James Edgar Appleman, 'a man who just loved people'
James Edgar Appleman was an Augusta City Council member, private business owner and long-time foreman at a local company.
But one of his daughters, Edythe Flaugher of Augusta, remembers him most for his kindness and willingness to help others.
"He was a soft-spoken, agreeable type of man. He was a man who just loved people," Mrs. Flaugher said. "There aren't enough of them around."
Mr. Appleman, 80, of Port Royal, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a retired foreman with F. A. Neider Co. in Augusta and member of St. Augustine Church in Augusta.
Mr. Appleman spent most of his life in Bracken County and was an all-star basketball player at Augusta High School during the 1930s.
He served on the City Council during the 1950s, when the town was much smaller. He encouraged economic growth, his daughter said, and ran Appleman's Sundries, which served ice cream and sandwiches.
Later, after his business closed, Mr. Appleman became a factory foreman.
"He was always interested in having the town grow and progress," Mrs. Flaugher said.
"Dad was interested in getting some thing done. He cared about the welfare of the town."
Mr. Appleman was a member of Augusta VFW Post No. 9535. His wife, Bess Reynolds Appleman, died in 1989. A daughter, Betsy Appleman, also preceded him in death.
Other survivors include another daughter, Susanne Thornsbury, of Augusta; sons, Jim Appleman of Greenville, Ohio, and Mike Appleman of Port Royal; a sister, Shirley Fulton of Ripley, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Augusta. Eunice Sue Tritsch, milliner, costumer,
beloved as Covington's 'Bird Lady'
When Eunice Sue Tritsch wasn't making costumes for her church's Christmas plays, she could be found helping a stray or injured bird in her West Covington neighborhood.
"The children in West Covington used to call her the "Bird Lady," said a niece, Linda Sanders of Covington.
"They would find young birds who were in danger and bring them to her and she would nurse them until they could go out on their own. If they couldn't, she would keep them as pets."
Miss Tritsch, 97, of West Covington, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday at her home. She was a retired milliner, or hat maker, with Shillito's department store in Cincinnati.
Miss Tritsch's talents as a seamstress and hat maker were well-known. She often made her own clothes and made the costumes for the church plays at Epworth United Methodist Church in Covington, where she was a member.
"The costumes were beautiful," Mrs. Sanders said.
Miss Tritsch spent most of her life in Covington, her niece said.
Miss Tritsch studied art at the Baker-Hunt Foundation in Covington.
"She had a real sense of humor and sometimes it was a witty, dry sense of humor," Mrs. Sanders said. "She was very fun-loving."
Other survivors include sisters, Albertha Sanders of Covington and Norma Deins of St. Augustine, Fla.; a brother, John "Sonny" Tritsch of Cincinnati; and a nephew, David Sanders of Covington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Epworth United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Karen Lisa Cheshire, 36, of Burlington, died at 9:28 a.m. Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew Cheshire; a son, Ian Andrew Cheshire, at home; and her mother, Mimalene Karr of Florence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Locust Grove Church, Corbin. Burial will be in McFarland Cemetery, Corbin. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Richard J. Class, 34, of Morning View, died Monday at his home. He was an employee of Rookwood Properties, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle Class of Alexandria; sons, Zachary Class and Ryan Class, both of Alexandria; his mother and stepfather, Judy and Charles Davis of Fort Thomas; his stepmother, Lyda Class of Pennsylvania; brothers, Jarrod Class of Tucson, Ariz., David Porter Field of Newport, Don Class of Crittenden and Shawn Class of Pennsylvania; and a sister, Becky Class of Pennsylvania.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Alexandria Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Darrell Lee Conway, 55, of Latonia, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a truck driver with Reading Rock Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Ann L. Conway; a daughter, Janie Stull of Elsmere; brothers, Roger Conway of Florence and Anthony Conway of Frenchburg; sisters, Regina Bolin of Stanton and Brenda Conway of Lexington; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Anna Buerkley Fardo, 92, died Thursday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.

Muriel Flerlage, 83, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Silver Grove.
Survivors include a nephew, Bruce Rath of Fort Thomas; and a niece, Beverly Rath of Fort Thomas.

Elizabeth "Betty" Schreiber Gallichio, 71, of Fort Thomas, died at 8 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Anthony M. Gallichio, died in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Marian Gallichio of Fort Thomas; sons, Stephen A. Gallichio of Hebron, Kenneth J. Gallichio of Verona and Anthony W. Gallichio of Newport; and five grandchildren.

George Willis Goodwin, 80, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a customer service worker with American Airlines, a member of Florence Alliance Church, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Margaret Goodwin, died in 1983.
Survivors include daughters, Gigi Davenport of Florence and Peggy Goodwin-Karimi of Kansas City; a brother, Olen Goodwin of Fort Myers, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Alison Nichole Hamm, Austin Fredrick Hamm and William Phillip Hamm, infant children of Phillip and Melinda Walden Hamm of Hebron, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Wendell "Winnie" McIntyre, 41, of Warsaw, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was an employee of Coomer Contractors, Crittenden, and a member of Good Guys Club, Warsaw.

Ruth F. Reeves, 74, of Florence, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was an immigration officer with the U.S. Immigration Service and a member of the Blue Belle Club. Her husband, Wilbert Reeves, died in 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Wyman of Florence; a brother, Edward Foran of Bellevue; and four grandchildren.

John Dareld Rich, 39, of Fort Worth, Texas, was found dead July 15 in Fort Worth. He was a food service worker.
Survivors include his mother, Lagrande "Lee" Rich of Taylor Mill; brothers, James M. Rich of Stockton, Calif., David A. Rich of Covington and Jerry D. Rich of Princeton, Texas; and a sister, Sandy G. Rich of Covington.

Sam Satterwhite, 90, of Jonesville, died Wednesday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Mason Satterwhite; and a brother, Jimmy D. Satterwhite of Jonesville.

Viola Smith, 80, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Mountain Assembly of God Church, Newport. Her husband, Hays Smith, died in 1995.
Survivors include daughters, Martha Blevins of Alexandria, Alma Burris and Gladys Bowling, both of Newport; sons, Hays Smith Jr. of Cold Spring and Hank Smith of Covington; a sister, Marybell Napier of Pasadena, Md.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Shaelynn Michelle Stidham, daughter of William and Danielle Stidham of Newport, died shortly after birth Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
