Edward 'Irv' Ziegler, tool and die maker, N. Ky. Sports Hall of Fame
Edward "Irv" Irwin Ziegler of Bellevue jammed his 96 years full of life.
He played baseball for the minor leagues, founded a conservation club, wrote poetry and was a camera buff who developed his own pictures.
"He loved to do everything," said a daughter, Alice Heath of Bellevue.
Mr. Ziegler died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
The retired tool and die maker worked 57 years for the Wadsworth Watch Case Co. in Dayton. He made tiny parts for a variety of uses, including the hood ornaments and horn but tons for Pontiac that featured the company's Indian head logo. He also made secret parts for weapons during World War II, said his daughter.
A short stint in his youth as a baseball player in the minor leagues won Mr. Ziegler a place in the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.
He was a founding member of the Bob White Club, a conservation club founded in 1938 that sponsors trap shoots and has fishing lakes at its camp in Claryville. He remained in charge of the grill tent for festivals at the club's camp through his late 80s.
Mr. Ziegler also founded the Bluegrass Camera Club in the 1940s.
He was a member and past grand master of the Masonic Lodge No. 916 in Silver Grove and a member of the Junior Order of the Garfield Council of Bellevue.
