Roy Ladrigan, loving father, oversaw Kenton golf course
Roy H. Ladrigan, the superintendent of the Kenton County Golf Course in Independence, was known for his dedication to his family and to his craft.
As a father and a husband, Mr. Ladrigan was patient and kind, said his wife, Mary Ann Portwood Ladrigan.
"He loved his daughters. He said his greatest achievement in life was his three daughters," she said. "And as a husband, he was very romantic."
As a golf superintendent, Mr. Ladrigan wanted to ensure that golfers had the best course he could possibly sculpt.
"He always had a smile on his face," said his friend, Kenton County Treasurer Ivan Frye.
"You could always find him at the golf course during daylight or at dusk, when he was planning the next day. He brought the golf course to a world-class condition, which isn't easy to do with a municipal golf course."
Mr. Ladrigan, 62, of Independence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North.
He worked 19 years in Kenton County. He also worked for 17 years at the Royal Oak Golf Course in Ohio.
"He was always busy," Frye said. "He would look into every detail."
Mr. Ladrigan was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Ohio Valley Walking Horse Association, Greater Cincinnati Superintendents Association and Kentucky Turf Grass.
Mr. Ladrigan enjoyed raising swans and was well-known for the many swans he donated to the Kentucky Horse Park, Spring Grove cemetery and Mason Christian Village.

Elzene M. Trimble, helped editor-husband all her life
Elzene Miller Trimble, wife of former Kentucky Post Editor Vance Trimble, died at 9:32 p.m. Monday at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She was 87.
Mrs. Trimble had a steel will sheathed in Southern charm and was her husband's greatest supporter, closest friend and, at times, most astute critic.
The couple met in high school in Wewoka, Okla., where she was the business manager of the high school paper, and he was the editor. They formed a lifelong team.
"She was very literary, a great lover of poetry," said Mr. Trimble. "She was inspiring. We were in love."
They married
during the Depression and embraced life as an adventure. In the early years, they took to the road. He repaired typewriters, and the two sometimes slept in the car. By the time Mr. Trimble was 24, he was a financial editor at the Tulsa Tribune, and the two rode his journalistic rise that took them to Houston, and then to Washington, D.C., where he won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting in 1960.
Mrs. Trimble was his sounding board. She charmed Washington, where they were guests at the homes of senators and congressmen and visited the White House. Mrs. Trimble even danced with LBJ.
She never lost her Southern roots or her sense of adventure, and passed both to their daughter, Carol Ann.
Mrs. Trimble sparkled at dinner parties at their home and reveled in fast-paced bridge games. The couple designed and built several homes together, each with a Frank Lloyd Wright flair. They moved to Kenton Hills in 1963, when Mr. Trimble was named editor of The Kentucky Post.
The two traveled the world together, though in recent years Mrs. Trimble had been ill.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Trimble is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Nordheimer of Wilmington, Del., and sister, Edwina Cline of Houston, Texas.
