Edna Gutekunst, oldest Newport grad
To her friends and neighbors in Newport, Edna M. Hansjergen Gutekunst was "Miss Edna" and "Grandma Edna."
Mrs. Gutekunst, 92, of Newport, died Friday night in St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
"All summer her front porch would be filled with neighborhood children," said Mrs. Gutekunst's daughter, Lois Gore.
A lifelong resident of Newport whose family operated a carriage and wagon factory around the turn of the century, Mrs. Gutekunst graduated from Newport High School in 1923. At the city's bicentennial celebration three years ago, Mrs. Gutekunst rode in a car at the parade and was honored as the school's oldest living graduate.
During World War II, Mrs. Gutekunst's daughter related, her mother and friends met once a week to knit sweaters for the soldiers. "After the war the group continued to meet to play cards, and it's still active," said Mrs. Gore.
Mrs. Gutekunst's high school annual noted: "she loved to dance," and that interest carried on throughout her life, said Mrs. Gore. "She continued to dance until she suffered a heart at tack five years ago."
Until a few months ago, Mrs. Gutekunst never missed attended her great-granddaughter's soccer games, said Mrs. Gore.
Mrs. Gutekunst was a homemaker and a member of Southgate United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women, where she was a former treasurer; Gertrude Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star; Southgate Seniors; and Newport High School Alumni Association.
Her husband, Arthur C. Gutekunst, died in 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Gore of Wilder; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Newport High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, 1153 Highland Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Freda Dulaney, 91, of Dayton, died at 1:49 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a retired secretary for Ralph Simpson Insurance Co., Newport, and a member of Calvary Tower United Methodist Church, Bellevue, where she was the organist for 64 years. Her husband, Earl George Dulaney, died in 1964.
Survivors include a son, Earl Dulaney of Robbins, N.C.; daughters, Mary Dulaney of Dayton and Freda Smith of Alexandria; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Tom Englert, 58, of Taylor Mill, died Friday in Atlanta.

Lillie McClure, 90, of Alexandria, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Cold Spring.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Wickelhaus of Alexandria; a brother, Joe Wolfe of Alexandria; sisters, Dorothy Fausz of the state of Missouri and Betty Cox, of Manchester; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Norma Sander Meese, 86, of Covington, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper. Her first husband, Droege Sander, died in 1945. Her second husband, Celestine G. Meese, died in September.
Survivors include daughters, Judith Vogt of Fort Wright and Connie Williams of Edgewood; sons, David Sander of Florence and William Sander of Fort Wright; stepsons, Dale G. Meese of Lakeside Park and Cary Meese of Covington; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.
Edwin Samuel Roulette, 93, of Berry, died at 9:05 a.m. Friday at his residence. He was a retired tool and die maker and a member of Eggleston United Methodist Church, Erlanger.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Delores Roulette; a son, Greg Roulette of Williamstown; a daughter, Melanie G. Elam of Berry; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Ky. 40504.
O. Victor Steger, 71, of Williamstown, died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday at Owenton Manor Health Care Facility in Owenton.

Monica Danielle Stites, 21, of Florence, died Thursday in St. Charles, Mo. She was a clerk for a convenience store.
Survivors include her father, Norman Stites of Florence; and grandparents, Orville and Thelma Buckler of Petersburg, and Grace and Norman Stites Sr. of Florence.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Louis Paul "Lou" Terhaar, 68, of Huntington, Ind., formerly of Newport, died at 11:31 p.m. Friday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was a retired Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and formerly worked for the McAlpin's department store in Florence, and was a volunteer driver for Huntington Memorial Hospital, Huntington, Ind. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington; American Legion Post No. 190, Roanoke, Ind.; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Huntington; and VFW Post No. 2689, Huntington.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Farthing Terhaar; sons, Louis Terhaar Jr., Richard Terhaar and Anthony Terhaar, all of Newport; a daughter, Mary Terhaar of Newport; stepsons, Kent Farthing, Rick Farthing, Gary Farthing and Mark Farthing, all of Huntington, Ind., and Ron Farthing of Monroe, Ind.; stepdaughters, Linda Denman, Sue Mygrant and Donna Pierson, all of Huntington, Ind., and Carol Wyatt of Markle, Ind.; a brother, Leo Terhaar of Silver Grove; sisters, Edna Mae Howard of Fort Thomas, Rita Jackson of Florence and Marie Wolfzorn of Highland Heights; 32 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Edna Hammond Thompson, 93, of Louisville, died Saturday at Summerfield Manor in Louisville. She was a homemaker and a member of Ornsby Heights Baptist Church, Louisville.
Her husband, Woodrow "Woodie" Thompson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Billy Walker Thompson of Louisville; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth M. Traylor, 88, of Newport, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Silver Grove and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Boone of Florence; sons, Dean Traylor, Gary Traylor and Robert Traylor, all of Fort Thomas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Frank S. Witte, 72, of Cold Spring, died Friday at his residence. He was a tool and die maker for Wadsworth Electric Co. and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Silver Grove Masonic Lodge No. 916.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Witte; daughters, Donna Hale of Cold Spring and Barbara Wood of Alexandria; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
