A Pendleton County native, Mrs. Atha and her husband of 51 years, William Atha, raised sheep, cattle and tobacco for many years in Grant County.
She was honored as Kentucky Master Farm Homemaker.
Then in 1968, the family left the farm for Florence. Atha, after the age of 40, enrolled at Northern Kentucky University and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She went on to win a prestigious Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.

Like her brother, Mrs. Atha was a people person who made friends wherever she went, said her daughter, Cheryl Caldwell of Georgetown.

She said her mother was an excellent role model.
