Rev. Jack D. Ross, founded Miracle Temple in Covington
As a minister, the Rev. Jack D. Ross believed in promoting goodwill, harmony and generosity. As a man, he believed in following his own advice.
Rev. Ross, an Edgewood resident, was founder and former pastor of Miracle Temple Church in Covington.
Rev. Ross, 61, of Edgewood, died Saturday at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati.
A daughter, Karen Ross of Cincinnati, said more than 100 people visited her father in the days just before his death.
One woman told of how Rev. Ross replaced all of the money she had lost when her purse was missing. Another woman told of how he bought materials and repaired her roof with his own hands. Still others spoke about how Rev. Ross bought them stock in Procter & Gamble so they could have a chance to have extra income.
'He helped people from Florida to Detroit,' Miss Ross said. 'He enjoyed visiting the sick and giving of his time.'
He was the presiding elder for the Kentucky and Tennessee District of First Born Church. He was also a retired boiler engineer with Procter & Gamble and a community activist.
Two of Rev. Ross' survivors - his wife, Willa Mae Wilson Ross and a son, Richard Ross of Covington - will continue to lead the Miracle Temple Church, his daughter said.
Rev. Ross was active in the Northern Kentucky Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and the William Martin Northern Kentucky Community Center. He was a native of Catherine, Ala., who spent most of his life serving others, his daughter said.
Rev. Ross also had a good sense of humor and enjoyed being with his family and friends, his daughter said.
'He was very comical and tried to bring joy to life,' Miss Ross said.
'He was full of energy and was also very busy. He loved serving the Lord and his people.'
Besides his wife, daughter and son, Rev. Ross is also survived by his sons,Robert Ross of Covington, Romon Ross of Fort Wright; daughter, Sharon Norris of Covingtona foster son, Tim Ramsey of Edgewood; foster daughters, Cassie Schrode and Ethel Larkin, both of Edgewood; a brother, Henderson Ross of Cincinnati; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Potters Temple First Born Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miracle Temple Church, with special memorial services following; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Potters Temple First Born Church. Mary Kate Brittingham, 15 months, of Pocomoke City, Md., died Sunday at her residence.
Survivors include her parents, Wayne Thomas 'Tom' Brittingham Jr. and Jo Ella Becker Brittingham; a sister, Annah Jo Brittingham at home; grandparents, Raymond and Marlene Becker of Ocean Pines, Md., Lois Becker of Bellevue, and Wayne Thomas Brittingham Sr. and Flora Brittingham of Pocomoke City; and great-grandparents, Omega Bates of Harlan, Ruth Pettit Brittingham of Princess Anne, Md., and Irving and Emma Scarborough of Girdletree, Md.

Flossie Carson, 97, of Taylor Mill, died at 8:35 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a founding member of Fairfield Church of Christ in suburban Cincinnati. A son, William M. Owens, died in 1944.
Survivors include a daughter, Edna DeBerry of Taylor Mill; a son, Brig. Gen. Thurman Owens of Florence; his stepmother, Eula Mullins of Hamilton, Ohio; a sister, Virgie Abney of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Charles H. Dawson, 82, of Somerset, formerly of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He was a retired laborer. His wife, Geneva Martin Dawson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Adams of Florence.

Alma Dunaway, 74, of Erlanger, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired clerk with F. W. Woolworth Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Jesse E. Dunaway, died in 1978.

Irene Estelle Ferguson, 84, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of World Wide Church of God. Her husband, John Kenneth Ferguson, died in 1993. A son, Gene Ferguson, died in 1997.

Douglas Fields Sr., 87, of Belleview, died Monday at his home. He was a retired farmer and equipment operator.

J. William 'Bill' Geise, 68, of Union, N.J., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died April 9 at his home. He owned Rotating Equipment Specialists Co. in Union, N.J., and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Frieda Zimmerman Geise, preceded him in death.

Buford G. 'Boots' Henry, 69, of Williamstown, died at 3:07 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a building contractor, a farmer and a mechanic. He was a member of Marcus Crooked Creek Baptist Church and a founding member of Kentucky Houndsmen Association. A son, Lonnie Ray Henry, died in 1971.

Margaret A. Hoffman, 85, of Dayton, died at 5:25 p.m. Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a nursing assistant with Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. Her husband, Charles Hoffman, died in 1966. A son, Jerry Hoffman, died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Brown of Dayton; a son, Ken Hoffman of Florence; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth 'Libby' Lloyd, 83, of Dayton, died Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a retired clerk with Snodgrass Distributing Co., and a member of Speers Court Social Club and Avenue Ladies Social Club.
