Celestine Meese, vice president for Seligman Distribution Co.
Celestine G. "Celly" Meese was known for his devotion to hard work.
"His life was work. He just about worked around the clock," said Mr. Meese's son, Dale.
Mr. Meese, 83, of Fort Wright, died Saturday morning in St. Charles Care Center in Fort Wright.
He was a former vice president of Charles Seligman Distribution Co., Crescent Springs. Mr. Meese became a part owner in the distributing firm and basically operated the company for 10 or 15 years, Ruth Seligman Doering said.
"He was with my father, Charles, for years, back to the 1940s. He was my father's right-hand man," Ms. Doering said. "Celly was very much a book person. He was very loyal."
"We have 12 people who do the job that he basically did by himself," added Dale Meese, who also works for Seligman.
After retirement, Mr. Meese worked several days a week as a volunteer in the chaplain's department at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South.
Dale Meese said his father was a baseball player of note in his high school days at Covington Catholic. He also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell.
His first wife, Alvera Meier Meese, died in 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Sander Meese; two sons, two stepsons, two stepdaughters, three sisters, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Charles Ashel Cummins, 84, of Covington, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired machinist with Duro Bag Co. and a member of Visalia Baptist Church, Bradford Masonic Lodge, Cincinnati Dulcimers Society, the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimer Society and the Independence Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothea Hutchins Cummins; a daughter, Charlene Harney of Covington; a son, Gary L. Cummins of Morning View; two grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Visalia Baptist Church, Visalia, Ky. 41015.
Billie S. Gilb Einhorn, 88, of Bellevue, died Friday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a retired musician and a member of the Arthritis Association and Bellevue Baptist Church. Her husband, Simon Einhorn, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Helene Cram of Portland, Ore.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bellevue Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Carmelina Mary Lorino Hughes, 73, of Latonia, died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was a member of the church's St. Helen Ladies Society. A son, John Kevin Hughes, died in 1958.
Survivors include her husband, Pat Hughes; a son, Dennis Patrick Hughes of West Harrison, Ind.; daughters, Kathleen Bartlett of Cold Spring, Debby Kreimborg and Susan Gross, both of Taylor Mill and Gina Hines of Miami Heights, Ohio; brothers, Joseph Lorino and Salvatore Lorino, both of St. Louis; a sister, Jennie Hicks of Long Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Elementary School, 3617 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015.
George E. Hutchinson, 81, of Gum Lick, died Sunday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown.

Howard Lee Juett, 83, of Madison, Ind., formerly of Harrison County, died at 11:35 p.m. Friday at Clifty Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madison.
Survivors include nephews, Leroy G. Henry of Williamstown, Richard Henry of Crittenden and Charlie Henry Jr. of Fort Thomas; and nieces, Sylvia Katherine Jackson of Lexington, Emma Fern Hubbard of Hermitage, Tenn., and Roberta Benham of Dillsboro, Ind.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, Ind. Memorials are suggested to charity.
Cornelia Fitzgerald Kelley, 71, of Carrollton, died Saturday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Milton Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Her husband, Orville Lee Kelley, died in 1987.
Survivors include sons, Orville Darrell Kelley of Warsaw and Mikeal Lee Kelley of Sanders; a daughter, Paula Kelley of Carrollton; sisters, Sally Briley and Martha Bayne, both of Milton; three grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasureville Cemetery, Henry County. Ruth J. McKee, 87, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Saturday at Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community in Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Dowling of Cincinnati and Gaye Smith of Fort Mitchell; a son, John Ramey of Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Dean Rogers of Blandinsville, Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
William Hoard Meeks Sr., 87, of Erlanger, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a truck driver with Marmat Manufacturing Co., Erlanger, and a member of Erlanger Church of Christ and Florence Masonic Lodge No. 949 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Meeks; a son, William H. Meeks Jr. of Georgetown; and two grandchildren.

Annette Shay, 45, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

John M. Sligar, 78, of Taylor Mill, died at 4:17 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired vice president with Thomas E. Wood Insurance Co., Cincinnati and a veteran of the Army and Air Force.
Survivors include his wife,
Nila Clingner Sligar; sons, Steven Sligar of St. Louis and David Sligar of Cold Spring; a daughter, Lisa A. Magas of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.
