Clare Duncan, engineer, loved people
Clare F. Duncan of Taylor Mill had a sterling resume: He was a World War II veteran who went on to become a quality control engineer at two large companies.
But there was more to Mr. Duncan than his patriotism and a successful career.
"He had a nickname of 'Huggy Bear,' which he was called by his many friends," said State Rep. Thomas Kerr of Taylor Mill, Mr. Duncan's son-in-law.
"And he had many, many friends because even though he had a gruff exterior, he had a good, tender heart and people recognized that.
"We're certainly going to miss him, but he trusted in Christ, and we're looking forward to a blessed reunion with him in Heaven some day."
Mr. Duncan died Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was 83 years old.
Mr. Duncan was a native of Southgate and served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a quality control engineer for General Electric in Cincinnati for about 22 years and then held the same position at Husky Products in Florence for about 10 years.
After Mr. Duncan retired, he had more time to pursue a favorite hobby: golf.
He enjoyed people and was a member of the Covington Turners, Kelly Furnish VFW Post No. 7099 in Covington and American Legion Post No. 41 in Carrollton.
"He was very outgoing, kind and generous," said Betty Duncan of Taylor Mill, a daughter-in-law.
