Dora Lewis spoke mind, shared heart
Dora Lewis didn't raise 13 children by being a shrinking violet.
Although kind and considerate, she didn't hesitate to speak her mind, said her eldest daughter, Hazel Marie Farrington.
Mrs. Lewis, 76, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
She was a homemaker.
"She was a very loving and caring person," said Mrs. Farrington, of Flint, Mich.
"She was also an outspoken person, and she'd tell you what she thought in a heartbeat."
The Cooper Funeral Home in Grants Lick was filled Friday with friends and loved ones paying their last respects.
To accommodate the dozens of family members, visitation also is scheduled today and Saturday.
"She loved children, and she loved having her family around her," said Mrs. Farrington.
Other survivors include her husband, Warren Lewis; daughters, Faye LaFollette of Falmouth, Eva Gullion of Covington, Brenda Kittle of Morning View and Linda Tucker of Cincinnati; sons, Willie Deaton, Mike Deaton, Bob Deaton and A.J. Deaton, all of Flint, Mich., James Sebastian Jr. of Covington and Tony Sebastian of Louisville; a brother, Joe McIntosh of Jackson; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. A son, Randy Sebastian, and a daughter, Nancy Deaton, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Edith Clements, 71, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
She was a homemaker.
Services were held Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, handled arrangements.
Naaman Cook, 65, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangments are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
Obbie Cook, 79, of Sanders, died Thursday at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind.
He was a retired truck driver for Coo-Par Concrete, Carrollton, and an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a former manager for Kentuckiana Tobacco Warehouse, Carrollton; former owner of Eagle Valley Campground, Sanders; and a farmer in Owen County. He was a member of Dallasburg Baptist Church, Wheatley.
His wife, Emma Cook, and a son, Gary Ray Cook, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include sisters, Marie Clinkscales of Madison, Ind., Mabel Roberts of Burlington and Janice Ryan of Verona; a brother, Leonard Cook Jr. of Piner; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery, Wheatley.
Tyler Eljah Allen Hilligas, 4, of Campbellsville, formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at his residence.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Rose Helton Hilligas of Covington; a brother, Brandon Hilligas of Covington; a sister, Rachel Hilligas of Coving ton; a half-sister, Katelynn Taylor of Covington; and grandparents, Roy and Barbara Helton of Berea and Ken and Joan Hilligas of Covington.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.
Lucretia "Lula" McManis, 91, of Butler, died Wednesday at River Valley Nursing Home in Butler.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, Dayton, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include a son, James McManis of Bellevue; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Henrietta Sprankel, 83, formerly of Covington, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday at her son's residence in Hebron.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
