Mary Carroll, dedicated volunteer
Mary K. Lenihan Carroll was a dedicated volunteer in every sense of the word.
Mrs. Carroll, 74, of Florence, died Saturday in St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Mrs. Carroll was foremost a mother and homemaker, but she found time to serve in numerous civic and political organizations, and to make friends doing it.
"She was a wonderful friend and mother. I'll miss her, as will her children and many, many people who knew her," said former Florence Mayor Evelyn Kalb.
Mrs. Carroll formerly served as a lay member of the Kentucky Licensure Board of Psychologists. She was also a former board member of the Northern Kentucky Area Development District and the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission. She also belonged to the Florence Women's Club and Friends of Comprehensive Care.
"She kept busy," said her daughter, Peggy Nowak, of Burlington.
Mrs. Carroll was well known in political circles. She was a member of the Boone County Women's Democratic Club and the organization's ethics committee, as well as the bipartisan Northern Kentucky Women's Political Caucus, her daughter said.
Though she did not seek elective office herself, she was a strong influence on her son, Shawn Carroll, a member of the Boone County Board of Education.
"She most definitely influenced me," said Shawn Carroll, of Florence.
"She was an absolutely loyal Democrat, and a good friend," said former Boone County Judge- executive Bruce Ferguson.
Mrs. Carroll was a native of Covington, but most of her formative years were spent in Central Kentucky. She returned to Northern Kentucky and worked at Coppins' Department Store and at the Federal Reserve Bank in Cincinnati during World War II, her daughter said.
His mother lived in the same house in Florence for 41 years, Shawn Carroll noted.
Other survivors include her husband, John D. Carroll; sons, Patrick Carroll of Union and Kevin Carroll of Darien, Conn.; a brother, John F. Lenihan of Covington; and six grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Service, Cincinnati. Daniel F. Baker, 82, of Edgewood, died at 12:26 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He retired as a trainmaster in 1977 after 36 years with Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and was an Army veteran of World War II, where he earned the Soldier's Medal for Bravery and a Purple Heart. He retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 1976.
He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park, and a former member of Alexandria Methodist Church. He was a member of Covington Masonic Lodge No. 109, Scottish Rite and Syrian Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Bradford Baker; sons, Daniel Baker of Dallas and David Baker of Edgewood; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Virginia Baker Braun, 77, of Fort Mitchell, died at 3 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was a retired bookkeeper for Beacon Construction Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Braun Kuhlmorgen of Havelock, Ontario; and one grandchild.

Leo A. "Bud" Currier, 38, of Berry, died Saturday at University Hospital in Cincinnati from injuries sustained Saturday in a single-vehicle accident on Ky. 36 in Grant County. He was a machinist for Gusher Pump Co., Dry Ridge. He was a founding member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dry Ridge.
Survivors include a daughter, Casi Currier of Corinth; his parents, Leo E. and Carolyn Montney Currier of Berry; a brother, Brian L. Currier of Williamstown; and a sister, Debra Ayne Sargent of Berry.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Clell "Junior" Gabbard, 48, of Newport, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a truck driver for Stanco Equipment.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Fryman Gabbard; a son, Clell Gabbard III of Newport; a daughter, Donna NeCamp of Dayton; brothers, Noble Gabbard of Butler, Pete
Gabbard of Latonia, Earl Gabbard of Corbin and Lloyd Gabbard of Pikeville; sisters, Mary Jane Patrick of Covington, Shirley Stanley of Monroe, Mich., and Susie Brewer and Lois Herrald, both of Corbin; and four grandchildren.

Bessie Coulter Harris, 87, of Newport, died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Lester Harris, died in 1975, and a son, Lester Harris Jr., died in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Walter Harris of Woodlawn; daughters, Mary Holthaus of Alexandria and Barbara Smith of Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Georgia Marie Kingcade, 86, of Latonia, died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday at Rosedale Manor in Latonia. She was a homemaker and a former member of First Baptist Church, Covington. She was a member of American Legion and Daughters of America.

Clyde Lunsford, 82, of Brooksville, died Friday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. He was a retired truck driver for Smith Transfer and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Sizemore Lunsford; sisters, Guyoma Douglas of Atlanta and Viola Parrot of La Follette, Tenn.; and a brother, Ron Lunsford of Cincinnati.

James Wright McCord Jr., 78, of Fort Thomas, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at his residence. He was a retired business consultant for Dunn & Bradstreet Inc., Cincinnati, and an usher for the Cincinnati Reds at Cinergy Field. He was a member of St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas, where he was a member of the Resurrection Choir and past member of parish council; the St. Thomas Over 55 Club; and the Widow and Widower Groups at St. Thomas, St. Agnes and St. Pius parishes. His wife, Jeanne Neltner McCord, died in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Maggio of Fort Thomas; a son, James W. McCord III of Fort Thomas; and nine grandchildren.

Wanda Lee Myers, 76, of Latonia, died at 10:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was a retired superintendent for the credit department at Lazarus, Cincinnati. She was a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, Latonia; and Lazarus Credit Women's Association. A son, Charles E. Myers Jr., died in 1998.

Margaret Turley Juett Perry, 76, of Williamstown, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a retired owner and operator of the former Williamstown Lumber and Hardware Co. She was a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church. Her husband, Ralph D. Perry, died in 1976.
Survivors include a daughter, Jarrett P. Boyd of Carrollton; sons, Robert W. Perry and Samuel D. Perry, both of Williams town; sisters, Virginia Dell Wobbe and Flora Jane Engelbrecht, both of Springfield, Ohio; a brother, Henry W.
