Jeweler Edward H. Schulz, mastered the hands of time
Edward Henry Schulz was a master watchmaker and repairman.
Schulz co-owned Schulz Jewelry stores in Covington, Fort Mitchell and Latonia.
'People used to call him to repair watches that no one in the area could fix,' said his brother, Robert Schulz of Fort Wright. 'He truly was a master craftsman. He probably had the biggest hands on any watchmaker in Cincinnati. People couldn't believe how he could repair watches as big as his hands were. But he learned from the best.'
Mr. Schulz, 69, of Latonia, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
He learned the watch-repair trade from his father, Henry Schulz, who perfected the skill in Germany. Henry Schulz died in 1987. Edward Schulz' mother, Frieda, who also worked in the business, died earlier this month.
Mr. Schulz, who was an Army veteran of the Korean War, was a hard worker, his brother said.
'I can remember when he and I used to work all night long just to keep up with watch work,' Robert Schulz said.
Mr. Schulz was also a wonderful father and husband. 'He was always kind and considerate of his family and children,' Robert Schulz said. 'He was a loving father.'
Mr. Schulz also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
'He just loved life,' his brother said.
