Sportsman Percy 'Red' Barrington
of Ludlow, shared love of outdoors
Percy T. "Red" Barrington Jr. of Ludlow was an outdoorsman.
Mr. Barrington, 67, not only enjoyed, hunting, fishing and bird-watching, but loved teaching others about them. He taught at colleges, extension services and parks. He shared his pictures of birds with elementary school children.
"He loved passing on the tradition," said his wife, Peggy Ann Barrington. "He always had time for everybody. He had lots of friends."
Mr. Barrington died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired customer-service worker with IBM and a member of St. Ann Church, West Covington.
Mr. Barrington was a conservation educator who was a past president of the Kenton Game & Fish Association and the Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers. He was a member of the Kentucky League of Sportsmen, National Federation of Fly Fishermen and the Northern Kentucky Bird Club.
Mr. Barrington spent many hours outdoors.
"It kind of gets you closer to God," Mrs. Barrington said. "Every time we went fishing, we saw something new and different."
Mrs. Barrington said her husband was a generous man.
"He would do anything for anybody," she said. "He was a very wonderful person. He was just a very good person and he will be missed."
Other survivors include his daughter, Theresa Emery of Ludlow; his mother, Mary Barrington of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Mary C. Barrington of Fort Mitchell and Paula Sue Marksberry of Williamstown; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.
Peter Auteri, 81, of Bellevue, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a meat cutter with Kroger and Geiger Meats.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Auteri; sons, Michael Auteri, Robert Auteri and Ronald Auteri, all of Bellevue; daughters, Patricia Auteri of Glasgow and Linda Gauspohl of Crestview Hills; sisters, Angie Buemi of Cold Spring and Mary Mattingly of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Naomi Boehmer, 64, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a member of St. John Church, Bellevue.
Survivors include a brother, Donald Boehmer of Alexandria; and two nieces.
No services are planned. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.
Vivian Brock, 72, of Owenton, died Wednesday at Owen County Memorial Hospital. She was a nurse's aide with Three Rivers Home Health Care in Owenton and a member of Lighthouse Church, Owenton. Her husband, Albert Brock, and a son, Terry Coggeshall, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include brothers, Sandy Miller of Palm Bay, Fla., and Bradford Callabs of Barbourville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, Ky. 40601-2744.
Earl Brooks, 86, of Highland Heights, died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired truck driver with Fleice & Son Wholesale Produce Co. and Glier's Meats, and a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, Covington. His wife, Ella Mae Lemox Brooks, died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Dale Brooks of Sacramento, Calif.; daughters, Norma Warning of Covington and Della Baker of Villa Hills; a brother, David Brooks of Louisville; and six grandchildren.

Jeffrey Alan Brophy, 34, of Independence, died Monday at Ashley Quarters, Florence. He was a production manager with Mubea, Florence.
Survivors include his wife, Kerry Ryan Brophy; a son, Jeffrey Brady Brophy, at home; daughters, Kaitlyn Brophy and Maddison Brophy, both at home; his parents, Jerry and Del Brophy of Edgewood; a brother, J. Paul Brophy of Edgewood; sisters, Victoria Wilkerson of Edgewood, Kathy Frank of Burlington and Kimberly Auberger of Florence; and his grandfather, Leo J. Brophy Jr. of Fort Wright.

Marilyn A. Hamilton, 64, of Lawton, Okla., formerly of Covington, died Monday in Lawton. She was a housing specialist with the City of Lawton, and was a member of First Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Lawton. Her husband, Walter L. Hamilton, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela K. Wadlow and Paula J. Keefe, both of Muskogee, Okla., Toni Lynn Hutchinson of Lawton; sisters, Karen Schadler of Florence, Norma Beckett and Diane Fieler, both of Cincinnati, and Rita Lauckhuff of Covington; brothers, Richard Unkraut of Fort Wright, Robert Unkraut of Edgewood, Ronald Unkraut and Donald Unkraut, both of Elsmere, Thomas Unkraut, Kenneth Unkraut and Dale Unkraut, all of Florence, Jack Unkraut and Dennis Unkraut, both of Covington; and seven grandchildren.

Gene Winston Hughes Sr., 57, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Union, died Saturday at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. He was a retired engineer of Cincinnati Bell and was a volunteer who helped with handicapped children in Erlanger and coached Erlanger-Elsmere Knothole Baseball teams. He was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hughes; daughters, Angela Marshall and Ingrid Hughes, both of Erlanger, Jenny Hughes of Bradenton; sons, Gene Hughes Jr. of Fort Mitchell and Jon Hughes of Mason, Ohio; a sister, Betty Vining of Burlington; a brother, Bob Hughes of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Erlanger Baptist Church. James Huth, 78, of Cincinnati, died Monday in Cincinnati. He was a retired accountant with Edward J. Koeal accounting firm in Cincinnati and a charter member of the Delhi Swim Club in Cincinnati. He was a World War II Navy pilot. A son, Jimmy Huth, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Janke Huth; a daughter, Barbara Sohnlein of Edgewood; sons, Jerry Huth, Chris Huth and Tracy Huth, all of Cincinnati, Roger Huth of Columbus, Ohio, and Tim Huth of Ormon Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Beatrice Simms Marshall, 76, of Ludlow, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Raymond Marshall, died in 1973.
Survivors include daughters, Joan Baker of Ludlow, Yvonne Mahan and Gail Scales, both of Covington; a son, Ralph Marshall of Villa Hills; a sister, Lorene Greer of Elsmere; a brother, Delbert Simms of Danville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ralph McKenzie, 67, of Walton, died at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a crane operator with Newport Steel and a member of Covington Moose Lodge, the Steel Workers Union and National Rifle Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Anderson of Cincinnati; a son, Wayne McKenzie of Morning View; brothers, Jack McKenzie of Owenton, Danny McKenzie of Sanders and June McKenzie of Covington; sisters, Juanita Kinman of Covington and Joyce Ann Williams of Paris; four grandchildren.

Dorothy L. Moore, 75, of Burlington, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired registered nurse with Booth Memorial Hospital in Covington and a member of Disciples of Christ Church, Boone County. Her husband, Donald R. Moore, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Alexander of Jeffersonville, Ga.; sons, Tim Moore of Independence and Kurt Moore of Burlington; a sister, Ann Schafer of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Marion Stokes Jr. of Madisonville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Francis S. Reenan, 77, of Melbourne, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired 22-year veteran of the Army, and a retired employee of Central Trust Bank in Cincinnati. He was a past president of the Holy Name Society of St. Benedict Church in Covington and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 301, Bishop Molloy Flaget Assembly. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Norma L. Reenan; sons, Victor K. Reenan of Ludlow; daughters, Alona Patrick of Covington and Francine Metzger of Delhi, Ohio; a sister, Catherine Croness of Fort Mitchell; a brother, William of Covington; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Anna Runion, 92, of Independence, died Wednesday at Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Pentecostal Church of God, Independence. She was a charter member of the Cleveland, Tenn., Church of God. Her husband, Hobert Runion, died in 1991.
Survivors include daughters, Lois Allen of Erlanger and Betty Mendel of Lexington; sons, Douglas Runion of Florence, L.T. Runion of Union, Roger Runion of Seattle and Hobert Runion Jr. of Alma, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Burnette "Barney" Shoemaker, 63, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a machinist with Lodge & Shipley Co. in Sidney, Ohio.

William G. Wynn, 78, of London, died Tuesday at Marymount Medical Center, London. He was a track foreman with L&N; Railroad, a member of Hart Baptist Church in London, and an Army veteran.
