Harriet Holocher Ives, artist-entrepreneur

Harriet F. Holocher Ives, a Northern Kentucky native whose family is dedicated to public service, was a generous, outgoing woman who ran her own business.

Mrs. Ives grew up in Covington and Fort Mitchell and later moved to Glen Ellyn, Ill., with her husband, Dennis Ives.

She was an artist and ran her own business called Personnette, which incorporated names into designs for pictures sold at gift shops.

"She was very energetic and enthusiastic. She made friends easily and was a great conversationalist," Mr. Ives said.

"She was cherished by a lot of people," her husband said.

"Everyone who knew her liked her."

Mrs. Ives, 61, of Glen Ellyn, Ill., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Monday at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.

She was a past president of the Glenbard South High School Boosters organization and the St. James the Apostle Church Mr. and Mrs. Club of Wheaton, Ill.

She was actively involved in the church CCW program and was president of the Early Bird Golf League.

A daughter, Mary Ives, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ives' brothers and sisters have been dedicated to public service in her native region.

A brother, Thomas Holocher, is the mayor of Fort Mitchell, while her sister, Mary Koenig, serves on the Villa Hills City Council.

Mrs. Ives was very athletic, her husband said. She played golf and tennis and walked four miles a day.

A daughter, Melissa Wichhart, of Naperville, Ill., is now running her mother's business.

"She did everything right. She was dedicated to her church," Mr. Ives said.

Other survivors include sons, Michael Ives of Chesapeake, Va., and Martin Ives of Naperville, Ill.; her mother, Celestia Neff of Villa Hills; brothers, Dale Holocher, of Fort Mitchell, William Holocher of Villa Hills and Jeffrey Holocher of Westminster, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon CDT Friday at St. James the Apostle Church in Wheaton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Williams Kampp Funeral Home, Wheaton. Prayers will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wheaton.

Memorials are suggested to Illinois Chapter of National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, P. O. Box 6023, Naperville, Ill. 60567.

Lorraine Ard, 47, of Newport, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Temple, Melbourne.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Ard; daughters, Bobbie Jo Hallman of Park Hills and Robin Ard of Newport; sisters, Ann Akers and Virginia Patterson, both of Newport; brothers, Raymond Stull of Independence, Gary Stull of Burlington, Tom Stull and Daryl Stull, both of Newport, and Jerry Stull of Franklin, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Temple, Melbourne. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Neave Cemetery, Bracken County. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.

Catherine Ruh Bahr, 88, of Villa Hills, died at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Thomas F. Bahr, died in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Bahr of Villa Hills; sons, Donald R. Bahr of Tampa, Fla., and Curt Bahr of Independence; a foster son, Pedro J. Fernandes of Tampa; nine grandchildren, two foster-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Catherine Ruh Bahr Fund, 930 Highland Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

William C. Brown, 47, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a former employee of Interlake Steel Co., Newport, and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Lelia Mitchell Brown; sons, Christopher Brown, William Brown and Maurice Brown, all of Covington; a daughter, Adonica Brown Mack of Covington; sisters, Theresa Jones, Laura Fluker, Gloria Siffel, Linda Brown, Mae Ruth Dierig and Annette Howard, all of Covington; his stepmother, Bessie Benson of Newport; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Unity Community Christian Church, Covington. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Gladys Moorhead Downard, 92, of Brooksville, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday at Extenda Care, Augusta. She was a homemaker and a member of Brooksville Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a choir member and the church pianist. Her husband, John A. Downard, died in 1984.

Survivors include nieces, Martha Schoeff of Moores Hill, Ind., Virginia Bravard and Geraldine McGeorge, both of Brooksville, Dorothy Doan of Nicholasville and Zelma Wood King of Falmouth; and nephews, Roger Vennefron of Fairfield, Ohio, L. D. Ransom of Dillsboro, Ind., Harold William Downard and Robert Downard, both of Brooksville, and Gaylord Morris Jr. of Crestview Hills.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville. Memorials are suggested to Brooksville Baptist Church, Brooksville, Ky. 41004; or Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Walter E. Elam, 65, of Verona, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanely Funeral Home, Verona.

Ron J. Herndon, 54, of Independence, died at 7:53 p.m. Monday at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati. He was the administration financial manager with Four C's Inc., Cincinnati, a member of the Cincinnati Corvette Club and an Air Force veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Christina Nemekis of Erlanger; a sister, Padgee Rich of Covington; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Burns Institute, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Eva A. K. Jordan, 74, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Jordan, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Yvonne Kim Choy and Winnie Rivera, both of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Janet Lee Londeree, Donna Kay Tomlin and Heidi Kay Fields, all of Covington; step-daughters, Gloria Jean Billingsley of Perry City, Iowa, and Stephanie James Poston of Honolulu; stepsons, William Jordan Jr., Clyde Anakaleia and Walter Lindsey, all of Hawaii; a sister, Ethelyn Perry of Las Vegas and Christopher Ano of Kaui, Hawaii; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hampton Funeral Home, Barbourville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Farley Cemetery, Himyar, Ky.

Bessie Malone, 68, of Newport, died Monday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington.

Elizabeth K. Moyer, 94, of Maysville, died at 8 a.m. Monday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a homemaker, a charter member of Mason County Homemakers, and a past president of the Tuckahoe Homemakers. A son, Peyton Moyer, and a daughter, Jean Akin, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, William Moyer of Maysville; five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.

Mark A. "Peanut" Richie, 30, of Berry, was found dead at 5:30 a.m. Sunday after a fire at his home. He was a heavy-equipment operator for Richie Backhoe Service, Berry, and a member of Kentucky Land Improvement Contractors Association and Kentucky On Site Waste Water Association. He was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Deah Turner Richie; daughters, Mandy Richie and Caity Richie, both of Berry, and Casey Richie of Williamstown; a stepdaughter, Jodi March of Erlanger; his parents, David and Linda Evans Richie of Berry; brothers, Andy Richie of Berry and Daniel Richie of Williamstown; and grandparents, Nora Richie True of Corinth, and Edwin and Eunice Evans of Kittery Point, Maine.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Corinth.

Ralph E. Robinson, 71, of Frankfort, died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was the former manager of Frankfort Country Club, a restaurant owner, and an employee of Veterans Administration Unemployment Services.

Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Robinson; daughters, Tammy Hurst and Teresa Yagel, both of Frankfort; sons, Michael E. Robinson of Frankfort and Johnny Ray Robinson of Villa Hills; a sister, Betty Howerton of Frankfort; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home, Frankfort. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery, Frankfort. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Marcella E. Schwierjohann Schowalter, 80, of Dayton, died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas. She was a cafeteria supervisor with Western & Southern Life Insurance Co., and a member of the 55 Club at St. Bernard's Church in Dayton. Her husband, Wilbur Schowalter, died in 1970.

Survivors include sons, Thomas Schowalter of Dayton and William Schowalter of Taylor Mill; a sister, Rita Bittner of Cincinnati; brothers, Frank Schwierjohann of Crestview Hills, Leo Schwierjohann of Highland Heights and William Schwierjohann of Silver Grove; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard Church, 5th and Berry Sts., Dayton, Ky. 41074.

Corinne Peggy Varner, 84, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a member of Cynthiana Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gratton Varner; a daughter, Brenda Anderson of Bourbon County; a brother, Gorver Howard Beckett of Lawrenceburg; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Margaret Wendle, 92, of Highland Heights, died Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a retired secretary with ADT, Cincinnati. There are no immediate survivors.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
