Ralph Pfetzer, ran Covington deli
Ralph C. Pfetzer of Park Hills owned a grocery store in Covington for about 25 years before he managed apartment buildings in Park Hills.
"He was friendly and good-natured," said a son, Dennis R. Pfetzer of Park Hills. "He was fair with people. He ran a successful store and apartments after that."
Ralph Pfetzer died Friday morning at his home. He was 88 years old.
Mr. Pfetzer was born in Covington and had lived in Park Hills since 1946. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Stationed in Florida, he went to cooking and baking schools.
He remained a member of the American Legion Norman-Barnes Post 70 until his death.
Mr. Pfetzer operated Pfetzer's Delicatessen at 12th and Main streets in Covington until 1959. Then, he owned and operated several apartment buildings on Elberta Circle in Park Hills.
He and his wife, Dolores Dickman Pfetzer, enjoyed visiting a small farm their son, Dennis and his wife, Debbie, owned in Robertson County.
"They liked to go up there and get away and just relax," Dennis Pfetzer said.
His parents had been married
55 years when Mrs. Pfetzer died in 1995.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Covington. Entombment will be in the St. Mary Mausoleum in Fort Mitchell.

Donald G. Adams, 65, of Dry Ridge, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
Rose Mary Campbell, 68, of Maysville, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jessie Daniel Campbell, died in 1985. A son, Clarence Daniel Campbell, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Bill Campbell of Mays Lick and Jimmy Earl Campbell of Maysville; daughters, Frances Lynn Glenn of Mount Olivet and Jeanie Wallingford of West Union, Ohio; sisters, Martha Campbell and Frances Campbell, both of Maysville, Charlotte Holbrooke of Kingston, Ohio, Lula Campbell of Mays Lick and Carol Bowens of Chillicothe, Ohio; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 6 tonight. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.
Alejandro Manuel Celis III, son of Ronda Marie Peeno Celis and Alejandro "Alex" Luna Celis Jr. of Florence, died shortly after birth at 1:10 p.m. Friday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include a sister, Jodi Lee Alicia Celis, at home; grandparents, Marta Alicia Celis of Brawley, Calif., Sharon Lee Peeno of Carrollton and Ronald Jo Peeno of Niland, Calif.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Virginia B. Clark, 78, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:47 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with St. John Church, Covington, where she was active in the cafeteria and the church Girl Scout troop. Her husband, Robert F. Clark, died in 1975.
Survivors include daughters, Judith Ann Boese of Lakeside Park, Patricia Ann Clark of Taylor Mill, Joyce Ann Morris and Linda Lee Setters, both of Covington; a brother, Harold E. Ratliff of Shelbyville; sisters, Mattie Reed and Anna Mae Cooper, both of Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Helen L. Coleman, 69, of Erlanger, died Friday at her home. She was a former sales clerk with Van Luenens, Erlanger, and a member of Crescent Springs Baptist Church. She was a Girl Scout leader with Licking Valley Girl Scout Council in Erlanger. Her husband, Melvin D. Coleman, died in 1989.
Survivors include daughters, Bernice J. Moore of Depere, Wis., Carolyn S. Stewart and Linda L. Capps, both of Erlanger; brothers, Marion Cain of Huron, S.D., and Harold Cain of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Magaline West Collier, 76, of Fort Thomas, died at 8 a.m. Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert C. Collier, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Bob Collier, Gary Collier and Greg Collier, all of Fort Thomas; sisters, Irene Brown and Ruby Pompilio, both of Fort Thomas, and Eudena Wallace of Somerset; a brother, Darwin West of Somerset; and seven grandchildren.

Faye Collopy, 61, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:57 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Paul Kappas and a volunteer for Headstart in Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Joe E. Collopy; daughters, Debbie Mills of Pendleton County, Donna Gilchrist of Southgate and Barbara Johnson of Highland Heights; a son, Joe J. Collopy of Fort Thomas; sisters, Margie Vincent of Fort Worth, Texas, and Freda Abney of Independence; brothers, Vernon Watson of Highland Heights, and Carl Watson and Sterling Watson, both of Newport; and 15 grandchildren.

Omalie Cox, 48, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a machinist with Boston Gear, Florence.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Cox; sons, Gary Cox and Daniel Cox, both of Florence; a brother, Ralph Jones of Walton; sisters, Sharon Evans of Alexandria and Reda Powers of Union; and one grandson.

Mary Carolyn Frazier, 67, of Covington, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired auto tag renewal clerk with the Kenton County Clerk's office and a former administrative assistant with Pinkerton Security.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Frazier Jr. of Louisville.

Elizabeth G. Hanifin, 75, of Edgewood, died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Be Concerned and the election campaigns of Jim Bunning. Her husband, C. Steve Hanifin, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Jones of Florence and Martha Mann of Villa Hills; a son, William S. Hanifin of Cincinnati; a sister, Mary Eleanor Spencer of Lakeland, Fla.; two grandsons; and three step-grandchildren.

Anna Louise Loheide, 60, of Covington, died at 6:23 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired cafeteria worker with Covington Latin School and a member of St. Augustine Church in Covington.

Eugene W. Martin, 79, of Latonia, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. he was a retired supervisor with Kent Corp. in Latonia and a World War II veteran. His wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Stewart, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Tom Martin of Cincinnati and Tony Martin of Elsmere; daughters, Peggy Holliday of Independence and Pat Davies of Beatty, Nev.; two sisters; a brother; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Beth Popham, 19, of Aberdeen, Ohio, formerly of Maysville, died Saturday at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was a sophomore at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, where she was a member of the student programming board and the Apple Program and secretary of the residence life council. She also worked for the Union Township Public Library.
Survivors include her mother, Faye Mitchell Popham of Aberdeen; sisters, Christy Wallingford and Missy Malone, both of Ripley, Ohio; and grandparents, Sue Mitchell of Aberdeen and James Mitchell of West Union, Ohio.

Joseph R. Rich Sr., 89, of Louisville, formerly of Covington, died Sunday at St. Matthews Manor Nursing Home in Louisville. He was a retired security guard with General Electric and former owner of Rich's Restaurant in Covington. He was a member of Evanston Masonic Lodge in Norwood, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Forsyth Rich; a son, Joseph R. Rich Jr. of Louisville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

John Smith Jr., 73, of Latonia, died at 10:21 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired maintenance man with Washington Elementary School in Cincinnati and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ruth Broughton Smith, died in 1985.

Robert Kenneth Smith, 77, of Erlanger, died Friday at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a meat manager with A&P; Cincinnati, a member of Ralph Fulton VFW Post No. 6423 in Elsmere and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Belle Smith; a stepson, Ralph W. Underhill of Middletown, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Cassandra Moore of Hayesville, N.C.; a brother, Oscar Smith of Erlanger; a sister, Mabel Benson of Florence; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Juanita Weathers, 87, of Florence, died Friday at her residence. She was a cafeteria manager for Heritage Academy in Florence and a member of Heritage Assembly of God Church, Florence. Her husband, Rev. Hardie Gene Weathers, died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, GayNell Weathers Keith of Florence; a brother, Rev. Warren Litzman of Dallas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carl Lambert Winkler, 81, of Latonia, died at 8:25 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Peaselburg, a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia and an Army veteran of World War II.

Cassandra Work, 15 months, of Butler, died Friday at Marymount Medical Center in London. She suffered from a heart defect.
