Gerald Scott, devoted to family
Gerald R. Scott was an award-winning foundryman and a Navy veteran.
But his eldest daughter, Connie R. Scott of Edisto Island, S.C., said she remembers her father more for his wisdom and kindness than any award he brought home from work.
"When I think of my dad, I think of his total devotion to his family," Miss Scott said. "My dad was always there for everybody, for his kids and his grandkids and everyone else."
Mr. Scott, 66, of Cold Spring, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
He was a metallurgy engineer and a Navy veteran. He also was a deacon with Christ Church United Church of Christ in Fort Thomas and a member of the Garden City, S.C., Moose Lodge. He was a past chairman of the Southwest Ohio Foundrymen Society, which named him Foundryman of the Year in 1983.
Miss Scott said her father encouraged her to become a registered nurse for a community mental health center in South Carolina.
"He would bring me groceries and diapers when I was going through a rough period," Miss Scott said. "He made it possible for me to become a nurse through his encouragement."
Last winter, Mr. Scott drove to Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond to fix his grandson's car.
"He didn't want him to be without a car," Miss Scott said. "My dad always put everyone else first. He always had advice and an ear to listen. He was always ready to help."
