P.D. Curry was pilot, air controller
Parker Dale "P.D." Curry was a pilot who later became a pioneering air traffic controller at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Mr. Curry was a World War II pilot who returned home to work in the control tower at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati.
In 1947, he helped open the control tower at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Boone County.
"We are all so proud of him," said a daughter, Patricia Jung of Villa Hills.
Mr. Curry, 78, of Florence, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Woodspoint Geriatric Care Center in Florence.
He retired at the age of 53 from the Federal Aviation Administration.
He kept his pilot's license after leaving the service and once took his children on a flight in a small plane to Indiana.
"It was wonderful and so much fun. We were small children at the time," Mrs. Jung said.
"We always told him, "Anyone could be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad.' "
Other survivors include his wife, Fern Curry; a son, Robert Curry of Erlanger; another daughter, Judith Hontas, of Villa Hills; a stepson, Michael Finn of Cincinnati; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Okron "Oak" Cloyd, 54, of Alexandria, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a supervisor for Duro Bag Co., Ludlow; a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Alexandria; assistant training chairman, Daniel Boone District of Dan Beard Council; and scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 75, Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Cloyd; sons, Eugene Cloyd and James Cloyd of Alexandria; daughters, Christina Carson and Melissa Tackett of Alexandria; brothers, Norman Cloyd of Michigan and Arva Ray Cloyd of Burlington; six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, with visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Oak Cloyd Camp Fund Troop No. 75, 5911 Bakerfield Road, Alexandria, Ky. 41001.
Lottie E. Vanhook Cordray, 85, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and member of Central Christian Church, Cynthiana. Her husband, William Cordray, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, William Frazier Cordray; daughters, Charlotte Ammerman and Wanda Marsh of Harrison County, and Rita Jones of Robertson County; a sister, Maymie V. Fryman of Bourbon County; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
William J. Cress, 66, of Walton, died Friday at his residence. He worked in management and as a security guard for Guardsmark and was a member of Sand Run Baptist Church, Hebron.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Cress; sons, Michael Cress of Hebron and Everett Alan Cress of Petersburg; daughters, Pam Cline of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda Cress of Elsmere and Jean Anderson of Chula, Mo.; stepsons, Tim Burns of Rockford, Ill., Herman Elam of Crab Orchard, David Elam of Park Hills, Bill Elam and George Bradley of Latonia; stepdaughters, Fritrena Danielsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Theresa Moller of Elsmere; a brother, Roy Cress of Omaha, Neb., a sister, Elsie Miller of Carmel, Calif.; 29 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Audrey C. Farmer, 79, of Haverhill, Mass., died Thursday at her residence.
She was an owner of H. L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home in Haverhill; an artist; and a member of the Hale Hospital Auxiliary, Haverhill Arts and Crafts Society, Haverhill Women's City Club, Haverhill Garden Club, Haverhill Historical Society and Friends of the Haverhill Public Library.
Survivors include her husband, H. Louis Farmer Jr., a daughter, Wendy C. Nienaber of Fort Thomas; sons, Henry L. "Hank" Farmer III of Newburyport, Mass., Duncan C. "Deke" Farmer of Bradford, Mass., and Michael Farmer of Richboro, Pa.; a brother, John D. Cameron of Falmouth, Maine; a sister, Nancy E. Ringsmuth of Fort Myers, Fla.; 10 grandchildren.
Private services will be held Monday at H. L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, with visitation from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and burial in Tewksbury Cemetery, Tewksbury, Mass.
John R. Funke, 56, of Town and Country, Mo., formerly of Erlanger, died Wednesday at his second residence in Mineola, Mo. He was a retired vice president and chief financial officer for Jefferson Smurfit Corp., St. Louis, and had worked for Hoerner Waldorf, Middletown, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Ryan Funke; sons, John R. Funke Jr. of Edwards, Colo., and Thomas Funke of Town and Country, Mo.; daughters, Nancy Funke Cassaday of St. Peters, Mo., and Katie Funke of Town and Country, Mo.; brothers, William Funke of Demossville, Paul Funke of Louisville and Lawrence Funke of Baltimore; and a sister, Dottie Funke Hayes of Erlanger.

Hermina Junk, 75, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Hebron, died Friday at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert Samuel Junk Jr., died in 1994. Survivors include daughters, Roberta Stracener of Bastrop, Texas, Rosemary Ramsey and Sandra Junk Jones of Florence; a brother, Frank Bell of Ludlow; sisters, Artie Reed of Crescent Springs, Carol Houp of Ludlow; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

Billie Kremer, 76, of Park Hills, died Friday at her residence. She was a retired sales clerk for Shillito's and a member of Order of Eastern Star, Rosebud Chapter No. 39, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 20.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton Kremer; daughters, Donna Berry of Crittenden and Rae Baker of Falmouth; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger, with visitation 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Hilda J. Meier, of Covington, died at 5:55 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Clarence "Charlie" Smith, 52, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. A parking attendant for Central Parking, Cincinnati, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a daughter, Sonja Bosse of Latonia; sons, Charles "Chuck" Smith of Latonia and Brandon Smith of Covington; his fiancee, Libby McFarland of Covington; stepdaughters, Tammy McFarland, Charity McFarland and Victoria McFarland of Newport; a stepson, James McFarland of Newport; sisters, Gloria Smith of Melbourne and Linda Adkins and Tammy Disney of Florence; brothers, Jack Smith, James Smith and Rodney Smith of Covington and Robert Smith of Erlanger; four stepgrandchildren.

James Woodrow Solomon, 82, of Corinth, died Thursday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was a retired machinist for Cincinnati Steel, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of VFW Pulaski Post No. 47. A son, James R. Solomon, died in 1988.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rozella Woulns Solomon; daughters, Carol Barrett of Corinth and Rosalie Pierce of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Banie Edward Stanton, 88, of Maysville, died at 8:25 p.m. Thursday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. He was a farmer, a retired employee for the former Carnation Can Co., Maysville, and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville. A son, Jerry Stanton, and a daughter, Rachel Stanton, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Claire Stanton; sons, Phillip Stanton of Milwaukee, Charles Stanton of Mays- ville, Paul Stanton of Jackson, Tenn., and Gordon Stanton of Fort Myers, Fla.; daughters, Janet Anderson of St. Louis and Laura Ann Thompson of Mays- ville; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Katherine Meier Taylor, 101, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Union, died Thursday at The Commons at Orlando Lutheran Towers, Orlando. She was a homemaker and a former school teacher. Her husband, George Kenneth Taylor, died in 1977.
Survivors include a son, John Meier Taylor of Walton; a sister, Ethel Tanner of Florence; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Hebron Lutheran Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, is handling arrangements.
Clayton LeRoy Vaught, 55, of Burlington, died Wednesday at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was a warehouseman with Answers in Genesis, Florence, and a member of Bible Chapel of Delhi Hills, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Benguerel Vaught; a son, Casey Allen Vaught of Burlington; a daughter, Linsey Odelle Vaught of Burlington; a stepdaughter, Jessica Eileen Brooks of Colorado; a brother, Marvin Vaught Jr. of Jamul, Calif.; and sisters, Patricia Buckner and Ethel Sanders of San Diego.

Rev. Lee Wyatt, 70, of Owenton, died Wednesday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton. He was a former minister of Gratz Baptist Church; had served as minister at churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia; and had been a social worker for the state of Kentucky and an assistant chaplain in the Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Howard Wyatt; a son, Michael Wyatt of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Libby Wyatt of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Sam Wyatt of Briston, Va.; a sister, Mrs. George Bevins of Briston, Va.; and four grandchildren.
