Rosamond Mann, Pendleton teacher
Rosamond Elizabeth Mann taught English and French in the Pendleton County school system.
"She was a very fine teacher," said Richard Gulick, former superintendent of Pendleton County schools. "She was from the old school and she demanded attention. She had a good rapport with kids."
Mrs. Mann, 80, of Williamstown, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She retired from teaching after 29 years of service. She also taught at the Butler, Mount Auburn and Goforth schools. But most of her career was spent at Pendleton County High School.
Mrs. Mann was a member of Roanoke Christian Church in Pendleton County, the Roanoke Willing Workers, and the Retired Teachers Association.
"She was just an all-around fine person," Mr. Gulick said.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil Mann; sons, Ronnie Mann of Dry Ridge, Larry Joe Mann of Crittenden and Gary Mann of Butler; daughters, Phyllis Florence of Fort Thomas and Debbie McCandless of Williamstown; a brother, Joe Florence Jr. of Florence; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roanoke Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County. Kenneth Ray Baird, 41, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Alexandria, died Aug. 26 at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Danville. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Ratliff Baird; a son, Daniel Baird of Falmouth; daughters, Regina Baird and Crystal Baird, both of Falmouth; stepsons, Rocky Tucker of Alexandria and Gary Grant Ratliff of Newport; stepdaughters, Charla Messer of Alexandria and Kelly Ann Tucker of Newport; brothers, Johnny Baird of Cold Spring and Stanley Baird of Alexandria; one grandchild and 14 step-grandchildren.
Services were Friday at Harmon's Lick Church of God, Garrard County. Burial was in Prewitt Cemetery, Berea. Williams Funeral Home, Berea, handled arrangements.
Anna Brown, 80, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Monday at Hospice of Cincinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
Lottie Gail Cole, 45, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, of a heart attack. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Cole; sons, James Alex Cole and Jason Dwayne Cole, both of Newport; a foster son, Dennis Lee Stonestreet of Newport; brother, Bill Hardin of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and James Hardin of Pikeville; a half-brother, Marshall Hardin of Louisville; sisters, Peggy Doris Daugherty of Lorain, Ohio, and Jeanette Blankenship and Wanda Gaye Chapman, both of Pikesville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Breathitt Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. today. Burial will be in Alex Dale Cole Cemetery, Turner's Creek.
Nathan Kane Griffith, newborn son of Jesse Griffith and Sharee Clark, both of Florence, died Friday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include grandparents, Andy and Brenda Alsip of Walton, Greg Clark of Bellevue, and Bonnie Kelly of Petersburg; and great-grandparents, Gwen Ard of Walton and Katherine Griffith of Petersburg.
Graveside services were Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, handled arrangements.
Shelby Johnson, 76, of Highland Heights, died Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a retired, self-employed barber and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Johnson; a daughter, Gloria Sisk of Newport; a sister, Ida Griffith of Hamilton, Ohio; brothers, Alfred Johnson and Howard Johnson, both of London, Ky., and Charles Johnson Jr. of Cincinnati; and one grandson.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today at at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. today. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dunn Cemetery, London.
Iva Emma Lantry, 95, of Covington, died Monday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a homemaker.
Her sons, Paul Holloway and Norman Holloway, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Emma Jean Coffey of Indialantic, Fla.; sons, Roy Edward Holloway of Lakeland, Fla., and Bill Holloway of Corinth; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Laura Virginia Lodge, 70, of Falmouth, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lodge of Falmouth; a sister, Anna Mae Newkirk of Falmouth; and a brother, Robert Lodge of Butler.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Falmouth Baptist Church, 403 Maple St., Falmouth, Ky. 410140.
Jim Lynn, 44, of Owenton, died Sunday night on New Liberty Turnpike in Owen County of a gunshot wound. He was a horse trainer and a member of Owenton First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Estes Lynn; daughters, Jimi Sue Lynn, Teena Marie Lynn, Mary Helen Lynn and Dotey Ann Lynn, all of Owenton; his mother, Helen Nix Lynn of Owenton; and a sister, Pat Beverly of Owenton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street location, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Margaret McGough, 77, of Southgate, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a clerk with Golden Towers Retirement Home, was a member of Citizens Advocacy Group, and a volunteer with Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.
Gilbert B. Menkhaus, 85, Park Hills, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday at Deaconess Hospital Vitas Hospice Unit, Cincinnati. He was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, a member of Holy Name Society of St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright, and a longtime secretary of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch No. 374. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Norma E. Schaller Menkhaus; sons, Joseph B. Menkhaus and Martin G. Menkhaus, both of Fort Mitchell, and Paul G. Menkhaus of Kallispell, Mont.; a brother, Frank Menkhaus of Latonia; sisters, Grace Perez of Covington and Florence Burke of Fort Wright; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church. A reception will follow Mass in the church undercroft. Visitation will be from 4 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. James M. Spare, 47, of Florida, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Friday in Anchorage, Alaska.
Survivors include a daughter, Michell Robinson of Cincinnati; his father, Delbert Spare of Fort Wright; brothers, Don Spare of Fort Wright, David Spare of Hebron and Mark Spare of Cocoa, Fla.; and sisters, Carol Buring of Independence, Marcia Deters, Susan Smeltzer, Paula Ritter and Melissa Baeten, all of Burlington.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Homer A. Watson, 82, of Florence, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired employee of General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Watson; and sisters, Nora Hart and Lela Watson, both of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hart Funeral Home, Corbin. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Corbin. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling local arrangements.
