Serum Fails, And Mrs. Adams Answers Call
Her condition so weakened by an advanced stage of tuberculosis that the Dr. F. F. Friedman tubercular serum which was administered to her Monday night failed to stem the ravages of the disease, Mrs. Agnes Adams, wife of A. W. Adams, a New Boston baker succumbed at 9:30 o’clock Thursday morning. Death followed immediately after the breaking of an abscess which made the second similar attack with the past week.
Three day ago the Friedman serum was injected into the hip of Mrs. Adams with a hypodermic needle under the directions of Dr. W. G. Cheney, of New Boston. Prior to the first treatment of the new cure, Mrs. Adams had been treated by a prominent specialist and had spent practically the greater part of the past year in various sanitariums.
Her contraction of he illness dates back a year. All that the faithful husband could do to check the disease was done on behalf of his loving wife.
The death is the more pathetic in that Mrs. Adams was only twenty-four years of age and leaves two bright little children, Samuel David and George William Adams. She was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Samuel Bailey, of Greenup county, Ky., both of who survive, the father for many years being sheriff of that county.
In 1908 Mrs. Adams was married
to A. W. Adams, a well know baker and has resided in Portsmouth and New Boston ever since.
Besides the husband, children and aged parents, the decedent is survived by three sisters; Miss Nancy Bailey, of Greenup county, Ky., Mrs. Bertha Pierce, of Greenup, and Mrs. Lucy Stephenson, of Portsmouth and her aged grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jushua Bailey, of Greenup county.
Mrs. Adams was a faithful member of the First Christian church of this city. She had a wide circle of friends, all of whom will be deeply grieved to learn of her demise.
The remains will be taken to the old home at Greenup Friday noon. Short services will be held Saturday, with interment in the Bailey family cemetery.
