Jean C. Rolfes, loved animals
Jean C. Rolfes had lifelong passions for religion and for the safety of animals.
Miss Rolfes donated money to Billy Graham's crusade and became a member of the Campbell County Humane Society.
"She loved religion, and she loved animals," said a niece and her namesake, Jean Rolfes of Cincinnati.
"If there was a fly in the house, she would let it out. She wouldn't kill it."
Miss Rolfes, 74, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
She was a designer with Gibson Greeting Cards and a member of First Baptist Church of Cold Spring and the Campbell County Humane Society.
Miss Rolfes was born in Newport and grew up in Park Hills. She was quiet and reserved but had a good sense of humor, her niece said.
Other survivors include a nephew, Dr. Donald Rolfes of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Caroline Marie Gates Ammann, 82, of Florence, died at 10 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a retired clerk with the Ohio Department of Social Services. Her first husband, George Gates, died in 1955. Her second husband, Joseph Ammann, died in 1961.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Wilson of Cold Spring, Katherine Lunne of Dayton, Ohio, and Patricia Webster of Edgewood; sons, George A. Gates of Greensboro, N.C., and Charles E. Gates of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Barbara Church, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 2655 Crescent Springs Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018; or to charity. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Michael V. Bierman, 49, of Burlington, died Sept. 3 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Bierman; a son, Jeff Bierman of Verona; a daughter, Jennifer Ponder of Gulfport, Miss.; his father, Gus Bierman of Alexandria; a sister, Bev Schappell of Loveland, Ohio; and two grandsons.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at First Church of Christ, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in at 10 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.
James "Bob" Curtis, 76, of Augusta, died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Delma Drohan, 91, of Erlanger, died Monday at her home.

Edna P. Fagin, 94, of Fort Thomas, died at 5 a.m. Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Weber of Fort Thomas; a sister, Francis Brewer of Milford, Ohio; a brother, Robert Wood of Cincinnati; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Church United Church of Christ. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Catherine Ruth Schunder Erion Gallagher, 75, of Fort Mitchell, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a retired railroad rate clerk with New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail and Consolidated Rail and Keystone terminals. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell and the Railroad Businesswomen's Association.
Survivors include her husband, Edward L. Gallagher; a son, Gerald D. Erion of Cincinnati; brothers, John H. Schunder and G. P. Schunder, both of Park Hills; and sisters, Joan Humphrey of Villa Hills and Florence Johannemann of Latonia.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will be private. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Charles Edward "Carl" Machlied, 80, of Villa Hills, died Saturday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. He was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include a daughter, Carole Holian of Crestview Hills; a son, Edward Machlied of Villa Hills; a sister, Evelyn Klotz of Union; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Co., Cincinnati.

John Edward O'Brien, 63, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a worker with the City of Crescent Springs.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Edward O'Brien Helton of LaGrange; stepsons, Denny Helton and Randy Helton, both of Covington, and Donald Helton of LaGrange; a stepdaughter, Virgie Livingood of Jonesville; and seven grandchildren.

Ruthie Jean McDonell Ringo, 84, of Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Thursday at Palm Beach Medical Center.

Earl L. Schmitt, 95, of Indianapolis, died Friday at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in Indianapolis. He was a retired purchasing agent with L.S. Ayres Co., a member of Brookside Masonic Lodge No. 720 and a volunteer driver with the American Red Cross. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include a nephew, Roger Schmitt.

Stanley W. Schooler, 57, of Newport, died Sunday at his home. He was a supervisor with Hagger Construction Co.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bennett Schooler; a son, Dennis Schooler of Newport; a daughter, She-Ra Schooler of Newport; brothers, Ivan Schooler, Robert Schooler and Orville Schooler, all of Williamstown; sisters, Sally Schooler and Brenda Schooler, both of Williamstown; and one grandson.
No services are planned. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
John P. Spicer Sr., 51, of Berea, died Sunday at his home. He was a warehouse manager with Tokico Inc. in Berea and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Lakes Spicer; sons, John Spicer Jr. and Billy Spicer, both of Berea, and Mark Spicer of Hebron; his father and stepmother, Porter and Gertie Spicer of Bellevue; and brothers, Jim Spicer of Dayton, Ohio, and Kenner Griffith of Newport.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Lakes Funeral Home, Berea. Burial will be in Berea Cemetery.
Timothy Fredrick Wilking, 8, of O'Fallon, Ill., died Saturday at Children's Hospital in St. Louis. He was a second-grader at Estelle Kampmeyer Elementary School in O'Fallon and was a member of the Little Devils Football Club, O'Fallon Boosters Baseball and Cub Scout Pack No. 35 in O'Fallon.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Todd F. and Leslie Wilking of Cold Spring; his mother, Michelle L. "Missy" Foley of O'Fallon; grandparents, Fred and Carol Wilking of Cincinnati, Floyd and Eunice Colburn of Cold Spring, Fred and Sharon Brown of Milford, Ohio, Arthur Foley of Caseyville, Ill., and Dianne Foley of O'Fallon; and great-grandparents, George and Norma Hattendorf of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday at St. Nicholas Church, O'Fallon. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The funeral procession will begin at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Kassly Mortuary, for the church. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, Ill. Local services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church, Southgate.
