Ethel E. Eckert, loved to dance

Ethel E. Eckert lived to be 90. She didn't smoke or drink and danced well into her 80s.

"She used to do the Charleston. She loved music and loved to dance," said a daughter, Betty Buchanan of Highland Heights.

Mrs. Eckert, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Elmer Eckert, died in 1995. A son, Franklin Poe, died in 1991.

Mrs. Eckert raised 10 children and was an excellent cook. She was strict but worked very hard and instilled closeness among her children, Mrs. Buchanan said.

"She loved her kids and her family and we are all close," Mrs. Buchanan said. "And she made the best raspberry cobbler."

Other survivors include daughters, Patricia Key, of Highland Heights, Helen Bonhaus of Dayton and Linda Steinhauer of Alexandria; sons, James Poe of Demossville, Charles Poe, Jerry Poe and William Poe, all of Newport; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Mabel Day Belew, 93, of Williamstown, died Thursday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Wilma O'Neill and Sue Duddey, both of Dry Ridge, and Betty Snow of Florence; stepdaughters, Wanda Riddle of Florence and Brenda Chapman of Berea; stepsons, Wendle Belew of Akin, S.C., Marvin Belew of Knoxville, Tenn., and Charles Day of Arkansas; a sister, Christine Skirvin of Dry Ridge; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Monday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Smith Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Lorraine Z. Brinker, 97, of Covington, died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was a retired bank teller with Security Savings and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church Ladies Society and St. Gamma Guild. Her husband, John Brinker, died in 1978.

Survivors include nephews, Walter Heupel of Erlanger and Donald Markey of La Puente, Calif.; and nieces, Mary Margaret Cole of Lakeside Park, Monica Tsoras of Erlanger and Ann Schieve of Fort Mitchell.

Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Charles Care Center. Burial was in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Bertha Alma Conn, 91, of Burlington, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and attended Burlington Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include daughters, Zanda Walls of Burlington and Connie Caddell of Erlanger; sons, Danny Conn of Joplin, Mo., Thomas Conn of Monticello and Charlie Conn of Cincinnati; a sister, Goldie Euette of Summerville, Ga.; a half-brother, Gradie King of Summerville; 34 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Burial was in Burlington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Burlington Pentecostal Church, 3035 Torrid St., Burlington, Ky. 41005.

Hilda Virginia Cooke, 73, of Independence, died Thursday at her home. She was a former telephone operator with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a former clerk with Wilson's Department Store, Independence. She was a member of St. Cecilia Church, Independence.

Survivors include her husband, Waymon P. Cooke; a son, Bryson Cooke of Morning View; daughters, Janet Halker of Cincinnati, Barb Bach of Morning View, Brenda Tunstall, Robin Shipwash and Sherrie Heringer, all of Independence, and Margie Ankenbauer of Florence; a brother, Richard Elbert of Independence; a sister, Jackie Collopy of Edgewood; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Kidney Foundation, 2330 Victory Parkway East, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206; Juvenile Diabetes Association, 10901 Reed Hartman Highway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242; American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011; or St. Cecilia Church Building Fund, 5313 Madison Pike, Independence, Ky. 41051.

Ronnie Jessie Craft Jr., 21, of Crittenden, died Wednesday in an auto accident on U.S. 25 near Sherman.

Survivors include his parents, Ronnie Jessie Craft Sr. and Kathleen Craft of Dry Ridge; sisters, Missy Hacker and Katie Craft, both of Dry Ridge, and Christy Craft of New Richmond, Ohio; and grandparents, John and Martha Sears of Manchester.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Sherman Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Saturday. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.

Tilden "Tuck" Florence, 85, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. He was a retired auto mechanic and a member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, Cynthiana. His wife, Gladys Dean Whalen Florence, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Fred Florence of Harrison County; a stepson, James McParton of Lexington; a daughter, Dorothy Eckler of Covington; a stepdaughter, Kay Len of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Clark of Harrison County; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Harrison County.

