Machinist Earl Murphy, activist voter
Earl W. Murphy did not take lightly his role in the legislative process.
The Erlanger man was passionate about Kentucky politics, and routinely wrote to his state and Congressional representatives to offer his opinions on issues.
"He wrote to them about anything he didn't think was right or wanted them to approve," said his wife, Rose Murphy.
Mr. Murphy died at 9:50 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. He was 78.
The retired machinist with the Avery-Cross Co. in Covington grew up in Peaselburg and went to Holmes High School.
He met his wife in 1941, and they married
in 1943. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and stationed in the South Pacific.
After about 3 1/2 years, Mr. Murphy returned and went to work as a machinist for Avery-Cross, where he was president of the company's union. He worked for the company for more than 30 years, his wife said.
He and his wife had five children.
In his free time, Mr. Murphy enjoyed reading fiction and history. He also was a member of Elsmere American Legion Post No. 20 and St. Henry Church in Elsmere.
Other survivors include sons, Dennis Murphy of Elsmere and Timothy Murphy of Florence; daughters, Patricia Kelly of Cincinnati, Joyce School of Florence and Donna Huesing of Edgewood; a brother, James Murphy of Jeffersonville, Ind.; sisters, Louise Hoskins of Dayton, Ohio, and Eileen Hurst of Paradise, Calif.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Charles R. Carpenter Jr., 35, of Cincinnati, died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Kitty Spicer Carpenter; a stepdaughter, Tina Mounce of Indianapolis; his parents, Virginia and Charles Carpenter of Moorpark, Calif.; and sisters, Sarah Anne Banks of Moorpark and Patricia Anne Carpenter of Simi Valley, Calif.
Services will be at noon Thursday at St. Lawrence Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. David Michael Denzy, 30, of New Lenox, Ill., formerly of Taylor Mill, died of cancer Aug. 9 at Lutheran General Hospital, New Lenox. He was a senior client-acquisition specialist with USN Communications, and a former Airtouch Cellular employee locally. He was a member of St. Jude Church, New Lenox.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Dunne Denzy; daughters Bailey Denzy and Olivia Denzy; a son, David Denzy; his parents, Albert and Barbara Schildmiller Denzy; sisters, Kathy Incopero and Kris Medrano; a brother, Michael Denzy; grandparents, Robert and Loretta Rabka Schildmiller; and great-grandmother, Helen Rabka.

James T. Dickson, 87, of Covington, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired truck driver with Hudepohl Brewery, Cincinnati, was a construction worker on the Short Way Bridge between Covington and Newport, and was a member of Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Theresa McDermott Dickson, died in 1976.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Albert McDermott of Latonia; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Braun of Ludlow; and a niece, Vera Hicks of Villa Hills. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home. Ruby Fay Grubbs, 87, of Latonia, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker. A daughter, Irene McKee, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Walter McMahan of Latonia; two grandchildren, seven great-
grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Louise M. Halvorson, 66, of Fort Mitchell, died at 8:41 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Warren A. Halvorson; sons, Doug W. Halvorson of Fort Mitchell and Jim S. Halvorson of Benton; daughters, Cindy L. Carter of Henton and Judy L. Tarvin of Covington; her stepmother, Eleanor Carroll of Newport; a sister, Sarah Washington of Covington; brothers, Orrin Carroll of Burlington and Paul Carroll of Dayton; and four grandchildren.

Dalton Elmer Henneberg, 82, of Taylor Mill, died at 10:23 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired freight agent with TWA, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Ward Henneberg; daughters, Earlene Norris of Atlanta and Nellene Whitley of Taylor Mill; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Larry M. Mullins, 55, of Walton, died Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was a retired exterminator with Scherzinger Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include a brother, Jesse G. Mullins of Middlesburg, Fla.; sisters, Marsella Johns of Walton and Marjorie Johns of Cincinnati.

Benjamin F. Richardson Sr., 68, of Park Hills, died Friday at his home. He was a retired furniture salesman with area Value City stores. His wife, Mary E. Zupcic Richardson, died in 1986.
Survivors include sons, Brad T. Richardson and Brian C. Richardson, both of Park Hills, Ben F. Richardson Jr. of Verona, Robert C. Forest C. Roberts, 74, of Walton, died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was a truck driver, a member of Caution Lodge No. 798 F&AM of Kentucky, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Wilma Lea Ryle, 63, of Burlington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Burlington Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Ryle; sons, Greg Ryle of Burlington and Kerry Ryle of Hebron; a daughter, Paula Lea Smiley of Burlington; a half-sister, Agnes Marie Scott of Belleview; and seven grandchildren.

Paul H. Sagraves Jr., 72, of Florence, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was an electrical estimator with Denier Electric Co. in Ross, Ohio, and a member of Aurora Lodge No. 48 F&AM, Scottish Rite, and Elk Lodge No. 5. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edna M. Sagraves; a son, Thomas Sagraves of Cincinnati; his father, Paul H. Sagraves Sr.; brothers, Albert Sagraves, Johnny Sagraves, Ronnie Sagraves and David Sagraves; and four grandchildren.

Orpha Vadis Simpson, 83, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a nurses' aide in the hospital nursery and a member of Florence Baptist Church. Her husband, James Simpson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Cruey of Dry Ridge.

Stephen H. Spencer, 87, of Erlanger, died at 10:35 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired machinist with Ford Motor Corp., Cincinnati, and a member of Robert Burns Masonic Lodge No. 163, Newport. His wife, Shirley E. Lamb Spencer, died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Stephen H. Spencer Jr. of Elsmere; a daughter, Linda Schwartz of Erlanger; brothers, Clifton Spencer of Covington, Ornia Spencer of Lee County, Ky., and Mose Spencer of New Baltimore, Mich.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thomas "Leroy" Taylor, 75, of Cold Spring, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired employee of Carlisle Construction Co. and a member of St. John Community Church, Wilder.

John "Buddy" Vogt, 85, of Bromley, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired office manager with Ashcraft Mobile Homes, Ludlow.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Riley Vogt; a brother, Douglas Vogt of Covington; sisters, Mary Lannigan and JoAnn Kennedy, both of Covington, and Bernett McDine of Edgewood.
