Frank Twehues, Wilder councilman
Frank B. Twehues Jr. was a former councilman in Wilder who helped found his city's volunteer fire department.
Mr. Twehues was born in Newport but spent most of his life in neighboring Wilder, where he served on the city council and helped found the fire department in the 1950s.
A son, Jerry Twehues of Cold Spring, said his father led an active life with a full-time job, meetings as a council member and runs with the fire department.
"Dad was soft-spoken and never complained, no matter what the problem was," Jerry Twehues said.
Frank Twehues, 90, of Wilder, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday at the Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home.
He was a retired cabinet maker with Hess & Eisenhardt Motor Coach Co. and a trailer finisher with Trail Mobile Co., both in Cincinnati.
Mr. Twehues was a founder and secretary of the Wilder Volunteer Fire Department, a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Nocturnal Adoration and Holy Name societies at St. John Church in Wilder.
His wife, Catherine McGraw Twehues, died in 1994. A son, Larry Twehues, died in 1995.
Mr. Twehues also enjoyed gardening and small game hunting. He enjoyed taking his sons hunting, Jerry Twehues said.
He attributes part of his father's longevity to his involvement in the community.
"Dad was definitely community-oriented," Jerry Twehues said.
Other survivors include a daughter, Lois Wilson of Alexandria; sons, Leroy Twehues of Dearborn, Mich., and Richard Twehues of Fort Thomas; sisters, Claire Twehues and Mildren Cochran, both of Southgate; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, followed by prayers.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Floyd W. Adams, 83, of the Mason Community of Grant County, died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.
Arrangments are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Jeanne T. Frazer,86, of Falmouth, died Thursday at her home.
She was a self-employed beautician and a member of Falmouth Methodist Church, the Falmouth Women's Club, Falmouth Methodist Women and Eta Pi Kappa sorority.
Her husband, Carl M. Frazer, and a son, Carl M. Frazer Jr., both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Bertram of Lexington; two grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Judith A. Hagan, 62, of Latonia, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Hagan; sons, Robby Hagan of Latonia and Shawn Hagan of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Missie Hagan of Union; brothers, Gary Lower and Dean Lower, both of Union; sisters, Joyce Reinersman and Lynn Shafer, both of Covington, Joan Ashcraft of Piner, Jan DeFalaise of Taylor Mill, Pam Jennings of Erlanger, Bonnie Bailey of Latonia and Becca Lower of Fort Wright; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Linda Taylor Hurst, 50, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was an employee of Indy Honeycomb in Campbell County.
Survivors include her husband, Finley Hurst; sons, Terry Hurst, Darryl Hurst, Mark Hurst, Jessie Hurst and Finley Hurst Jr., all of Newport; daughters, Stella Hurst, Kathy Haes and Karen Ashbrook, all of Newport; her mother, Katherine Taylor of Newport; brothers, Eugene Taylor of Cold Spring, Mark Taylor of Dayton and Bob Taylor of Newport; sisters, Rose Proffitt, Connie Ferguson and Barbara Sullivan, all of Newport, Charlotte Orme of Crescent Springs and Brenda Whitaker of Glencoe; and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Bernard Lightner, 80, of Edgewood, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Herbert H. Moore, 71, of Bromley, died at 4:10 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
He was a retired plant manager with Schreiner Vault Co. in Bromley and a member of Highland Avenue Wesleyan Church, Covington.
His wife, Henrietta Moore, died Feb. 11.
Survivors include daughters, Corine Austin of Toledo, Ohio, Patricia Russell and Judy Allen, both of Bromley; sons, Robert Glacken and Larry Barber, both of Covington; brothers, George Moore of Mayport, Pa., and Robert Moore of Eubank; sisters, Thelma Herling, Mary Ogle, Helen Burns and Betty Jo Elliott, all of Louisville; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Robert Robertson, died in 1993.

Russell of Alexandria, Dan Russell of Cold Spring and Robert Russell of Fort Thomas; her father, Burnett Van Ness of Terre Haute, Ind.; a brother, Burnett Van Ness III of Terre Haute; and 11 grandchildren.

Howard John Sampson, 60, of Bulverde, Texas, died Monday at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
He was an employee of the Department of the Army at Camp Stanley in Boerne, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Sampson; sons, Sam Sampson of Covington and Pfc. William Sampson, U.S.M.C.; daughters, Kathy Brasher of Austin, Texas, and Beth Allbritton of Pike Road, Ala.; a sister, Patricia Droege of Longmont, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
