Guy King, active in Baptist churches
Guy King always said he wanted a small funeral. But his wife, Betty, doesn't think he'll get it.
"He just touched so many lives," she said. "I don't even know how many phone calls I've gotten today."
Mr. King was a former minister of education for several local Baptist churches, including Fort Mitchell Baptist Church, Newport First Baptist Church and Visalia Baptist Church.
"They all just loved him," Mrs. King said.
Mr. King, who has had two quadruple bypass heart surgeries, spent his last days in the hospital, talking to other patients, his wife said.
"He touched so many lives in the hospital, I just couldn't get over it," she said. Mr. King kept telling his wife that he didn't think he had done enough for the Lord and that if ever got out of the hospital, he would do more for Him.
Mr. King, 69, of Villa Hills, died at 4:57 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
"He was just something special," Mrs. King said.
He was a former associate pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Independence and a former police chaplain with the Kenton County, Independence and Taylor Mill police forces. He was also a chaplain with St. Luke Hospitals in Florence and Fort Thomas.
Mr. King was a member of Erlanger Baptist Church and Northern Kentucky Baptist Association and was a past president of Campers on Mission.
He was an Army veteran. A son, Guy Paul King Jr., died in 1972.
Other survivors include a daughter, Caroline King of Bellingham, Wash.; sons, Forest King of Boston and James King of Denver, Colo.; stepsons, Donald Kenner of California, Michael Kenner of Florence and Timothy Kenner of Denver; stepdaughters, Angie Hampton of Independence and Pam Jackson of Florence; a sister, Zona King of Independence; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Erlanger Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Albert J. Anna, 89, of Boone County, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired heating and air conditioning salesman with Sears Roebuck and Co. His wife, Ethel Anna, and daughter, Katherine Anna, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral home, Erlanger.
Anna M. Bridges, 75, of Florence, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a former member of Bullittsville Christian Church and Erlanger Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Coleman of Florence; a son, James Drew Bridges of Walton; a sister, Mildred Marsh of Burlington; brothers, Melvin Anderson of Erlanger, Kenneth Anderson of Florence, Richard L. Anderson and Ronald Anderson, both of Burlington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. James W. Clark, 69, of Erlanger, died Saturday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a machine builder with Railway Express and a Korean War veteran.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Clark; a son, Charles Clark of Placentia, Calif.; a daughter, Dixie L. Clark; stepsons, Allen Buckamneer and Michael Buckamneer, both of Erlanger; a brother, Robert Clark of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Jean Wetzel of Covington; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Virginia L. Hoffman Gastauer, 85, of Newport, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Andrew Gastauer, died in 1978.
Survivors include daughters, Vickie Reckers of Villa Hills and Barbara Kilmer of Southgate; a son, James Gastauer of Alpharetta, Ga.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Virgil Howard Marlow, 53, of Alexandria, died Saturday in an auto accident on Pleasant Ridge Road in Alexandria. He was an lectronic maintenance engineer with General Electric Co., Cincinnati, and a former employee of Celotex Co. in Norwood, Ohio. He was a member of Robert Burns Masonic Lodge No. 163 F&AM, Newport, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Marlow; daughters, Donna Marlow Smith of California, Gina Marlow and Kathy Waag, both of Alexandria; his parents, Virgil and Margie Marlow of Cold Spring; brothers, Donald Marlow of Highland Heights, Jerry Marlow and Bob Marlow, both of Dayton, and Jeff Marlow of Cold Spring; sisters, Carol Gross of Burlington, Sue Carmack and Debbie Marlow, both of Dayton, Cheryl Wiseman of California and Pam Bolser of Fort Thomas; and three grandchildren.

Ruth Helena Rachford, 91, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cora Lee Dewitt of Union; a son, Dallas Rachford of Independence; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Alice Lee Cook Ready, 94, of Deland, Fla., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Friday at Memorial Hospital of West Volusia in Deland. She was a central file clerk with Fifth Third Bank of Cincinnati and a former member of First Baptist Church of Fort Thomas. Her husband, Guy Ready, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Dona L. Hurrelbrink of Deland and Sonja J. Wallin of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sons, Jeffrey Ready of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Jerry Ready of Astor, Fla.; a brother, Curtis Cook of Fort Thomas; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

Alva Mae Smith, 83, of Carrollton, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Carrollton First Baptist Church and Carroll County Senior Citizens. Her husband, Bryant "B. B." Smith, died in 1966.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Dunn of Louisville; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, and after 10 a.m. WednesdayD1 at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Lenora "Sue" Turner, 52, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a hairdresser with Devine Cuts and a member of Community Pentecostal Church of God, Kenton County.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Gulick of Newport; sisters, Angela Coomer and Jimmie Coomer, both of Somerset, and Monica Coomer of Dayton; and brothers, Elmer Coomer of LaGrange and Michael Coomer of Somerset.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community Pentecostal Church of God. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. John R. "Jack" Witt, 78, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Dayton, died Nov. 23 at Pacific Hospital, Long Beach, Calif. He was a retired security guard with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach and a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. Brothers Edward Witt and Robert Witt, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a sons, John Witt Jr., Joseph Witt and David Witt, all of the state of California; a daughter, Sherry Tatsch of the state of California; a brother, Walter Witt of Fort Wright; sisters, Mary McLaughlin of Fort Thomas and Rita Arlinghaus of Fort Mitchell; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial of cremains will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. McKenzie Cremation and Burial Services, Signal Hill, Calif., handled arrangements.
