Hazel M. Reik, "full-time' Reds fan
During baseball season, Hazel M. Reik was a fixture in the press room overlooking Riverfront Stadium. But she wasn't a reporter.
She was the mother of William J. Reik, a limited partner of the Cincinnati Reds. She dressed in red before every home game and listened to sports radio whenever the team played out of town.
"A Cincinnati Reds fan - that's what she did full-time," said Reik, of New York City, in a telephone interview Monday from his room at the Quality Hotel Riverview in Covington. "She never missed a home game until she got ill."
Mrs. Reik, a lifelong Fort Thomas resident, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was 86.
Reik said his mother watched the Reds long before he became part-owner in 1985. When he did, he could count on her to be at every game and, when he was out of town and could not get a game on the radio, Mrs. Reik would put the telephone to the radio to let him hear.
"My dad always loved them (the Reds), she loved them, and it was fun for her," said Reik, Mrs. Reik's only son and the director of Frisch's restaurants.
Besides being a professional fan, Mrs. Reik was a homemaker and a long-time volunteer at St. Luke Hospital East. Her husband, William J. Reik, preceded her in death.
Other survivors include a grandson and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Fort Thomas' Charles Martin, renowned art director, ad executive
Charles Thomas Martin, former president and owner of Stockton-West-Burkhart, once Cincinnati's largest advertising agency, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital, Fort Thomas.
Mr. Martin, of Fort Thomas, celebrated his 90th birthday in February at a party hosted by his children and grandchildren at the Metropolitan Club.
"He was a wonderful father and grandfather," said his daughter, Mary Carroll Gunderman.
The Covington native graduated from Holmes High School, studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and at the Art Students League at the Grand Central Academy in New York.
He started his own advertising art studio in 1932 in Cincinnati, and later joined Stockton-West-Burkhart where he ultimately became owner, president and chairman of the board. The firm's major clients included the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., Cincinnati Bell Telephone, Central Trust Bank, U.S. Shoe Co. and the Andrew Jergens Co.
The agency pioneered in sponsoring and developing talent for early national and local radio shows. Among those talents were Walter Winchell, Rosemary and Betty Clooney, Red Barber and Waite Hoyt, Ruth Lyons and Bob Braun.
The agency also was a major sponsor of Cincinnati Reds baseball games for the Hudepohl Brewing Co. on radio and television.
Mr. Martin was considered the dean of Cincinnati art directors. Ads he directed won scores of first-place national and regional awards. Mr. Martin was instrumental in founding the Cincinnati Art Directors' Club in 1952.
He was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Church in Fort Thomas and provided many volunteer art services for the Catholic press. He was a member of the Queen City Club, the Highland Country Club and many professional and civic organizations.
Mr. Martin's first wife, Mary Jacobs Martin, died in 1972. He then married
her widowed sister, Ruth Louise Jacobs Klett, who died in 1996.
He leaves other children, Thomas G. Martin, of Anderson Township; Peggy Bertelsman and Timothy J. Martin, of Fort Thomas and Mary Declan Loussaert, of Wixom, Mich; two stepchildren, Robert J. Klett, of San Francisco, and Michael G. Klett, of Shillington, Pa; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Fannie Ellis Adamson, 73, of Mount Olivet, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker, a former employee of the Dr. Scholl's Manufacturing Co., and a member of Mount Olivet Christian Church. She was foster mother to 18 children. A foster son, Paul Tyson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Earl T. "Tom" Adamson; a daughter, Patricia Cummins of Lexington; a son, Larry Adamson of Mount Olivet; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.
J.B. Asher, 65, of Williamstown, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday at his residence.

Joyce Lane Webber Collier, 47, of Berry, died Monday at her home. She was a legal secretary with Miller, Griffin & Marks law firm in Lexington, and was a member of Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County.
Survivors include her husband, J. D. Collier; a son, Scott Collier of Harrison County; daughters, Michelle Collier, Christie Collier, Alexis Tae Webber and Jennifer Paige Webber, all of Harrison County; her parents, Cecil Lee and Georgina Cloe Webber of Berry; sisters, Judy Webber Franklin of Lexington, Janet Lee Webber and Connie Mae Webber, both of Harrison County; a brother, Cecil Thomas Webber of Harrison County; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Antioch Mills Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Clarence Cummins, 78, of Crittenden, died Monday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown.

Rosemary K. Dearwester, 80, of Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Park Hills, died Saturday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, New Smyrna Beach; the Council of Catholic Women and the International Bowling Conference.
Survivors include sons, Allen Dearwester of Fruitland Park, Fla., David Dearwester of Edgewater, Fla., William Dearwester of New Smyrna Beach and Marc Dearwester of Orange City, Fla.; daughters, Emily Morris of Doha, Qatar, and Roseanne Holder of Summerfield, Fla.; brothers, William Kloeker of Covington, Carroll Kloeker of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Matthew Kloeker of Edgewood, Mark Kloeker of Crescent Springs and John Kloeker of Independence; sisters, Mary Jo Kiely and Natalie Gosney, both of Independence, and Mirella Fulmer of Norwood, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Walter "Hank" Hagedorn, 61, of Southgate, died Sunday at his home. He was a custodian with Southgate Schools.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Hagedorn; sons, David Hagedorn of London, Ohio, Michael Hagedorn of Bellevue, Lance Hagedorn and Brian Hagedorn, both of Southgate; his father, Walter Hagedorn of Cincinnati; sisters, Marlene Jones and Joyce Jones, both of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Alma May Lockhart, 87, of Latonia, died Monday at Hospice of Cincinnati.

Mary Conn Myers, 91, of Bellevue, died at 9 a.m. Monday at her home. She was a retired nurse's aide with William Booth Memorial Hospital, Covington, and worked with Wright Aeronautical, Cincinnati. Her husband, Charles P. Myers, died in 1970.
Survivors include a sister, Lucille Lawther of Cleveland.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Ethel "Marie" Perry, 77, of Independence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired assembly worker with Western Paper Goods, Cincinnati. Her husband, Oliver "Pete" Perry, died in 1994.
Survivors include sisters, Kathryn Kitchen of Bellevue and Batty Marsico of Bonifay, Fla.

Louis Paul Terhaar, 68, of Huntington, Ind., formerly of Newport, died Nov. 13 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a retired Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and formerly worked for the McAlpin's department store in Florence.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Farthing Terhaar; sons, Louis Terhaar Jr., Richard Terhaar and Anthony Terhaar, all of Newport; a daughter, Mary Terhaar of Newport; stepsons, Kent Farthing, Rick Farthing, Gary Farthing and Mark Farthing, all of Huntington, Ind., and Ron Farthing of Monroe, Ind.; stepdaughters, Linda Denman, Sue Mygrant and Donna Pierson, all of Huntington, Ind., and Carol Wyatt of Markle, Ind.; a brother, Leo Terhaar of Silver Grove; sisters, Edna Mae Howard of Fort Thomas, Rita Jackson of Florence and Marie Wolfzorn of Highland Heights; 32 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Carrie E. Vater, 77, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights.
Survivors include a sister, Viola Rahe of Alexandria; and a brother, Byron Vater of Cincinnati.

Marian Frances Weibel, 78, of Fort Thomas, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired waitress with Rust Restaurant, Newport, and Town and Country Restaurant, Park Hills, and a member of the St. Jude League, Chicago. Her husband, Joseph G. Weibel, died in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lorri Weibel of Fort Thomas; and sisters, Ruth Menninger of Fort Thomas and Eileen Myers of Highland Heights.
