Villa Hills' Theresa Boswell, bluegrass musician, painter
Bluegrass music was Theresa Yvonne Boswell's love. It took her across the country and to Europe.
In more recent times she battled cancer, losing an eye in the process, but she continued to play her music locally at festivals, at clubs and in nursing homes.
Although her full name was Theresa Yvonne Boswell, to her fans and friends she was simply Terry. Friday, Mrs. Boswell, 46, lost her battle with cancer. She died at her home in Villa Hills.
"They first discovered cancer in her about 10 years ago, but she was very upbeat about things and seemed to be doing fine," said Jeffrey Boswell, her husband.
"But she became sick again, and during the past seven or eight months she had been real sick."
Mrs. Boswell was born in North Carolina, while her father was in the military, but she spent most of her youth in Louisville. "I'm not really sure how she got interested in bluegrass music, but she started performing about 20 years ago," Mr. Boswell said.
Mrs. Boswell sang and played guitar.
Her career included about 10 years playing with the Wildwood Girls at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. She toured with other bluegrass musicians across the country and performed at American military bases in Europe.
She later played with a group called Kentucky 31 and performed for a time with her husband under the name the Boswells.
It was through music that the Boswells first met, in the Columbus, Ohio, area. They were married
in 1988.
They moved to the Cincinnati area after Mr. Boswell got a job with Keane Consulting Co. and the family bought a house in Villa Hills about a year ago.
In more recent years, Mrs. Boswell played on a regular basis at local nursing homes, clubs such as Arnold's in Cincinnati and at festivals such as the Appalachian Festival.
While music was her passion, she also liked to draw and paint, her husband said.
Other survivors include a son, Andrew Byrne of Villa Hills; her parents, James and Evia Morrison of Tunica, Miss.; and a brother, Tim Morrison of Manchester, Tenn.
