Helen Storer's life was filled by long marriage, family, job
Raising eight children is an all-day job.
But Helen Virginia Sidney Storer didn't work on a 24-hour clock. In addition to being a mother of eight, she spent 26 years as a riveter with McGregor-Brunswick Co., where she assembled sporting goods equipment, like shoulder pads and baseball gloves.
"She liked to crochet, but really, she didn't have a lot of time for hobbies, raising eight children," said a daughter, Jean Osburg of Woodlawn.
Mrs. Storer, a former resident of Hathaway Court Senior Citizens Apartments in Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was 78.
Following the death of her husband, Harold E. Storer, in 1995, Mrs. Storer moved to Woodlawn to live with her daughter, Mrs. Osburg.
Prior to that, Mrs. Storer had lived in Covington her entire life.
Mrs. Storer was about 28 years old when she went to work as a riveter for McGregor-Brunswick. She worked there for 26 years.
She married
her husband in 1937, and over a span of 20 years, they had eight children. All were raised in West Covington, Mrs. Osburg said.
After she retired, Mrs. Storer enjoyed traveling with her husband. They took road trips to West Virginia, where Mr. Storer was born and reared, and New England.
The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in Las Vegas.
"She was probably one of the sweetest people in the world. She had a lot of friends . . . I don't think there's anybody that ever met her and didn't like her," Mrs. Osburg said.
