Hebron's Milton Rodamer, Pearl Harbor vet
Milton Eugene Rodamer was a Navy sailor, stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The Japanese attack on that infamous date would affect the remainder of his life.
Mr. Rodamer, 82, of Hebron, died Friday at his home.
According to Mr. Rodamer's brother, Milton was a young sailor who had joined the Navy in the 1930s, and was a crewman aboard a repair ship at Pearl Harbor.
"He wasn't wounded, but it was a nightmare for him. He knew the Battleship Arizona was sunk," said Lawrence Rodamer.
Milton Rodamer was in several veterans hospitals in the months following the Pearl Harbor attack, suffering from what was once known as shell shock, his brother said. It left him disabled for the rest of his life, Lawrence Rodamer said.
"He never talked about it much, but I knew he thought about it," said Lawrence Rodamer.
A native of Boone County, Milton Rodamer liked to swim as a boy, his brother said. "He would swim the Ohio River, and that was a pretty big accomplishment," he said.
