Glavis Cox, milkman for 27 years
Glavis 'Skip' Cox delivered milk and other staples to three generations of families in Newport, Bellevue and Dayton.
Mr. Cox, 89, of Covington, died at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
He spent 27 years as a milkman and retired in 1971 from the Clover Leaf Dairy.
Mr. Cox enjoyed the morning work and was on the job by 5 a.m. every day.
'He was always such a good guy,' said his wife, Lyda Mae Cox. 'Monday mornings, women would be changing their mattress covers, and he'd help them change their covers.
'He was always bringing something home. They were always making pies and cakes.'
Before he delivered milk, he worked for the United Parcel Service and was the first man to put on a UPS uniform in Cincinnati, when the company came to town in 1934.
He was called to service during World War II but couldn't go because of a bad back, his wife said.
'He was always jolly,' his wife said. 'Everybody knew Skip. We were married
67 years, and they were good years - a happy time.'
Other survivors include daughters, Gloria Cox Houston of Erlanger and June Ballinger of Bossier City, La.; a sister, Irene Cox of Covington; a halfbrother, Dale Cox of Holland, Mich.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Lola Blackburn, 90, of Florence, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
James Carl Compton, 81, of Louisville, formerly of Edgewood, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Brownsboro Hills Nursing Home in Louisville. He was a retired tool-and-die machinist for General Electric Corp., Evendale, Ohio, and a member of First Church of God, Latonia.
Survivors include daughters, Fanola Hangelbrauck of Cary, N.C., and Tanuel Richardson of Louisville; sisters, Hallie Hawkins of Louisville, Lillie Atwell of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Clara Tucker of Covington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, with visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Margaret V. Schmits Costa, 78, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Bellevue and Fort Thomas, died Thursday at Palm Garden Nursing Home in Vero Beach.
She was a retired clerk for Sanzone Palmusano Produce, Cincinnati, and a member of St. John's on the CrossChurch, Vero Beach; and Village Green Swan Lake Social Club of Vero Beach. She was a former member of Loyal Cafe Social Club, Bellevue.
A daughter, Margaret 'Peg' Minogue, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, August J. 'Gus' Costa; a son, Patrick Osborn of Nashville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Fran Spinner of Dallas; a stepson, Frank Costa of Cincinnati; a sister, Elizabeth 'Betty' Reuss of Fort Wright; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue, and visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Nathen Hunter Davis, 2 months, of Milton, W.Va., died Thursday at University Medical Center, Lexington.
Survivors include his parents, Mike and Nancy Starks Davis of Milton, W.Va., formerly of Gallatin County; a sister, Autumn Rose Davis, at home; grandparents, Sandra Templeton Davis of Milton, Terry E. Davis of Indiana and Thomas and Gwendolyn Connelly Starks of Somerset; and a great-grandmother, Irene Flora Templeton of Milton.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Templeton Cemetery, Milton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
Mary Louise Conrad Dougherty, 83, of Highland Heights, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
She was a former beauty shop owner and teacher and a member of First Baptist Church, Cold Spring, and the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Stanley M. Dougherty, died in 1997. Survivors include brothers, Tom F. Conrad of New Holland, Ohio, Ralph Conrad of Falmouth, Donald Conrad of Dry Ridge and James E. Conrad of Peach Grove; and a sister, Elnora Aulick of Falmouth.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Short Creek Cemetery, Pendleton County. Charles W. 'Bill' Granner Jr., 78, of Simpsonville, S.C., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Monday at St. Mary Hospital in Athens, Ga.
He was retired from Delta Foremost Chemicals and formerly worked for Johnson & Johnson and Mills Hospital Supplies. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II; past president of the Kentucky Drug Travelers Association; and a member of Central United Methodist Church, Asheville, N.C., and Masonic Lodge No. 808, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Alma O'Sheilds 'Cherrie' Granner; a daughter, Debra Granner Morris of Athens, Ga.; sons, Charles Wilson Granner III of Paducah, John Cortney Granner of San Jose, Calif., and Jeffrey Bryan Granner of Greenville, S.C.; sisters, Ruth Lawrence of Wichita, Kan., Marjory McFall of Richmond, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Dr. Susan A. McEvoy, 56, of Lexington, formerly of Burlington, died at 7 a.m. Friday at her sister's residence in Burlington.
She was a professor of dentistry at the University of Kentucky Dental School and a member of the American Dental Association, Kentucky Dental Association, American Association of Dental Research, American Academy of Pediatrics, Blue Grass Dental Association, International Association of Dental Research and American Association of Physical Anthropology.
Survivors include her mother, Aurelia Herzog McEvoy of Burlington, and a sister, Sally Schaeffer of Burlington.

Loral V. Quisenberry Mulcahy, 79, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired barmaid and cocktail waitress for the Netherland Hilton Hotel, Cincinnati.
Her husband, Raymond L. Mulcahy, died in 1984. Survivors include a stepson, Charles James Ring Sr. of Morningview; a stepdaughter, Josephine Stewart of Fairfield, Ohio; sisters, Ann Daugherty, Georgia Quisenberry and Dorothy Quisenberry of Louisa, Betty Rozes of Flushing, N.Y., and Shirley H. Carmen of New Jersey; brothers, Chad Quisenberry of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard Quisenberry of Ashland; and seven stepgrandchildren.

Bertha Lee Oliver, 85, of Melbourne, Fla., died Friday at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. She was a homemaker.

Hobert R. Perkins, 69, of Carrollton, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was a retired superintendent of transportation for the Kentucky Highway Department and a member of First Baptist Church, Carrollton.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Jones Perkins; a son, Mitchell D. Perkins of Worthville; daughters, Sheila White of Worthville and Belinda Lemker of Carrollton; a stepdaughter, Patricia Graves of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepson, Richard Thomas Rodgers of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Augustus G. Perkins of Carrollton; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Blanche J. Schachere, 103, of Newport, died Thursday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a homemaker and a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow; Ludlow Senior Citizens; and Ludlow Civic Club.
Her husband, Edward Schachere, and a son, Edward Schachere Jr., both preceded her in death. Survivors include a grandson, David Schachere of Ludlow; and a great-grandson, Tony Schachere of Ludlow.

Alvina Schneider, 92, of Cold Spring, died Thursday at her residence. She had worked on her parents' farm and was a Catholic. There are no surviving relatives.

He was a retired machinist for the Kroger Co. and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Catholic Foresters and American Legion, Fort Thomas.
