Earl Charles Uhl, veteran and giving man
Earl Charles Uhl of Erlanger was always giving.
During Thanksgiving, he would buy turkeys and give them to people in need. During the winter, he made sure children had coats and shoes. He also baked pies and cakes for churches.
"He would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it," said his son Earl Uhl Jr. of Elsmere. "He was generous, always helping other people. He grew up kind of poor and he didn't want to see any others go through what he did."
Mr. Uhl, 67, died Monday at his residence. He was a retired pipe fitter for Ford Motor Co., Sharonville, Ohio, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Earl Charles Uhl was past commander of American Legion Post No. 11, Newport and a member of the VFW.
He also was a volunteer on the Erlanger Rescue Squad, where he was recently made an honorary life member.
Other survivors include his wife, Rose Uhl; stepsons, George Piccirillo and James Piccirillo, both of Newport, and Thomas Piccirillo of Covington; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Piccirillo of Newport; his mother, Mildred Uhl of Cincinnati; a sister, Irene Stedding of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Agnes Dorsey, 95, died at 5:21 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence.
Edith Gastauer, 76, of Williamstown, died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday at her residence.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Richard Leroy Hill, 58, of Falmouth, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Beatrice Souder Jones, 85, of Owenton, died Tuesday at Owen County Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Orville W. Jones, preceded her in death.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Owenton IOOF Cemetery. McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton, is handling arrangements.
Jacqueline Phillips, 65, of Newport, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was retired from Walgreens. A daughter, Roberta Sue Larkin, died in 1971.
Survivors include her husband, Robert G. Phillips; sons, David Rudd of Taylor Mill, Ronald Larkin of Covington and Robert Phillips of Latonia; daughters, Judith Ann Kidwell of Latonia, Betty Jo Sturgeon of Taylor Mill, Debra Kay Johnson of Edgewood, Jacqueline Caprice Smith of Highland Heights, Mary Margaret Wilson of Independence and Jennifer Lee Guisinger of Covington; brothers, Robert Burgraph of Hamilton, Ohio, Darrell Burgraph of Crittenden and Jim Burgraph of the state of California; a sister, Betty Remley of Crescent Springs; 32 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 745 W. Main St., Louisville, Ky. 40202.
Earl Eugene Redwine, 70, of Paris, died Monday at Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris. He was a retired principal of Paris High School, where he coached the boys' basketball team, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Paris, where he was a deacon, and Board of Directors of Paris-Bourbon County Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Hatfield Redwine; a son, Charles E. "Chuck" Redwine of Paris; daughters, Jennie Redwine of Richmond and Robin Lynn Redwine of Paris; a brother, Charles Lewis Redwine of Covington; and a sister, Polly Flynn of Covington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Paris. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the church. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery. Dorothy Louise Price Woodward, 80, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Sept. 4 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital, Knoxville. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Marcue Eugene Woodward, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Watt of Farragut, Tenn., and Susan Knight of Carrollton, Va.; sons, Marcus Bradley Woodward of Knoxville, Tenn., and David W. Woodward of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Pearl Silcox of Erlanger; a brother, Clarence Price of Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Sept. 9 at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Knoxville. Memorials are suggested to Sertoma Learning Center, 1400 E. Fifth Ave., Knoxville, Tenn., 37917. Rose Mortuary, Mann Heritage Chapel, Knoxville, handled arrangements.
