Dr. E.S. Weaver, loving dad, helped found Carroll hospital
Dr. E. S. Weaver built a lifetime of goodwill during a long medical career that took him from serving in Italy during World War II to helping establish Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Weaver, who was born in Scottsville, served as chief medical officer in the Army Medical Corps in Italy during World War II. After the war, he and a colleague, Dr. Hugh Williams, helped establish the hospital in Carrollton.
"They decided they ought to have a hospital here. He had been practicing out of Madison, Ind., which is 12 miles downstream," said Dr. Weaver's son, William W. Weaver of Carrollton.
"He was also the last doctor in town with a black bag and a Jeep."

Dr. Weaver was a former member of the Carrollton City School Board and was a major force in the consolidation of the city schools with Carroll County Schools. He was also a former chief medical officer of the Veterans Ad ministration Southeastern Quadrant in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Dr. Weaver's father, Warren Weaver, was a former mayor of Scottsville and later became Allen County clerk.
Dr. Weaver graduated from Western Kentucky University and was proud to make house calls, his son said. Dr. Weaver also served as the team doctor for Carrollton High School, where William Weaver played football.
William Weaver said he became a star halfback because of his father's dedication and pride. He said his father would patch him up whenever he was injured and instilled a sense of discipline and determination within him.
"He told me there was nothing I could do that I couldn't tell him," William Weaver said.
"My father was soft-spoken. He was very deliberate and smart."
