Florence's Laura McCarty, career nurse, devoted to family
Laura McCarty made numerous friends and acquaintances in a 27-year career as a nurse.
"Everywhere we would go she would see somebody she knew from the practice," said Mrs. McCarty's daughter, Doris Serra, of Erlanger. "Everyone seemed to remember her and to love her."
Mrs. McCarty, 66, of Florence, died Friday night in her home.
A licensed practical nurse, she had retired about four years ago, after working nearly three decades in the offices of Drs. Ammon and Marksberry in Florence, her daughter said.
"She even helped deliver some of her grandchildren," Mrs. Serra said.
When Cincinnati Reds players came to the doctors' office, she would get their autographs for her grandson.
Before becoming a nurse in the doctors' office, Mrs. McCarty worked at several area hospitals, and after retirement worked briefly at Lens Crafters in Florence, Mrs. Serra said.
Her mother was very interested in her large family, Mrs. Serra said, and also liked to work crossword puzzles and crochet.
Mrs. McCarthy moved to Florida in the years after her retirement, but then came back to this area, her daughter said.