Shelley Lainhart, 42, of Dayton, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her parents, Wanda Brock of Dayton and Donald Lainhart of Hebron; and a brother, Billy Lainhart of Alexandria.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Kids Helping Kids, 6070 Branch Hill Guinea Pike, Milford, Ohio 45150.

Everett "E.C." Latimer, 75, of Williamstown, died at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a farmer and U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fairview Christian Church, Williamstown, where he was a former secretary and deacon. He also was a member of the Grant County Conservation Board for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Souder Latimer; step-sons, Edd R. Switzer of Dry Ridge; Ron J. Switzer of Waurika, Okla., and James Howard Switzer of Williamstown; a step-daughter, Dorothy Joy Valentine of Hartford City, Ind.; a sister, Emogene McClanahan of Williamstown; a brother, Robert Latimer of Williamstown; 9 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be there from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Fairview Christian Church, Fairview Road, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Omer Lou Louden, 71, of Erlanger, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired mechanic with Thomson-MacConnell Cadillac, Cincinnati, and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a brother, Emmitt Louden of Union; a sister, Catherine Hilen of Covington; five daughters and two sons.

Graveside services were this morning at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth McCracken, 78, of Covington, died Wednesday at her home. She was a retired line worker with Kenner Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Immanuel Church of the Nazarene, Highland Heights.

Survivors include daughters, Cybil Ritter and Helen Fletcher, both of Newport, Margaret Allen of Pennsylvania, Cathy Hazel of Southgate and Gloria Nicholas of Covington; sons, Ted McCracken and Alfie McCracken, both of Middleburg, Fla., and Toney McCracken of Taylor Mill; brothers, Jack Dawn and Jim Dawn, both of California, and Doug Dawn of Southgate; sisters, Stella Freeman of Silver Grove, Ruth Wagner of Bellevue, Marie Gaskins of Cincinnati, and Gayle Wanner of Alexandria; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.

Giltner A. Meeks, 80, of Dry Ridge, died at 10 a.m. Thursday at his home after an apparent heart attack.

He was a retired water line inspector for Hurst-Rosche Engineering in Frankfort, Ky., and Bullock Pen Water District, Crittenden. He was a member and elder of the Crittenden Christian Church, Crittenden. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the National Archery Association. He was also a former director of the Kentucky Field Archery Association and past president of the Ponderosa Archery Association. He was also a farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marie Bonar Meeks; a son, Giltner Ernest Meeks of Florence; daughters, Mavis Simpson of Crittenden, Pat Conrad and Barbara Sue Meeks, both of Dry Ridge; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sat urday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be there from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Crittenden Cemetery, Crittenden.

Memorials may be made to the Crittenden Christian Church, Crittenden.

Beatrice Moore, 77, of Covington, died at 6:50 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice North, Covington.

Her husband, Gussie Moore, died in 1977.

Survivors include sons, Robert Moore of Elsmere and William Moore of Covington; brothers, William Cox, Stewart Cox, Ollie Cox and Elmer Cox, all of Covington; sisters, Marie Stephens of Villa Hills, Julie Anderson of Dry Ridge, Joann Cox of Demossville and Margaret Woodward of Florence; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Audrey Jett Paulus, 83, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Runyan Memorial Christian Church, Latonia.

Survivors include a son, John Hamilton McCloud of Covington.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Brooksville Cemetery. Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville, is handling arrangements.

Robert Perkins, 65, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Georgia R. Whalen, 77, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Kirsten G. Haggard Wiley, 33, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a secretary with Thatcher Tubes, Elsmere, and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Florence.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Wiley; a daughter, Ariana Wiley of Florence; a son, Jarrod Wiley of Florence; her mother and stepfather, Elisabeth and Todd Strunk of Taylor Mill; and a sister, Karin Shattuck of Florence.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Sunday. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling arrangements.

Rosemary L. Wolf, 83, of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Pathfinder Seniors Club at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Her husband, Louis B. Wolf, died in 1978.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Gormley of Fort Mitchell; sons, Michael Wolf of Crestview Hills and James L. Wolf of Binghamton, N.Y.; a sister, Marjorie Reardon of Fort Thomas; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
