Mildred Kiser Everman, teacher
Mildred Kiser Everman had a passion for learning that was exceeded only by her passion for teaching.
Mrs. Everman, a teacher for 26 years at Newport Elementary School and the Northern Kentucky Vocational School, continued her college education after earning her teaching certificate.
In fact, Mrs. Everman earned a degree from Morehead State University the same year that her daughter, Betty Everman of Fort Mitchell, earned her degree there.
"She graduated in the spring, and I graduated in the summer," Miss Everman said.
Mrs. Everman, 89, of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at her residence.
She grew up in Carter County, where her father was a preacher, and decided early in life that she wanted to become a teacher.
Mrs. Everman enjoyed gardening and being with her family and friends. She also enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia.
"I think she loved people. She loved to do things for them," Miss Everman said.
"Mother was an outgoing person. She was an entertainer who loved to have people over."
Mrs. Everman's husband, Clyde Everman, died in 1996.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Everman is also survived by a son, Robert Everman of Fort Mitchell; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Mamie Cornett, 66, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a retired inspector for Equitable Bag and a member of Taylor Mill Church of Christ. A son, Randy Anderson, died in 1977, and a daughter, Connie Sparks, died in 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Sanda Barnhill of Crittenden, Sue Biers of Crescent Springs and Joyce Oney of Richwood; and sons, Jerry Anderson and Jim Anderson, both of Morning View.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Margie Jean Coyle, 74, of Erlanger, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a retired billing supervisor for Northern Kentucky Water Service District and a member of Crescent Springs Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer "Pete" Coyle; daughters, Connie Burger and Missy Alvey, both of Erlanger, and Barbara Solomon of Hebron; a son, Ronald Coyle of Edgewood; sisters, Betty Matchett of Fort Mitchell and Bertie Mae Stegman of Finneytown, Ohio; a brother, Thomas Cuthbert of Villa Hills; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to charity of donor's choice.
Robert E. Craig, 46, of Union, died Wednesday at Jewish Hospital in Kenwood, Ohio. He was a boiler inspector for Cincinnati Insurance Co., a military veteran, and member of Big Bone Baptist Church, Union.
Survivors include his wife, Laura L. Muller Craig; a daughter, Danielle Craig of Union; a stepdaughter, Amy Streit of Anderson, Ind.; his mother and stepfather, Barbara Ellen and Bill Williams of Daleville, Ind.; a brother, Kenny Craig of Markle, Ind.; half-brothers, David Bray, Kevin Williams and Jerry Williams, all of Anderson, Ind., and Johnny Williams of Huntsville, Ind.; a half-sister, Judy Payne of Indianapolis; and three step grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Big Bone Baptist Church, Union. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Big Bone Baptist Cemetery, Union.

Patrick J. Gerrety, 61, of Ludlow, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at his residence. He was a retired warehouse manager for St. Vincent DePaul Society, Erlanger, and an Army veteran. He was a member of Mother of God Church, Covington, and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Survivors include his mother, Corinne Gerrety of Ludlow; and brothers, Rev. James Gerrety and Thomas Gerrety, both of Ludlow.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. James Luther Holman Sr., 73, of Owenton, died Tuesday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton. He was a carpenter, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie June McNeilan Holman; sons, James Holman Jr. of Dry Ridge and David Lawrence Holman of Owen County; daughters, Rosemary Casey and Kathy Christopher, both of Georgetown, and Betty Jo Holman of Owenton; brothers, Orvil Holman of Lexington, William Holman of Owen County and Donald Holman of Mercer County; sisters, Gladys McKay and Katherine Hugg, both of Ohio, and Nancy Holman of Lexington; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street location, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Elsie Garrison Jack, 83, of Richwood, died Tuesday at her residence.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Scott Jack, died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Jack Barrier; and a granddaughter.

Clara V. Jackson, 73, of Covington, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at her residence. She was a homemaker and attended Kento-Boo Baptist Church, Florence. Her husband, Wilford Jackson, died in 1991.
Survivors include sons, Fred Irwin of Erlanger and Ray Irwin Jr. of Bromley; daughters, Cora L. Whaley, Freida Gabbard and Beatrice Hamlin, all of Covington; a sister, Mary Lou Blaaker of Covington; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lester Kemplin, 71, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at his residence. He was the owner of Mohawk-Delhi Paint Co., Delhi, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kemplin; daughters, Lynn Scott and Nancy Sullivan, both of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Cindy Speers of Naples, Fla., and Mary Ellen Turner of Grants Lick; stepsons, Jeffrey Dye of Alexandria and Carl Dye of Ledyard, Conn.; his mother, Helen Kemplin of Tollesboro; sisters, Carol McNutt of Tollesboro and Dolores Wilson of Cincinnati; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Everett "Link" Leeke, 64, of Independence, died Tuesday at his residence. He was a retired mechanic for Reeves Marathon Station, Fort Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette Leeke; sons, Jerry Leeke of Independence, Michael Leeke of Florence, Edward Leeke of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Al Leeke of Union; daughters, Deborah Donnermeyer of Union, Paggy Lockaby of Somerset, Lori Sturgeon of Independence and Penni Jo Taylor of Taylor Mill; stepsons, Ernie Wieland of Durham, N.C., John Hope of Loxahatchee, Fla., Chris Hope of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and William Hope of Pompano Beach, Fla.; stepdaughters, Debbie Bullock of Cincinnati, Donna Bryant of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Pam Yow of Durham, N.C.; brothers, Leslie Leeke of Walton and Jack Leeke of Latonia; a sister, Geraldine Harshbarger of Independence; 36 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edith McGill Richardson, 78, of Wilmore, formerly of Butler, died Wednesday in Wilmore. She served as an Army nurse during World War II.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Richardson; a son, Charles Patrick Richardson; a daughter, Lois Richardson; a son, David Alan Richardson; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Butler.
Joseph M. Semsey, 81, of Fort Thomas, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Highland of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was a retired press operator for American Pulley and Philmont Press Steel, Philadelphia, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Snyder Semsey of Philadelphia; daughters, Gloria Sheldon of Pittsburgh and Joanne Brambley of Edgewood; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday in Philadelphia. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling local arrangements.
Ruth Banister Sheriff, 90, formerly of Fort Thomas, died at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday at Manor Care in Boca Raton, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Sheriff; a daughter, Nancy Scott Scales of Mount Airy, N.C.; a son, David Ross Scott of Petaluma, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sally Sweigert of Delray Beach, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arnold Spicer, 71, of Berry, died at 5:30 a.m. today at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana.

John Clayton Thatcher, 84, of Hohenwald, Tenn., formerly of Alexandria, died Tuesday at Lewis Ambulatory Care Center in Hohenwald.
He was a retired teacher for Dale Elementary School, Highland Heights, and Oakland Park Elementary School, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lucinda Thatcher; a son, Rev. John C. Thatcher III of Mason, Ohio; a sister, Margaret Carnes of Slade; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Hazel Baker Wylie, 72, of Florence, died Wednesday at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was a homemaker.
Her first husband, Victor O. Baker, died in 1976. Her second husband, Louis Wylie, died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Jack Baker of Florence; a daughter, Brenda Freking of Petersburg; a brother, Doyle Brashear of Florence; sisters, Evelyn Smiley and Frances Stites, both of Florence; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
