Amber Nicole Shinkle, Conner student
Amber Nicole Shinkle, who enjoyed singing and writing, was looking forward to her 16th birthday next month and to getting her driver's license.
She would have been a freshman at Conner High School in the fall.
The 15-year-old Petersburg girl died at 5:55 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence from complications of an asthma attack.
She had lived with asthma since she was 8.
Amber had attended Kelly Elementary and Conner Middle schools. She sang in the chorus at school.
"She was a very good student," said her grandfather, James Daniels of Fort Wayne, Ind.
"She was very outgoing - a people person."
She was a member of the youth group at Belleview Baptist Church and a former Girl Scout.
Survivors include her parents, Kenneth W. and Joni L. Daniels Shinkle of Petersburg; a brother, Terry James Shinkle of Petersburg; grandparents, James and Marjorie Daniels of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Terry and Connie Shinkle of Belleview; and great-grandparents, Leonard Daniels of Silver Spring, Fla., and Juanita Scudder and Hazel Shinkle, both of Florence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Amber Shinkle Memorial Fund, in care of Bank One, 1065 Burlington Pike, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Effie Miller Beach, 81, of Walton, died Saturday at her daughter's home. She was a custodian at the First Baptist Church of Walton, where she also was a member.
Survivors include sons, Robert Beach of Dry Ridge and Ronald Beach of Walton; a daughter, Bonnie McCubbin of Independence; a sister, Marie Branhan of Mount Sterling; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Thelma Jerri Burning, 59, of Cold Spring, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Burning, and her mother, Georgia Ledonne of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Violet E. Costa, 84, of Alexandria, died at 2:45 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jerome A. Costa, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Jerome Augusta Costa Jr. of Muncie, Ind., Anthony Costa of Fort Thomas and Stephen Allan Costa of Norwood, Ohio; a daughter, Suzanne McCormick of Fruitland Park, Fla.; a sister, June Diefenbach of Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Alexandria Funeral Home. Lawrence H. Flaherty, 64, of Cincinnati, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday at Franciscan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired salesman and a member of Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Eisele Flaherty, and a brother, Patrick Flaherty of Las Vegas.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Mission Church, Union. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Mission Cemetery, Union. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Mission, 2760 Beaver Road, Union, Ky. 41091.
Edna Mae Hodson Haynes, 60, of Williamstown, died at 11:57 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, after an extended illness. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. Haynes; sons, Randy Guinn, Robert Guinn and Doug Haynes, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughters, Karen Suttles and Dedra Heidenreich, both of Knoxville, and Tonya Sunayama of Williamstown; her mother, Mae Hargrove Hodson of Knoxville; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville. Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, is handling arrangements.
Barbara A. Karr, 61, of Union, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Big Bone Park Services, and a member of First Church of Christ, Burlington.
Survivors include her husband, George Karr of Union; a son, Jerry Karr of Union; a daughter, Rita Martin of Union; sisters, Elaine Bailey and Janet Smith, both of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at O'Neil Funeral Home, Corbin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, and from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at O'Neil Funeral Home. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Corbin.
Dorothy F. McKenzie, 79, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Martha Nordman, 89, of Fort Mitchell, died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was an operator with Cincinnati Bell and a member of Senior Citizens of Northern Kentucky and Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell.
Survivors include a sister, Irene Wethington of Cincinnati.

Loretta C. Schreiber Schuchter, 84, of Melbourne, died at 4:38 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Aloys Schuchter, preceded her in death.

Frank C. Smith Jr., 79, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
