Harold Reed, organized Covington Turners sports teams
Harold Glenn Reed strongly believed in the motto of his beloved sports organization, the Covington Turners: "Sound Mind, Sound Body."
Mr. Reed helped organize Turners teams for kids for 20 years and adult softball and golf leagues with his son, Derrick G. Reed of Cincinnati.
He was also part owner of the Cincinnati Suds, a professional softball team in the 1970s.
Mr. Reed, a native of Covington, died of colon and liver cancer Wednesday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills Campus, in Cincinnati. He was 61.
"He was loved by a lot of people," said his son, Derrick Reed. "He was one of the most honest people you had ever met."
Derrick Reed said his father was always organizing trips and outings to Florida and Myrtle Beach for the golf and softball leagues they participated in together. His father had a lot of friends, he said.
Mr. Reed, who lived in Cincinnati when he died, graduated from Beechwood High School and Thomas More College and started his own promotion business in Cincinnati.
He was a member of the Colonel Clay Masonic Lodge No. 159 and a veteran of the Air Force.
Other survivors include his wife, Judith A. Raper Reed; a son, Robert D. Reed, of Cincinnati; a daughter, Kelly N. Reed of Hamilton, Ohio; brothers, Bill Reed of Phoenix, Jim Reed of Florence and Gary Reed of Taylor Mill; sisters, Joyce Byland of Minooka, Ill., Wanda Welbers and Linda Hamilton, both of Covington.
Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Covington Turners, 443 Pike St. in Covington.
Mr. Reed bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Alma Francis Stewart Beach, 77, of Jonesville, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Jonesville. Her husband, Clifford Beach, died in 1998.
Survivors include a sister, Emogene Kinman of Jonesville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Jonesville.
Ruby D. Perry Bumgardner, 61, of Morning View, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Albert Bumgardner, died in 1997. A son, Dwayne Bumgardner, died in 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Smith of Morning View; sons, Mike Bumgardner of Hebron, Pat Bumgardner of Covington, Kevin Bumgardner of Toledo, Ohio, and Bryan Bumgardner of Dry Ridge; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wilmington Cemetery, Morning View.
Louis Joseph Darpel, 67, of Fort Wright, died at 9:57 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a disabled draftsman with AFCO Co. in Covington and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a son, Brad L. Darpel of Fort Wright; daughters, Carole Schumacher of Irvine, Calif., and Ronda Hendrix of Warsaw; brothers, Raymond Darpel of Crescent Springs, Walter Darpel of Covington, Joseph Darpel of Cold Spring and Robert Darpel of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Carole McCubbin of Warsaw and Mary Ann Fulmer of Latonia; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Cremation will be at Cincinnati Cremation Co. Memorials are suggested to Veterans Administration Medical Center, 3200 Vine St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.
Mary Rose Mannix Dorsel, 85, of Highland Heights, died Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Dorsel, and a son, David Dorsel, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Dianne Grace of Louisville and Indian Pass, Fla., Deidre Picard of Fort Mitchell, Daphne Lloyd of Branford, Fla., and Indian Pass; a son, William Dorsel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at noon Dec. 4 at St. Charles Care Center, followed by an Irish wake at a location to be determined. Mrs. Dorsel bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Loraine Frances Gregory, 87, of Covington, died at 11:17 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a seamstress with Rauh Shirt Co. in Cincinnati.
Survivors include sisters, Margaret Krebs of Covington and Mary Noonan of Williamsburg, Va.; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Mary Theresa Valley Kronewitz, 96, of Fort Thomas, died at 8:02 p.m. Monday at Carmel Manor nursing home in Fort Thomas.

Sister Lois Elaine Krouse, OSB, 78, of Villa Hills, died of cancer Sunday at St. Walburg Monastery Infirmary in Villa Hills. Sister Krouse entered the Benedictine community of St. Walburg Monastery in 1953, after serving in the Women's Army Corps during World War II and converting to Catholicism in 1945.
After becoming a nun, she taught in various schools staffed by the Benedictines, including Blessed Sacrament, Holy Cross, St. Benedict and St. Anthony schools locally. She also taught at Good Counsel School in Hazard and Sts. Peter and Paul School in Danville.
Sister Krouse was also a medical records librarian and spent many summers and weekends working in hospitals. Most recently, she worked in the business office of Villa Madonna Academy.
Survivors include a brother, Jack Krouse of Nashville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Walburg Monastery. A vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight at the monastery. Burial will be in the St. Walburg Monastery Cemetery. Isaiah Nicholas Leslie, 11 days, of Covington, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, John Thomas Leslie and Chippine J. Lafferty, both of Covington; grandparents, Rosemary Odell of Enterprise, Ala., Richard Lafferty of Salina, Kan., and Tom and Linda Leslie of Edgewood; and great-grandmother, Letha Fischer of Covington.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday Independence Cemetery. Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Dr. William P. Linss, 80, of Palm Harbor, Fla., formerly of Dayton, Ky., died Nov. 1 in Palm Harbor. He was a physician with a family practice in Newport, a former Newport City Health Officer and race boat enthusiast. He won national and world championships as owner and driver of the hydroplane Briar Hopper.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Patricia Linss; a daughter, Linda DeRossett of Safety Harbor, Fla.; and a son, Michael Linss of Newport.
No services are planned. Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Clearwater, Fla., is handling arrangements.
Ben Frank Mason, 76, of Independence, died at 5 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a retired employee of Triumph Manufacturing Co. in Cincinnati and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Mason; and a sister, Viola Cox of Florence.

Margaret McCracken, 93, of Peewee Valley, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Friendship Nursing Home, Peewee Valley. She was a homemaker and a volunteer at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. Her husband, Franklin McCracken, died in 1980.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth Cheatham of Prospect and Joyce Patrick of Frankfurt, Germany; sisters, Jo Deubell and Virginia Martin, both of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lucille B. Tucker, 66, of Independence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a dietitian with St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright, and a member of Banklick Church of God, Covington.
Survivors include daughters, Cecilia Barnes of Augusta, Lisa Oldham of Covington and Patty Worley of Louisville; sons, Tom Tucker of Latonia, Steven Tucker of Covington, and Orville Tucker, Larry Tucker and Danny Tucker, all of Independence; a brother, Gerald Morrison of Independence; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Beckham Turner, 80, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired maintenance worker with Equitable Bag Co. and a member of Church of God, Newport. His wife, Sally Turner, died in 1998.
Survivors include sons, Roscoe Turner and Charles Turner, both of Newport, and Gran Turner of Florence; daughters, Mattie Short and Minnie Spears, both of Newport, and Margaret McCullah of Elsmere; sisters, Clara Raleigh of Grants Lick and Minnie Hulse of Friend, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of God, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Mildred Iona Vogel, 87, of Erlanger, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was an accounting clerk for 17 years with the Cincinnati YMCA. Her husband, Everett Carl Vogel, died in 1959.
Survivors include a son, Donald Vogel of Union; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
