Sister Mary Rose Reckers, teacher
Sister Mary Rose Reckers was one of four siblings who became nuns and dedicated their lives to helping others.
Sister Mary Rose, 75, of Melbourne, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Home in Melbourne.
She was a member of the Sisters of Divine Providence for 56 years and was as an elementary school teacher in Kentucky and Ohio.
Sister Mary Rose was from Dayton and joined the convent in 1939. Three of her sisters also became nuns: Sister Mary Dolores Reckers, Sister Mary Pascal Reckers and Sister Dorothy Rose Reckers.
Sister Dorothy Rose Reckers is the only survivor of the group.
Sister Dorothy Rose said Friday that it is unusual for four siblings to become nuns. Their parents, Mary and Joseph Reckers, were proud of them.
"My mother was glad and my dad was happy," Sister Dorothy Rose said.
Sister Mary Rose Reckers also worked in pastoral care at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Covington and Edgewood.
"She was very sensitive, caring, loving and sympathetic," Sister Dorothy Rose said of her younger sister.
"She was a beautiful soul."
Other survivors include a brother, Joseph Reckers of Fort Thomas.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Convent Chapel, Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the convent chapel, with a wake service at 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. Anne Convent Cemetery, Melbourne. Memorials are suggested to Sisters of Divine Providence, c/o St. Anne Convent, Highway 8, Melbourne, Ky. 41059. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Melvin Cole, 77, of Fort Mitchell, died at 10:06 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a retired mechanic for the Kenton County Water District and Covington Water Works, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Latonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Harler Cole; stepsons, Charles Marriott of Maple Hill, N.C., and Kenneth Bryant and Tony Bryant, both of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Emily Mongenas of Cincinnati, Ruth Marriott of Covington and Freda Meiners of Terre Haute, Ind.; 19 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Charles First, 88, of Covington, died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
He has no surviving relatives.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Edith Gibson, 72, of Crittenden, died Friday at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home.
Robert G. Horn, 83, of Latonia, died at 11:25 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired machinist for William Powell Valve Co., Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Latonia, and Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Kemper Horn; daughters, Beverly J. Castellano of Chester, Ill., and Joyce A. West of Latonia; brothers, Edward Horn of Holyoke, Mass., and Frank Horn of Cincinnati; a sister, Agnes Stein of Cincinnati; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, with prayers at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Patricia Anne Sullivan Ledonne, 58, of Newport, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church, Newport, where she was a member of the Altar Society.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Ledonne; a daughter, Linda Hofstetter of Alexandria; sons, David Ledonne and Jim Ledonne, both of Alexandria, Raymond Ledonne of Independence and Jay Ledonne of Newport; a sister, Mary Lou Church of Fayetteville, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, with prayers at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Stephen cemetery Mausoleum, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Holy Spirit Parish, 825 Washington St., Newport, Ky. 41071.
Corrine Orsborne, 90, of Owenton, died Friday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton. She was a homemaker and a member of Owenton First Baptist Church. Her husband, Heber Orsborne, preceded her in death.
She has no surviving relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owenton IOOF Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Activities Fund of Owen County Memorial Hospital, 330 Roland Ave., Owenton, Ky. 40359.
Harriet Lorraine Townsley, 60, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a member of Faith Assembly of God, Covington.
Survivors include sons, Arnett Townsley of Bellevue, Clifford Townsley of Lake Wales, Fla., Jeff Townsley of Clarksville, Ga., and Jerry Townsley and David Townsley, both of Winter Haven, Fla.; a daughter, Laura Brush of Clarksville, Ga.; a brother, James Buntin of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, is handling arrangements.
Scott Ware, 86, of Maysville, died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday at Maysville Extended Care Facility. He was a retired linesman for Kentucky Utilities.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville; and Boy Scouts of America, where he was a former scoutmaster and former president of the Scioto Council.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Coughlin Ware; a son, Scott E. Ware of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, with prayers at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.
Cecil West, 76, of Williamstown, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown.

Jo Ellen Wheeler, 47, of Erlanger, died at 8:07 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a computer analyst for Levi Strauss Co., Florence.
Survivors include her husband, James M. Messer of Erlanger; a daughter, Deirdre Wheeler of Union; her parents, James and Janice Van Dubort of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister, Valerie Reed of Lebanon, Ohio; a brother, Victor Van Dubort of Leesburg, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Antioch Church of Christ, Wilmington, Ohio. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger. Burial will be in New Antioch Cemetery, Wilmington, Ohio.
