Frieda Schmeusser, avid reader
Frieda B. Schmeusser was rarely without a book.
"One her favorite things to do was to read books," said her daughter, Shirley Tuemler of Edgewood. "That's one of my favorite things to do, too.
"She just read all the time. She would put one book down and pick up another one. She would read things over and over because she just liked the process of reading."
Mrs. Schmeusser, 90, of Florence, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. Mrs. Schmeusser was a busy person who loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren, Mrs. Tuemler said. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, sewing and quilting, her daughter said.
At Colonial Heights, a retirement community in Florence where Mrs. Schmeusser lived for 13 years, she was always lending a helping hand.
"If there was somebody who couldn't get around, she was there to help them," Mrs. Tuemler said.
Other survivors include a son, Carl Schmeusser of Medford, Ore.; a sister, Alma Puisegur of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the local library of the donor's choice.
Ruth Marie Bailey, 72, of Latonia, died at 1 a.m. Monday at her home. She was a retired bookkeeper with Riverside Ford, Newport, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Latonia Baptist Church. Her husband, Harold Bailey, died in 1993.
Survivors include a son, David Bailey of Roswell, Ga.; brothers, Benjamin Clifford Tinnell of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Howard Tinnell of Crescent Park; sisters, Edith Cole of Covington and Winnona Wiehie of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Helen Ann Bird, 88, of Florence, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Elmer Bird, preceded her in death.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Arlington Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203. Staley-Crowe Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.
Mandy Lynn Begley Brewer, 34, of Butler, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was an employee of ZF Industries Inc., Florence, and a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Pendleton County.
Survivors include a son, Jesse Brewer of Butler; daughters, Megan Brewer and Marissa Brewer, both of Butler; her father, Taft Begley of Indiana; her mother and stepfather, Joyce and Stan Taylor of Butler; a brother, Tim Begley of Butler; a sister, Mabel Ogg of Butler; and grandparents, George Taylor and Eudell Dempsey, both of Butler.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery.
Daisy Barnes Crofford, 89, of Falmouth, died Thursday at her home after an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Morgan Christian Church, Pendleton County. Her husband, James Crofford, died in 1985. A son, Paul Crofford, died Jan. 6.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Wilson of Falmouth; a son, Roy Crofford of Independence; sisters, Lou Sutton of Covina, Calif., Mildred Jenkins of Berry and Pauline Tucker of Cynthiana; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Edith Marie Fryman, 78, of Maysville, died at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. She was a cafeteria worker with Old Orangeburg Elementary School, a former employee of Parker Tobacco Co. and Modern Laundry, both of Maysville, and a member of Church of God Our Savior, Maysville. Sons, Frankie C. Fryman, Terry Fryman and Ricky Fryman, and daughters, Wanda Fryman and Alma Fryman, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Fryman; sons, Timmy Fryman and Michael Fryman, both of Maysville; daughters, Shirley Mullikin, Ruby Hayslip, Sandy Simmons, Paulette Elliott, Debbie Elliott and Sue Staggs, all of Maysville, and Sylvia Jean Kilgore of Logansport, Ind.; brothers, Clayton Powell of Manchester, Ohio, Arnold Powell of Pensacola, Fla., and Joe Powell and Ray Powell, both of Maysville; 37 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
Elmer Hall, 84, of Latonia, died today at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. Arrangements are pending at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia.
Bertha C. Hummel, 71, of Owenton, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, William Hummel; a daughter, Carol Moore of Frankfort; a son, Tom Hummel of Independence; a brother, Joseph Duddey of Dry Ridge; sisters, Lorraine Glass of Independence and Ruth Duddey of Covington; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in St. John Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, Ky. 40601. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Allie Jackson Jr., 68, of Crestview Hills, died at 10:04 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was owner of the Allie Jackson & Associates insurance firm in Erlanger and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Killen Jackson; a son, Allie Jackson III of Florence; daughters, Robin McClure of Edgewood and Kim Masters of Florence; his mother, Maridale Jackson of Louisville; sisters, Ruth Williams of Taylor Mill and Marilee Dean of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dorothy M. Powell, 67, of Covington, died Wednesday at her home. She was an employee of Equitable Bag Co., Florence. Her husband, Thomas Powell II, died in 1990.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Powell of Cincinnati and Kathy Douglas of Mount Sterling; a son, Thomas Powell III of Covington; brothers, James Hurst and Richard Hurst, both of Florence; sisters, Shirley Martin of Alexandria and Barbara Thomas of Crittenden; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
