William Arthur Eger Sr., civic leader
William Arthur Eger Sr., formerly of Florence, was a businessman, civic leader and World War II veteran.
But he had another priority: "His family," said a son, Todd Eger of Fort Thomas.
The elder Eger had 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
"I think kids made him tick," said Todd Eger's wife, Marina Eger. "He was always interested in what was going on with the kids."
William Eger Sr. died Sunday at the home of another son, William A. Eger Jr., in Valdosta, Ga. He was 78 years old.
Mr. Eger was a native of Newport.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific.
Mr. Eger worked for various heating and air-conditioning businesses before founding Eger Supply Co. in 1976.
The wholesale supply firm was in Elsmere.
Mr. Eger had an impressive record of civic service.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Association of Northern Kentucky, a Mason and a Shriner.
He also was a past member of the Board of Deacons of Heritage Fellowship, the Northern Kentucky Chapter of Easter Seals, Lung Diseases Association and Ducks Unlimited.
Mr. Eger formerly served as a coach for youth baseball, basketball and football teams.
Mr. Eger was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He retired as owner and operator of Eger Supply Co. in 1993, when he was paralyzed in a hunting accident.
Said Marina Eger: "He always accepted his fate with dignity. He never let that accident get him down.
"He was just a good guy."
Other survivors include his wife, Anna Malone Eger of Covington; sons, Thomas Eger of Florence and Jeffery A. Eger of Covington; a daughter, JoAnna Eger Bennett of Covington and sisters, Marie Eger Watkins of Camden, Ohio, and Shirley Eger Bosse of Cincinnati. A daughter, Caroline Marie Eger, died in 1955.
Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fellowship of Believers in Florence.

John F. Alley Sr., 76, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Highland Heights, died Friday at Bon Secours Venice Hospital. He was a retired steam fitter for the U.S. Government and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Alley; sons, John Alley Jr. of Cold Spring and Darren Alley of Alexandria; daughters, Donna Bridewell of Cold Spring and Susan Dowd of Cincinnati; sisters, Virginia Doyle of Atlanta and Charleen Beier of Cincinnati; brothers, Raleigh Alley of Merritt Island, Fla., Richard Alley of Morrow, Ohio, and James Alley of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Ray Lorenza Florence, 91, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Lowe Florence; and a sister, Myrtle Arthur of Cynthiana.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Bertha Herrington Ham, 103, of Florence, died Monday at Woodspoint Care Center in Florence. She was a retired cook. Her sons, Raymond Ham and Ray Franklin Ham, and a daughter, Margaret Hinchman, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include grandchildren, Geraldine Ham and Sammy Jo Rose, both of Carlisle, Cora Coffey, Bertha Wagoner and Ray Ham Jr., all of Millersburg, and Carol Jo Collins of Covington; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Pruitt Funeral Home, Millersburg. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Millersburg Cemetery. Lusk- McFarland Funeral Home, Paris, is handling arrangements.
William Browning Kenton, 88, of Arizona, formerly of Robertson County, died Sunday at Sincere Care Home in Phoenix. He was a musician and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Eilers Kenton; a stepson, Roy Lickliker; and a stepdaughter, Nan Kenton.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday at Fosters Chapel Cemetery. Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet, handled arrangements.
Louis "Bud" Krebs, 88, of Covington, died at 3:35 a.m. Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. He was a retired machinist for Cincinnati Milacron and a member of St. Augustine Church, Covington, where he was a member of the Pathfinders Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Barbara Krebs; sons, Jack Krebs of Covington and Bill Krebs of Burlington; a daughter, Margie Richardson of Covington; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Sarah C. Kupferle, 95, of Florence, died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Woodspoint Care Center in Florence. She was a retired tax technician for IRS in Cincinnati and a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church and Covington Art Club. Her husband, Arthur T. Kupferle Sr., died in 1946.
Survivors include a son, Arthur Trommer Kupferle Jr. of Cincinnati; a daughter, Mary E. Kupferle Heineke of Cincinnati; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Gertrude McClurg, 80, of Demossville, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown.

Franklin Delano Metcalf, 66, of Independence, died Sept. 14 at his residence. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Eleanor Rose Kupfer Metcalf, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Gladys P. Metcalf and Samantha R. Metcalf, both of Independence; and three grandchildren.
No services are planned. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Geneva Ridings Moore, 73, of Berry, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George E. Moore, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Harold Moore of Harrison County, Bruce Moore, Jack Douglas Moore and Roger Moore, all of Lafayette, Ind., and Mike Moore of Florida; daughters, Barbara Aubrey of Harrison County and Joyce Smith of Lafayette, Ind.; brothers, Sherman Ridings of Spartanburg, S.C., Ivann Ridings of Sequin, Texas, and Marvin Ridings of the state of California; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John J. "Jake" O'Malley, 66, formerly of Cincinnati, died Sunday at Highland of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was a retired salesman for Seagrave Co. and a former volunteer for Fort Mitchell Fire Department.
Survivors include a daughter, Kellie Moore of Florence; a sister, Maureen O'Malley of Crestview Hills; and two grandchildren.

Tim P. Phillips, 49, of Edgewood, died Saturday at his residence. He was a computer programmer and a Marine Corps veteran.

Florence Pike, 94, of Erlanger, died at 10:20 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church, Campbellsville. Her husband, Chilton Pike, died in 1983. Two daughters, Evelyn Biggs and Wilma Cooper, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Rev. Harold Pike of Covington and Rev. Earl Pike of Bloomfield; a sister, Leora Burress of Tuscola, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Crystal Lynn Setser, 12, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas of injuries suffered in an auto accident along Wolf Road near the Licking River in Campbell County. She was a seventh-grader at Holmes Junior High School and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Covington.
