Wilbur F. Hindmarch, owned meat market
Wilbur F. Hindmarch, former owner of Hindmarch's Meats in Newport, died of an apparent heart attack at 8 a.m. Friday at his home in Highland Heights. He was 82.
Mr. Hindmarch was born in 1916 and grew up working in his father's store at Fourth and Columbia.
He learned meat cutting from his father and took over the business when his father died.
He served in the army during World War II, working in the quartermaster's office to keep food supplies flowing to the troops.
'If it hadn't been for the war, he probably would have gone on to college and become a social studies teacher,' said his niece, Rosann Sharon, who teaches at Dayton High School.
He maintained a lifelong interest in history and social studies, she said.
Mr. Hindmarch never married, but he was an active presence in the lives of his sister's children.
'When we were growing up, he took us and all our friends to the away football games and basketball games,' Mrs. Sharon said.
He and his mother, Rose, ran Hindmarch Meats until the mid-1960s, when they sold the business and the buyer tore it down to build a car lot.
He worked as a meat cutter for several other companies.
'He was easy going and talkative. He always said you should treat everybody nicely. You don't have to agree with everything they say, but you should acknowledge them and listen to them,' Mrs. Sharon said.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas, and Fort Thomas Retired Men's Club.
Other survivors include niece Susan Viel of Highland Heights; and a brother-in-law, Joseph A. Viel of Florence.
Services will be at noon Monday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Dorothy Frederick Harris Ashcraft, 75, of Mason, died at 5:46 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She was a retired sewing machine operator and a member of Knoxville Christian Church.
Her two husbands, William Harris and Gerald Ashcraft, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Brenda Brossart of California and Margie Schaaf of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sisters, Cora Belle Dance of Berry, and Helen Kathryn Cruey and Gladys Frederick, both of Mason; a brother, Raymond 'Buck' Fredrick of Owenton; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.
Jennings 'Jim' Ayers, 54, of Bellevue, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He was captain of security for Newport Steel, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and Big Stef Inc., all in Newport.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Ayers; a daughter, Shaila Ayers of Newport; and a sister, Carol Redmond of Wilder.
Services will be at 9 p.m. Sunday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Emma Combs, 90, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a homemaker and a member of Demossville Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Richard Combs; sons, Don Combs, Paul Combs, Luther Combs and Charlie Combs; and her daughter, Hazel Townsend, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.
Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.
Charles R. Madden, 94, of Covington, died at 11:35 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington.
He was a retired track supervisor for L&N Railroad, and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Employees.
His wife, Ilean Madden, died in 1993.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Madden of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; daughters, Wanda Robinson of Latonia, Darbra Fitzwater of Covington and Margaret Lenzer of Kanapolis, N.C.; sisters, Sybil Given of Middletown, Ohio, and Stella Burdge of Louisville; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, 313 W. 19th St., Covington.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.

Anna Louise Wilson, 69, of Hamilton, Ohio, formerly of Corinth, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton.
Her husband, Charles Wilson, died in 1992.
Her first husband, Anthony Weigand, and a daughter, Darlene Bradley, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Steve Wilson and Charles Wilson, both of Hamilton; daughters, Toni Moore of Hamilton and Mary Ann Feder of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, Hamilton.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at 1 p.m Monday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
