sons, Stephen Lockhart of Diamond Springs, Calif., Joseph Lockhart Jr. of Colonia, N.J., and Robert Lockhart of Washington, N.J.; his mother, Ada Beatrice Lockhart of Park Hills; a sister, Martha Lockhart of Park Hills; and four grandchildren.

William P. Meyer Sr., 84, of Fort Mitchell, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. He was retired from Sports Service Inc. and formerly owned Meyer's Grocery, Fort Mitchell. He was a former member of St. Henry Parish, Elsmere, and St. Peter in Chains Church, Cincinnati, where he was an usher. He was a former Boy Scout leader. His wife, Hilda Elizabeth Fahey Meyer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, William Meyer Jr. of Park Hills and Mark F. Meyer of Edgewood; daughters, Mary Ann Knaley of Florence and Judy Ann Crone of Hebron; a brother, Edward F. Meyer of Fort Mitchell; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Mary "Jean" Noel, 67, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of First Church of Christ, Burlington.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Noel; a daughter, Anita Noel of Florence; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Helen Hardebeck Southoron, 90, of Fort Wright, died Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.

Carolyn Goebel Taylor, 65, of Harrisburg, N.C., formerly of Covington, died Friday at University Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
Survivors include her husband, John A. "Jack" Taylor; daughters, Cindy Taylor of Charlotte and Peggy Taylor of Detroit; sons, Doug Taylor of Charlotte and Scott Taylor of Detroit; her mother, Etta Aldridge of Harrisburg; and two granddaughters.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hankins & Whittington Wilson Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Helen L. Wartman, 94, of Highland Heights, died Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a printer. Her husband, Joseph Wartman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Theresa Wilson, 73, of Williamstown, died at 1:17 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
