Helen Hardebeck Sothoron, involved in her community
Helen Hardebeck Sothoron will be remembered as a caring, involved woman who belonged to almost a dozen different groups and didn't slow down much in her old age.
"She liked to help organizations. That was her forte," nephew Charles Seifert said.
Ms. Sothoron, 90, of Fort Wright, died Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a retired secretary with AT&T; in Cincinnati and a member of St. Paul Christian Community Church in Fort Wright. The lifelong Northern Kentucky resident was born in Covington and attended Crescent Springs Elementary School and Holmes High School.
Her husband, Woodford Sothoron, died in 1994. Both were very involved in their community, her nephew said.
"They both were real helpful to people," Seifert said.
"Just real, super-nice people."
Mrs. Sothoron was a past president of the St. Paul United Church of Christ Women's Guild in Fort Wright, a past matron of the Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star and a former officer of the Covington White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was a charter member of the South Hills board of directors and was the city clerk. She was also a secretary and treasurer of the South Hills Civic Club and chairwoman of the South Hills Mother's March of Dimes.
Mrs. Sothoron also participated in the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army and was active in AARP.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Christian Community Church. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Buford E. Adams, 84, of Warsaw, died of cancer Monday at his home. He was a farmer, a member of Warsaw Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Vachel Adams, died in 1989.
Survivors include daughters, Joy Davis of Warsaw and Helen Bromwell of Carrollton; a son, Wendell Adams of Glencoe; a sister, Virgie Sanders of Warsaw; a brother, Sam Adams of Carrollton; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.
James E. "Jay" Berte, 70, of Fort Wright, was found dead Wednesday in Devou Park. He was a retired employee of Wiedeman Brewing Co. There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visi tation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in High land Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Thomas M. Blackwell, 51, of Vevay, Ind., died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a groom with Turfway Park in Florence.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Blackwell; a stepson, John C. Workman of Vevay; a brother, Martin Blackwell of Grove City, Calif.; a sister, Mar tha Brown of Grove City; and one grandson.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Horse man's Recreation Room, 7500 Turfway Road, Florence. Memo rials are suggested to charity. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Lucy Benson Blaine Clarke, 95, of Maysville, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Maysville. Her first husband, Robert G. Blaine, died in 1940. Her second husband, John W. Clarke, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Craig Clarke of Lexington; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. to day at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Edmonia Virginia Lee Harper, 81, of Covington, died Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Geri Hutsell and Sandra Pate; sons, Tyrone Hall, Jesse Hall and Julius Hall; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. James A.M.E. Church, Covington. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington. John R. Martin, 91, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a civil engineer. His wife, Geraldine Martin, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Martin of Bay City, Mich.; sons, Bruce Martin of Des Moines, Iowa, and David Martin of Atlanta; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Thomas. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Charlotte McDivit Megerle, 86, of Cincinnati, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Western Hills Retirement Village in Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia McDivit of Dallas; sons, Peter McDivit of Dallas and Tim McDivit of Aurora, Ill.; stepdaughters, Jean Hartmann and Joan Wilcox, both of Cincinnati, and Judy Megerle of Kentucky; a stepson, James Megerle of Sarasota, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mable Reinhardt, 82, of Independence, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice Unit, Covington.

Clyde L. Schroth, 90, of Crescent Springs, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He owned a landscaping business in Northern Kentucky and was a member of Crescent Springs Presbyterian Church, where he was a church elder and Sunday school superintendent. He was a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts and was honored in 1987 by the City of Crescent Springs for his years of community service.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Estelle Deglow Schroth; sons, Gary Schroth of Fort Wright, Bruce Schroth and John "Jack" Schroth, both of Crescent Springs; a daughter, Janet Stadtmiller of Crescent Springs; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Marida "Buddy" Trent Jr., 65, of Edgewood, died Sunday at his home. He was pastor of Shield of Faith Pentecostal Church in Newport, a retired employee of R. A. Jones Co. in Crescent Springs and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Lee Trent; a daughter, Rhonda Trent of Aiken, S.C.; sisters, Audrey Ohmer of Norwood, Ohio, Mary Lou Kerns of Fort Thomas and Pamela Childers of Newport; a brother, Floyd Strub of Los Alamos, N.M.; and two grandchildren.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Shield of Faith Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Larry Allen "Buddy" Ward, 60, of Brooksville, died Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a hydrate plant operator with Black River Lime Co., a mechanic and farmer and a member of St. James Church, Brooksville.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Johnson Ward; a daughter, Ella Dawn Ward Kelsch of Augusta; a son, Larry Patrick "L. P." Ward of Brooksville; sisters, Barbara Monson of Independence and Connie Coffey of Brooksville; brothers, Rick Ward and Donnie Ward, both of Brooksville; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Church, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Margaret M. Weisenberger, 99, of Villa Hills, died Monday at Madonna Manor in Villa Hills.

Theresa Wilson, 73, of Williamstown, died at 1:17 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a bookkeeper with U-Store Mini-Warehouse in Williamstown, a former clerk with Caldwell Bros. Grocery and Wal-mart stores in Williamstown, and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Williamstown.
Survivors include a sister, Allene Caldwell of Williamstown; a niece and a nephew.
