Alice DeArmond, taught 20 years at Boone County Vocational School
Alice Vandetta DeArmond was a student of life whose legacy will be the love and attention she showered on her pupils.
Mrs. DeArmond spent 20 years as a teacher with the Boone County Vocational School.
She began work shortly after the school opened and taught health services.
"We couldn't go into a business or restaurant without running into former students. They really liked her," said Mrs. DeArmond's husband of 27 years, Claude L. DeArmond.
"They would come to her with their problems and she would talk to them like a counselor. She really got to know her students one on one."
Mrs. DeArmond, 60, of Florence, died Thursday at her home.
She also had been a registered nurse with Grant County Hospital.
She was a member of Florence Baptist Church and a pianist with Florence United Methodist Church.
Mrs. DeArmond was raised in Latonia and graduated from the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and Eastern Kentucky University.
She was a church pianist for 15 years.
"She was soft-spoken and easygoing. But what she said, she put a lot of thought into," Mr. DeArmond said. "She was active in the women's ministry."
Other survivors include daughters, Alyce Glenn of Florence and Leslie Ogle of Greenville, Tenn.; a son, Martin Souder of Owenton; and five grandchildren. A brother, William Harold Martin, died Aug. 13.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Florence Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Zuma Bias, 97, of Newport, died Thursday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Mason County Homemakers in Maysville.
Survivors include sons, Mason Bias of Newport and Robert S. Bias of Fort Myers, Fla.; and a daughter, Euneva Mustard of Vanceburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville.
Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Maysville.
Sonja Dee Cardenas, 32, of Bedford, Texas, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Bert Cardenas; a son, Michael Rigney of Ludlow; a daughter, Chelsea Cardenas of Bedford; her mother, Sandra Williams of Florence; a brother, Eric Williams of Florence; and a grandmother, Dolores Stratton of Elsmere.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Curtis Chambers, 83, of Harrison County, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Rev. Woodrow W. High, 83, of Augusta, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was an associate pastor of Minerva Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Three infant daughters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Al ice Mae Hutchinson High; daughters, Carol Jean Nutt of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Kay Taylor of Anaheim, Calif.; sons, Kenneth Earl High of Norwalk, Calif., Danny High of New Haven, Miss., and Rev. Roger High of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Mary England and Naomi Ruf, both of Augusta, Catherine Mains of Indiana and Wilma Jones of Foster; a brother, Arthur High of Augusta; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Bracken County.

Virginia A. Lewis Ilg, 94, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Paul P. Ilg Sr., died in 1971.
A daughter, Harlien Voges, and sons, Fredrick Ilg and Paul Ilg Jr., all preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Bobbie Boehmer of Alexandria, Ginny Eddy of Dayton and Dolly Schuh of Covington; 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Bernard "Bird Dog" Merrill, 70, of Newport, died Wednesday at his home.
He was a bottler with Pepsi-Cola Bottlers of Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Merrill; sons, Kenneth Lee Merrill of Southgate and Michael Lee Merrill of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Kathie Lee Hudson of Newport; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. at Radel Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Earl Miller, 81, of Erlanger, died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday at Florence Park Care Center, Burlington.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Jack Rabe, 57, of Union, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was in marketing at Western Southern Life Insurance Co.
He also was a member of First Church of Christ in Burlington and the American Veterans and was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Terrie E. Schneider Rabe of Union; a son, Jason C. Rabe of Augusta; a stepson, Rod J. Cope of Burlington; a daughter, Cindy T. Mulcahy of Verona; step daughters, Denise C. Caruthers of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Missy A. Cope of Union; brothers, Ron Rabe of Union, Robert Rabe of Covington, Tom Rabe of Burlington and Dave Rabe of Sparta; sisters, Nancy Hicks of Erlanger and Connie Hughes of Independence; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Church of Christ, Burlington.
Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Robert H. Sutton, 69, of Covington, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia, after an extended illness. He was a former member of Warsaw First Baptist Church.
Survivors include sisters, Gladys Stewart and Alene Herndon, both of Warsaw, Ann Von Luehrte of Edgewood, Grace House and Evelyn Rea, both of Florence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at noon Sunday. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.

Florence Wilking, 96, formerly of Ludlow, died at 7:08 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
