Paul Frodge was "quiet, gentle, kind'
When his children needed something repaired, Paul E. Frodge fixed it.
When someone with Holy Cross Church needed transportation, Mr. Frodge did the driving.
And when any of his close friends needed company or support during a time of need, he was there. For 10 years, he and his pals met four days a week at the McDonald's in Latonia.
"I called one of them this morning to tell him about Dad, and he just sobbed," said Mr. Frodge's only daughter, Jane A. Levermann of Taylor Mill.
"He was quiet, gentle, kind - just a good man. A very good man."
Mr. Frodge, a long-time Latonia resident, died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. He was 77.
Mr. Frodge's mother died when he was an infant, and he lived with various relatives in Northern Kentucky and Ohio when he was a child. He went to high school in Hamilton, Ohio, before moving to Cincinnati to be with his father.
In 1943, at the age of 22, he married
his wife of 55 years, Margaret E. Collopy Frodge. They had five children.
During World War II, Mr. Frodge worked for an aeronautical company. He tried to enlist in the service, but a ruptured appendix that had not properly healed kept him out of the war.
Later, he took a job as a heating and air conditioning technician with B&B Heating, Plumbing and Air Conditioning Co. in Covington, where he worked for 25 years.
Ms. Levermann remembers her father as an easy-going, gentle man whose favorite past-times included watching wrestling and the "Lawrence Welk Show" on television. He spent many evenings earning extra income parking cars at the old Crosley Field in Cincinnati.
"He never had to raise his voice," she said. "Everybody had enough respect for him that we just did what he wanted."
In 1957, Mr. Frodge, in failing health, retired from B&B and later took up volunteering for his church. He spent about five years as a driver for the church and volunteered to work booths at church festivals.
