Newport's George Schwenterley, a hit with youth, Campbell seniors
George S. Schwenterley loved music, and both youngsters and senior citizens were the beneficiaries of that affection.
A retired driver-salesman for beer distributors, Mr. Schwenterley drove a bus for the fiscal court's senior citizen outings.
'He would sing with the senior citizens. We put a microphone in the bus and they would have a sing-along,' said Betty Cottingham, former director of human services for the Campbell County Fiscal Court.
'He was a very outgoing man and the senior citizens loved him,' said Mrs. Cottingham.

He worked with the Boy Scout troop at St. Therese Church in Southgate and was a founder of the Golden Knights Junior Drum and Bugle Corps at the church.
'He taught the kids music and did all the arrangements,' said his wife, Shirley Ledermeier Schwenterley.
'We traveled with the corps on their trips, to North Carolina, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and lots of other places. George would arrange the music, and sometimes he would drive the bus,' said Mrs. Schwenterley. 'Friendships he made among the members of the corps and their families have lasted over the years,' she said.
