Sister Mary Eloise, taught 40 years

Sister Marie Eloise Madden taught elementary school students in Northern Kentucky and Ohio for 40 of the 60 years she was a member of the Congregation of Divine Providence.

After she retired from teaching, Sister Eloise was a receptionist at St. Anne Convent in Melbourne, headquarters for the Sisters of Divine Providence in the United States.

She also regularly volunteered at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights and the Veterans Home in Fort Thomas.

Sister Eloise died Wednesday afternoon at the Holy Family Home in Melbourne. She was 95.

Sister Eloise was a native of Southgate. Her first mission was at St. Ann School in West Covington, where she taught from 1931 to 1936.

She spent most of her teaching career in Ohio, but also taught at St. Bernard School in Dayton in 1961 and 1962.

She was a receptionist at St. Anne Convent from 1971 to 1987.

She is survived by a sister, Sister Agnes Marian Madden, also a member of the Congregation of Divine Providence who lives at St. Anne Convent.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Chapel at St. Anne Convent in Melbourne. Visitation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in St. Anne Convent Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Congregation of Divine Providence, Melbourne, Ky., 41059.

Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel S. Bradford, 89, of Maysville, died Wednesday at Maysville Extended Care Center. He was a farmer, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Maysville and a past master of the Aberdeen Masonic Lodge, Aberdeen, Ohio. His wife, Margaret Ellen Bradford, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a brother, Virgil Bradford of Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Manchester Cemetery, Manchester, Ohio.

Josie Pearl Crouch, 85, of Bloomington, Ind., formerly of Boone County, died Thursday at Bloomington Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Richard Dwain Cummins, 60, of Williamstown, died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday at his home after an extended illness. He was a carman with CSX Railroad, Cincinnati, and a member of Williamstown Baptist Church. He also was a member of Colonel Clay Lodge No. 159 F&AM in Covington, Alexandria Order of Easter Star Chapter No. 337 and International Brotherhood of Railway Carmen Local No. 6401 in Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Velosky Cummins; sons, Rick Cummins Jr. of Melbourne, Fla., Randy Cummins of Aurora, Ind., Doug Cummins and Darryl Cummins, both of Williamstown; a daughter, Alesia Bell of Williamstown; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Jacqueline Hesler Doherty, 67, of Cincinnati, formerly of Bracken County, died Wednesday at her home. She was an employee of Mill End Drapery in Cincinnati.

Survivors include sons, David Doherty of Quinlan, Texas, and Daniel Doherty of Germantown; two grandchildren, one step-grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials are suggested to Augusta Nazarene Church, Fourth Street, Augusta, Ky. 41002.

Dorothy A. Sandhaas Douglas, 81, of Alexandria, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker, a past president of Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 3186 in Southgate and a member of Southgate Super Seniors, Bellevue Seniors and St. Mary Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Douglas; a son, Lawrence Douglas of Alexandria; a daughter, Nancy Liska of Grants Lick; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Joseph Lawrence Funke, 31, of Louisville, formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. He was an electrical engineer with United Parcel Service and a member of Kentuckiana Woodcrafters Club. Survivors include his wife, Linda Funke; daughters, Jessica Funke and Lindsey Funke; a son, William Funke; his parents, William and Rita Funke; brothers, Bill Funke, Steve Funke, Dave Funke and Sean Funke; and sisters, Rita Wesselman, Suzanne Daruwala, Shelley Funke, Amy Cooley, Mary Ann Roark and Patsy Funke. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Epiphany, Louisville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Pearson-Ratterman Bros. Funeral Home, Louisville. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Memorials are suggested to Joseph L. Funke Children Memorial Fund, in care of Waddell & Reed Financial Services, 1671 Park Road, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Virginia Ann Kern Krumpelman, 72, of Crescent Springs, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Ben Krumpelman; a daughter, Maryanne Krumpelman of Fort Mitchell; sons, Steve Krumpelman of Edgewood, Kevin Krumpelman, Jeff Krumpelman and Dan Krumpelman, all of Villa Hills; sisters, Betty Kramer and Katie Laker, both of Cincinnati; brothers, Jack Kern of San Francisco and Bill Kern of Juno Iles, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203; or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Phillip R. Liles Sr., 67, of Newport, died Tuesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a machinist with General Electric, Cincinnati, a member of Wilder VFW Post No. 8020 and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Pace Liles; sons, Phillip Liles Jr. and David Liles, both of Newport; a daughter, Patricia Liles of Southgate; brothers, Coy Liles of Leesburg, Fla., and Charles Liles of Everett, Pa.; a sister, Geneva Bowling of Newport; and five grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Entombment was in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

