Marcella Hanenkamp Logsdon, Covington's 'Cookie Granny'
Marcella H. Hanenkamp Logsdon of Covington was known as "Cookie Granny," as she baked cookies for just about anyone who wanted them.
"If she made one tin of cookies, she made thousands of tins of cookies, or cobblers or cakes for somebody," said a granddaughter, Angie Ludwig of Fort Wright. "She even got permission at St. Charles to use their oven to bake for all the residents. She really was a great cookie maker and she enjoyed baking."
Mrs. Logsdon, 82, died at 12:45 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Ladies Society of Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington; Catholic Golden Age No. 64; Catholic Missions Guild; and Northern Kentucky Senior Center. Her husband, Carl M. Logsdon, died in 1984.
Mrs. Logsdon enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
She also loved sewing and embroidering. She often made baptismal garments for the Cathedral, stitching the names and birthdays of babies on the white garments.
"She was funny," Mrs. Ludwig said. "She liked to tell jokes, and she liked to tell stories. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren. She was very active in all our lives."
Other survivors include daughters, Marlene Unkraut of Fort Wright and Mary Margaret Bey of Covington; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Carlos Bowling, 69, of Latonia, died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. He was a retired welder with Ideal Truck Painting Co., Fort Wright, and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Bowling; sons, Lionel Nelson Bowling of Latonia, Gregory Bowling of Covington and James Carlos Bowling of Dillsboro, Ind.; daughters, Thelma Marlene Cooper of Demossville, Sherry Dillinger of Latonia and Karen Lynn Bowling of South Carolina; brothers, Charlie Bowling of Cincinnati and Clarence Bowling of Harrison, Ind.; sisters, Nora Herald of Harrison, Ohio, Gladys Herald Tamara Correll, both of Harrison, Ind., and Edna Peters of Patriot, Ind.; and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Anna Pauline Foster, 86, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Newport, died Monday at Plantation, Fla., General Hospital. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John William Foster; daughters, Sue Shop and Gayle Faulkner, both of Fort Lauderdale; sisters, Betty Taylor of Hamilton, Ohio, and Faye Cicero of Fort Lauderdale; a brother, John Shields of Fort Lauderdale; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene, 2300 S.W. 15th Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Burial will be in Lauderdale Memorial Park. Fairchild Funeral Home, Fort Lauderdale, is handling arrangements.
Helen Franklin Hamilton, 89, of Covington, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired employee of Mack's Shirt Factory. Her husband, John W. Hamilton, died in 1997.
Survivors include a son, David E. Hamilton of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.
Marguerite DeVere Hughes, 91, of Covington, died at 8:10 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She worked in the office of Dr. Jacob Moses, and was an accomplished pianist, singer and artist.
Survivors include cousins, Sister Nancy Hehman of Paintsville, Sue Fromeyer of Cold Spring and Nancy Graves of Highland Heights.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 tonight at St. Charles Chapel, Fort Wright. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
George "Eddie" Kuhn, 77, of Covington, died at 7:28 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired machine maintenance worker with Nutone, and a retired Navy veteran who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche H. Clinkinbeard Kuhn; a daughter, Shirley Kroger of Latonia; a brother, Andrew Kuhn of Boston; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
Mary Elizabeth Kyle, 89, of Worthville, died Monday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Worthville Baptist Church. Her husband, Ed Kyle, died in 1983.
Survivors include sisters, Rebecca Pelston of Worthville and Helen Frances Hewitt of Carrollton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wheatley Cemetery.
Virginia "Jean" Ann Langguth, 65, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at her home.

Ernestine Moore Mansfield, 88, of Fort Mitchell, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker, a former teacher and a member of Lakeside Christian Church, Lakeside Park.
Her first husband, Denny Moore, died in 1953. Her second husband, Robert Mansfield, died in 1983. A son, Jessel A. Moore, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a step-grand- child, Brian Wood of Lexington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Lakeside Christian Church, 195 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017.
William Moscoe, 91, formerly of Covington, died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Thomas J. Ripberger, 53, of Alexandria, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was an environmental control worker with Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Brock Ripberger; daughters, Jenny Ripberger and Chrissy Ripberger, both of Alexandria; and his mother, Mae Ripberger of Florence.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2, Florence, Ky. 41042. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Donald Lee Whitehead, 52, of Dayton, died at 4:55 a.m. Monday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. He was a maintenance worker with Cinergy and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. His wife, Judy Whitehead, died in 1997.
Survivors include stepsons, Staff Sgt. Gary Anderson of Germany, Allen Harrison of Dayton and Bobby Whitehead of Florida; brothers, Gerald Whitehead of Demossville, Sam Whitehead of Erlanger and Keith Whitehead of Crittenden; sisters, Sue Haas of Elsmere, Sharon Miskel of Corinth, Kathy Thomas of Taylor Mill, Betty Tiemeyer, Jo Ann Jackson and Vicki Schweitzer, all of Dayton; and eight grandchildren.
