Mary Collinsworth Foltz, teacher, Crittenden mayor, loving grandma
After Mary Collinsworth Foltz's children were in school, she went to back to college and earned a degree in education.
She taught for 10 years, mainly in the Covington school district before retiring in 1982.
"She was very proud of that accomplishment," said her daughter, Donna Humbert of Crittenden. "She loved working with younger children."
Mrs. Foltz, 80, of Crittenden, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She worked at Fourth District School in Cov ington and was a member of Crittenden Chris tian Church.
Mrs. Foltz was a former Crittenden mayor, a former city council member and a member of Crittenden City Board of Trustees. She served as grand marshal of the Crittenden Harvest Pa rade in 1995 and was a member of Kentucky Re tired Teachers Association.
Her husband, Maurice A. Foltz, died in 1987. A son, Dennis Wayne "D. A." Foltz, died in 1998.
Mrs. Foltz also enjoyed quilting and gardening. But most of all, Mrs. Foltz loved being with her grandchildren.
"Her grandchildren were her pride and joy," Mrs. Humbert said. "She kept up with them, attending their school and sporting events. She loved that. Her relationship with the grandchildren was very special."
Other survivors include her sons, Lawrence Foltz of Florence and Richard Foltz of Crittenden; a sister, Beulah Gifford of Crittenden; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Crittenden Christian Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Crittenden Christian Church, 106 N. Main St., Crittenden, Ky. 41030; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Margaret R. Bedel, 92, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, John Bedel of Langport, Md.; a daughter, Joan Lewis of Cincinnati; sisters, Alice Weber of Newport and Esther Weber of Ohio; brothers, Allen Weber of Newport and Carroll Weber of Highland Heights; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Mary Catherine Bittel, 76, of Ballston Lake, N.Y., formerly of Fort Mitchell and Covington, died at 3:50 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, N.Y. She was a retired teacher and a member of Corpus Christi Church, Clifton Park, N.Y.
Survivors include sons, John C. Bittel of Columbus, Ohio, James B. Bittel of Oxford, Ohio, Patrick J. Bittel of Watervliet, N.Y., and Daniel V. Bittel of Ballston Lake; daughters, Maureen R. Bittel and Jo Marie Livingston, both of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jennifer Bittel of Bakersfield, Calif., and Anitra Santoro of Ballston Lake; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., N.Y., N.Y., 10032. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Patricia F. Boothe, 66, of Brooksville, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospice, Lexington. She was a nurse with Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Fort Thomas, and a member of St. James Church in Brooksville and the Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Her husband, Judson Boothe Jr., died in 1968.
Survivors include daughters, Judith Boothe Padgett of Lawrenceville, N.J., Kathy Boothe Free of Brooksville and Patricia J. Boothe of Erlanger; sons, Thomas J. Boothe of Dover, Tenn., and James M. Boothe of Brooksville; sisters, Jane Ward of Cincinnati, Betty Hargett of Augusta and Margie Williams of Summerton, S.C.; a brother, Thomas Flannery of Naples, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Brooksville. Gratia Rose Bowman, 82, of Crestview Hills, died Thursday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a cafeteria worker with Kenton County Schools and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Jo Casnellie of Villa Hills and Tomma Sue Guastaferro of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Mary Jo Bruce and Ramona Robinson, both of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jean H. Bradley, 70, of Robertson County, died Thursday at his home. He was a manager with several companies, including Magnavox, Philco Ford, Zenith and Zenith Taiwan, a member of Mount Olivet First Christian Church and the Mount Olivet Lodge No. 291, a past district deputy grand master of Grand Lodge of Kentucky and a past patron of Mount Olivet Chapter No. 333 Order of the Eastern Star, and a Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Dallas Mastin Bradley; a son, Kevin J. Bradley of Maysville; a daughter, Colleen Breslin of Burlington; brothers, Charles E. Bradley and George Bradley, both of Mount Orab, Ohio, Dale Bradley of Morristown, Tenn., Buell Bradley of Cincinnati and Dr. Leo Bradley of Owensville; sisters, Opal Johnson of Georgetown, Ruby Minnick of Batavia, Ohio, and Angie Moon of Mount Orab; and a granddaughter.

Robert J. Carr, 71, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. His wife, Joan Schuh Carr, and a brother, Thomas Carr, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise Kraft of Burlington; sons, Todd Carr of Richwood, Rick Carr of Florence and Kevin Carr of Mason, Ohio; brothers, James Carr of Delhi, Ohio, and John Carr of Baltimore; a sister, Claire DiPilla of Western Hills, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Daniel William Goetz, 51, of Independence, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired supervisor with AT&T;, a member of St. Cecilia Church in Independence and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bernadine Tewes Goetz; sons, Matthew Damon Goetz of Edgewood and Douglas Brian Goetz of Independence; daughters, Lisa Colette Goetz of Lexington and Cynthia Lynn Moore of Taylor Mill; his mother, Bertha Rose Schierberg Goetz; sisters, Alice Schwartz of Gainesville, Fla., Mary Beth Reed of Louisville and Ellen Sue Dietz of Independence; a brother, Jack Goetz of Burlington; and one granddaughter.

Robert Carl Heckel, 75, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:35 a.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired owner of Best TV Repair Service in Fort Thomas and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. His first wife, Elizabeth Heckel, died in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Leah Mary Heckel; daughters, Patti Doller of Cold Spring, Jeane Wehrle of Alexandria, Rose Meyer of Fort Thomas and Nancy Heckel of Southgate; a son, Robert W. Heckel of Florence; and four grandchildren.

William F. Laney, 51, of Brooksville, died Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Laney; sons, Brian Laney of Verona and Damien Laney of Brooksville; daughters, Watseka Laney of Brooksville and Sherri Starcher of Pikeville; his father and stepmother, Jeff and Dee Carnes of Mount Olivet; a brother, Jim Carnes of South Carolina; sisters, Cathy Caudill of Mount Carmel, Ohio, and Debbie Brock of Batavia, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Virginia Matt, 78, of Newport, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Francis Altar Society. Her husband, John Matt, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Chrissy Hill of Norwood, Ohio, and Nancy Lyons of New Middletown, Ohio; sons, Jack Matt of Dayton, Michael Matt of Newport and Ron Matt of Highland Heights; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Vera Fryar Reed, 74, of Florence, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Bullittsville Christian Church. Her husband, Junior Burton Reed, died in 1982.

Betty Jean Snodgrass, 70, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was an employee of Bluegrass Army Depot in Lexington and a member of Falmouth Methodist Church. Her husband, Edwin E. "Jack" Snodgrass, died in 1986. A son, Gary Snodgrass, died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Debby Neikirk of Falmouth; sisters, Catherine Cory and Barbara Hogan, both of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren.