William H. Martin, 72, of Burlington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired lab technician with Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, a member of Florence United Methodist Church and a former Florence city councilman. He was former chief of Boone County auxiliary police and a member of Civil Air Patrol. He also was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Martin; a daughter, Paulette Blackburn of Pittsburgh; sons, Glyn Martin and Lynn Martin, both of Burlington, and Lonnie Martin of Las Vegas; a sister, Vandetta DeArmond of Florence; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Florence United Methodist church, 8585 Old Toll Road, Florence, Ky. 41042. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Margaret Mason, 84, of Owenton, died Thursday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton. She was a retired employee of Eastern State Hospital in Lexington and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Owenton. Her husband, Melvin Jack Mason, died in 1990.

Survivors include sons, Walter Mason and Delbert Mason, both of Owenton; daughters, Betty Carol Wright of Owenton and Linda Owens of Lexington; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 3575 Sweet Owen Road, Owenton, Ky. 40359; or to charity.

Everett Merrill Jr., 52, of Fort Thomas, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a scheduling coordinator with SEM Haven Nursing Home, Milford, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Amason Merrill; daughters, Amy Merrill and Jennifer Merrill, both of Fort Thomas, Susan Christin of Southgate, and Valerie Napier of Loveland, Ohio; a son, Larry Napier of Cincinnati; his mother, Vivian Merrill of Newport; sisters, Linda Blevins and Vivian Smith, both of Newport, Helen Singleton of Vevay, Ind., Gladys Sherman of Southgate, Sharon Frolicher of Grants Lick, Diana Couch of Highland Heights and Olivia Steinmetz of Taylor Mill; and brothers, Dennis Merrill of Crittenden, David Merrill and John Merrill, both of Newport.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Ella Mae Napier, 70, Dry Ridge, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker, the former operator of The Store in Knoxville and a member of Knoxville Baptist Church in Dry Ridge. Her husband, Walter Patrick Napier, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons, Walter Patrick Napier II of Orange Park, Fla., Randolph T. Napier of Florence, Gary L. Napier of Greenville, and Barry W. Napier and David C. Napier, both of Dry Ridge; daughters, Mary A. King of Owenton, Rebecca Hyatt of Frankfort, Virginia D. Ruby and Michelle L. Henderson, both of Dry Ridge, Ella J. Napier of Villa Hills, Lisa M. Godman of Berry; a brother, Shafter Watts of Louisville; sisters, Pearl Hall and Martha Combs, both of Vicco; and 14 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Broadridge Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Future Dialysis Center, St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, 238 Barnes Road, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Jewell M. Alred Ricketts, 73, of Independence, died Saturday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Blanton of Independence; a brother, Maxon Ricketts of Detroit; sisters, Mossie Fore of Fort Meade, Fla., Maxine Simeson of Miami Beach, Fla., and Lorean Anderson of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Community Pentecostal Church, Independence. Memorials are suggested to the church, 11875 Taylor Mill Road, Independence, Ky. 41051. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.

Alice Ware, 92, of Owenton, died Wednesday at Linden Lane Nursing Home, Louisville. She was a homemaker and a member of New Liberty Second Baptist Church. Her husband, Raymond Ware, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, J.T. Irvin of Virginia; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Owen County. Memorials are suggested to Seven Thunder Ministry, 3704 Dena Drive, Apt. 3, Louisville, Ky. 40215.

Isabella D. Webb, 82, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Glencoe Baptist Church. Her husband, Chester Webb, and son, John Webb, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Foneta Murphy of Florence; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Sunday.
