Patrick Richard Jobe, 14, played sports and trombone
Patrick Richard Jobe was a happy youngster whose energy and enthusiasm seemed endless.
Patrick, 14, of Ludlow, played youth football and baseball. He played trombone for the Ludlow High School concert band. He loved wrestling and singing. There seemed to be nothing that he couldn't do.
But Patrick's world began to change when at age 10 he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. The whirlwind who could eat just about anything suddenly had to learn to control his diet.
Still, Patrick kept his sense of humor and enjoyed playing games with his friends, his parents said. "He had a big heart. He cared for everybody," said Patrick's mother, Barbara Jean Beckner Jobe of Ludlow. "He would put his needs aside for his friends and whatever they needed. He was so giving."
Patrick Jobe died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was a freshman at Ludlow High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Ludlow. He was a member of the Ludlow High School concert band and was a former member of the Ludlow Youth football and baseball teams and the Dixie Raiders football team.
Patrick's father, Gary Lee Jobe of Ludlow, said his son played offensive tackle and defensive nose guard in football.
Mr. Jobe said his son was very outspoken and was never afraid to speak up.
Richard is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Jean Jobe and Leah Marie Jobe, both of Ludlow; and grandparents, Richard Adams of Dayton, and Martha and Grady P. Jobe Sr. of Dayton.
