Betty Mae Lambert, loving mom, lifetime Girl Scout
Betty Mae Lambert of Florence was a registered Girl Scout for 60 years.
She helped organize the Florence Coun cil of Girl Scouts during the 1960s and, over the years, served as a troop leader for some 200 girls in Kentucky and Indiana.
"We used to have cookouts in our back yard," said a daughter, Virginia Lambert of Florence. "She always had a love for chil dren."
A Girl Scout honor guard will play "Taps" at the funeral for Mrs. Lambert, who died Monday at her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Lambert was born and reared in Fort Wayne, Ind., and joined the scouts when she was 13. She was a scout leader in Fort Wayne before moving to Cincinnati to work as a waitress at Union Terminal.
Mrs. Lambert then began working as a pastry and salad girl at the former Nether land Hilton, where she met her husband. Robert William Lambert was a chef.
As a homemaker, she was a member of the Family Alliance of Northern Kentucky and was very involved in Florence Chris tian Church, where she was a deaconess and member of Church Women United.
"She was a very spiritual woman," said her daughter. "She had great faith in God, even until the very end.
"She died at home. Those were her wishes, and she was very peaceful when she died. I was with her.
"I'm thankful that I had a mother who took me to church all her life."
Betty Mae and Robert Lambert had been married
36 years when he died in 1991.
Survivors also include a son, James W. Lambert of Florence; daughters, Sharon Lambert of Verona, Alice Banks of Dayton and Julia Doucette of Burlington; sisters, Mary Bell of Pierceton, Ind., and Patricia Keck of Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, Fred Jenkins of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home in Florence. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Arnold H. Beck, 82, of Alexandria, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired employee of the Campbell County Board of Education and a farm er.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Beck; daughters, Margaret Perry and Diana Mote, both of Alexandria; a brother, Dave Beck of Williamstown; three grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1 N. Jefferson St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.
Frances Spann Berkemeier, of Burlington, died Tuesday at her home after an extended illness. She was a hostess and receptionist with Triple Crown Country Club, Boone County.
Survivors include her hus band, Jerry Berkemeier; sons, Tony Berkemeier of Crittenden, Danny Berkemeier of Independence, Rod Berkemeier of Mount Zion and Kevin Berkemeier of Burlington; a sister, June Parmely of Miamisburg, Ohio; a brother, Glenn Brunner of Beech Grove; seven grandchildren and one great-grand child.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Big Bone Baptist Church, Boone County. Memorials are suggested to Hos pice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.
Elva "Buddy" Hunter, 64, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was an Air Force veteran, a member of Ohio Operating Engineers Local No. 18, Cincinnati, and a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include sons, William Hunter, Elva Hunter Jr. and Russell Hunter, all of Cincinnati; daughters, Darlene Cooper of Covington, Kelly Hunter, Yzonne Hunter, Jennifer Anderson and Theresa Hunter, all of Cincinnati; brothers, David Hunter of Dayton, Ohio, John Howard Hunter of Detroit, Richard Hunter of Covington and Danny Joyner of Cincinnati; sisters, Luther Robinson and Mary Jane Lewis, both of Covington, Rosetta Hudleston of Florida, Doris Crofford, Pricilla Williams and Ann Margaret McComico, all of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Thursday, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones & Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Charles E. Kirk, 76, of Newport, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired overhead crane operator with Interlake Steel, Newport.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Kirk; daughters, Anna Mae Deaton and Estile Rose, both of Newport; stepdaughters, Elizabeth McFarlain of Covington, Tammy McQueary and Donna McQueary, both of Newport; a son, Charles Kirk Jr. of Newport; stepsons, Harold Carpenter and James Carpenter, both of Newport; brothers, Ike Kirk of Dayton, Clarence Kirk of Bellevue and Henry Kirk of Falmouth; 13 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Theodore R. Roberts, 48, of Dayton, died Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. He was a cab driver with Community Cab Co., Elsmere.
Survivors include a daughter, Stella Howard of Covington; a brother, Lester Roberts of Newport; a sister, Velma Smith of Dayton; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to Theodore Roberts Burial Fund, P. O. Box 34, Butler, Ky. 41006. Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.
Ruby Sponsler, 74, of Amelia, Ohio, formerly of Alexandria, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harry H. Sponsler, died in 1985.
Survivors include daughters, Rubyann Howard of Azusa, Calif., and Helen Racke of Alexandria; a son, Edward Waag of Loveland, Ohio; sisters, Kathleen Cross of Amelia, Ohio, Hazel Losite and Della Shubert, both of Cincinnati; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
