Charles E. Class, quiet life of kindness
The virtue of Charles E. Class could be found in the details of his quiet life of faith and kindness.
"He lived his religion. Let's put it that way," saids his brother, Irvin Class of Alexandria. "He was very likeable and sort of quiet. He didn't drink or smoke."
Mr. Class worshiped as a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ in Bellevue.
Mr. Class, 87, of Fort Thomas, died at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
A native and lifelong resident of Fort Thomas, Mr. Class was a welder and sheet-metal worker with Master Craft Metals.
He was a former owner of Dari Freeze in Bellevue, where he worked with his wife Murriel Class and his children.
Mrs. Class died in 1992.
"He and my mother and I were all in it together," said his daughter, Charlotte Schutte of
Villa Hills.
Early in life, Mr. Class played semi-professional baseball in the Greater Cincinnati area. Minor league baseball scouts recruited him to play, but he declined the offers.
Mr. Class was an avid sports fan all his life and bowled for many years.
"He was an all-around sports fan, but baseball was his favorite," Irvin Class said.
Other survivors include his daughter Marilyn Ollberding of Aurora, Ind.; sisters, Florence Elswick and Emma Beck, both of Alexandria; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Betty R. Beach, 65, of Warsaw, died Sunday at her home after an extended illness. She was a retired secretary with Ashland Oil Co. Her husband, Fredrick James Beach, died in 1991. A son, James Edward Beach, died in 1996. A daughter, Ruth Ann Beach, died in 1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Pettit of Indianapolis; sons, Fred Beach and Timmy Wayne Beach, both of Milan, Ind.; brothers, Jerry Kettle of Newport, Charles Kettle of Aurora, Ind., and Larry Kettle of Portland, Ore.; sisters, Freida Steele and Ina Lee Bevis, both of Aurora, Ind.; a niece and nephew, Alma and Vernon Proctor, who took care of her; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, Ind.
Effie Beulah Hadley Brown, 93, of Covington, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George Brown, died in 1989. A son, Vernon Brown, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons, Curtis Brown and Kenneth "Wayne" Brown, both of Covington; a daughter, Beulah Fightmaster of Florence; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
James R. Buckner, 57, of Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Falmouth, died Saturday at his home. He was a meat cutter with Sam's Club, Tampa, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Sue Buckner; a daughter, Laurie Blevins of Independence; a stepdaughter, Lisa Lyon of Falmouth; a stepson, Roger Hammond of Falmouth; a a brother, Joseph Buckner of Butler; a sister, Clara Grant of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. North Meadowlawn Funeral Home, New Port Richey, Fla., is handling arrangements.
Audrey Carty, 64, of Covington, died at 12:03 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a receptionist at the hospital.
Survivors include a son, Ronald R. Eubanks of Bromley; daughters, Melonie Faller of Covington and Laura Hamby of Independence; and a brother, Herman Faulconer Jr. of Erlanger.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
James W. English, 42, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a machine operator with Parkway Products, Boone County, and a member of the Love and Faith Fellowship Church, Newport.
Survivors include his mother, Anna English of Newport.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Goldie Marie Fouch, 75, of Cincinnati, formerly of Newport, died Aug. 10 at Summit Nursing Home, Cincinnati. She was a private practical nurse and a member of Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Gary Fouch of Covington; a brother, Keith Markins of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Dorothy Camper and Jean Swann, both of Cincinnati, and Thelma Fellure of Barboursville, W.Va.
Graveside services were Thursday at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Joseph Lawrence Funke, 31, of Louisville, formerly of Demossville, died Wednesday at home in his sleep. He was an electrical engineer with United Parcel Service and a member of Kentuckiana Woodcrafters Club.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Funke; daughters, Jessica Funke and Lindsey Funke; a son, William Funke; his parents, William and Rita Funke; brothers, Bill Funke, Steve Funke, Dave Funke, Sean Funke and Dan Funke; sisters, Rita Wesselman, Suzanne Daruwala, Shelley Funke, Amy Cooley, Mary Ann Roark and Patsy Funke; and grandmothers, Dorothy Funke and Mary Tewes.
Services were Saturday in Louisville. Burial was in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Pearson-Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, Louisville, handled arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Joseph L. Tilda Gumm Hocker, 84, of Verona, died at 9:42 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker, a former sales clerk and former owner of a flower shop in Berea. She was a member of Verona Full Gospel Church of God. Her husband, Rev. Richard P. Hocker, died in 1964.
Survivors include a daughter, Josephine Robinson of Verona; sons, Rev. David E. Hocker of Verona and Rev. Marvin D. Hocker of Camden, Ohio; a sister, Mary Houston of Covington; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bowling Funeral Home, London, Ky. James B. Jones, 74, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Union, died Sunday at Cleveland Clinic in Fort Lauderdale.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Chipley Jones; sons, James Binder Jones Jr. of Lexington and Michael Lee Jones of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Lou Jones of Fort Lauderdale; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Lauderdale. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kalis Funeral Home, Fort Lauderdale.
Shirley Mae Bird Logan, 99, of Fort Mitchell, died at 1:52 p.m. Sunday at St. Charles Care Center in Fort Wright. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Thomas M. Logan, died in 1956.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Borcherding of Fort Mitchell; and three grandchildren.

Helen Margaret Lubbers, 79, of Covington, died at 3:43 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Raymond H. Lubbers, died in 1991.
Survivors include sons, William Lubbers of Fort Wright and Donald Lubbers of Covington; a daughter, Margie Patton of Glasgow; and four grandchildren.

Mary Jo Niederlehner, 57, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Sunday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was an accounting clerk with A.M. Kinney Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Louis Niederlehner; brothers, Lawrence Morris of Harrodsburg, Aubrey Morris, Garnett Morris and Ralph Morris, all of Salvisa, James R. Morris of Florence, Carroll Morris of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Wayne Morris of Heidelburg, Germany; and sisters, Irene Crum of Louisville and Shelby Morris of Crestview Hills.

Mario Nocero, 42, of Southgate, died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, after collapsing after a softball game. He was part-owner of Gino's Produce, Erlanger, and was a member of the Horsemen's Club.
Survivors include a son, Rinzy Nocero of Holiday, Fla.; his parents, Roger Nocero of Covington and Frankie Nocero of Seattle; brothers, Rinzy Nocero of Grove City, Ohio, and Giovanni Nocero of Erlanger; sisters, Angela Nocero of Atlanta and Julie Pearson of Birmingham, Ala.; and one granddaughter.

Esther L. Kopp Rhein, 85, of Covington, died at 3:55 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church, Covington. Her husband, George H. Rhein, died in 1974. A son, Paul Rhein, and a daughter, Marilyn Schreck, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Gerald L. Rhein of Crestview Hills, Donald G. Rhein of Cincinnati, David Lee Rhein of Covington and Robert J. Rhein of Independence; sisters, Anna Wimmel of Cincinnati and Katherine Cassidy of Fort Wright; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Virginia Lee Scudder, 70, of Warsaw, died Monday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton after an extended illness. She was a social worker with the Department of Human Resources. Her husband, Paul C. Scudder, died in 1989.
Survivors include daughter, Brenda Leary of Warsaw, Darlene Riley of New Liberty and Edna Hammond of Sparta; sons, Wayne Scudder and Dale Scudder, both of Warsaw; a sister, Edna Goldschmidt of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.
Melvin R. Zeigler, 77, of Burlington, died Aug. 11 at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired business administrator with the Schuylkill, Pa., school system. A daughter, Rebecca Menet, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Dubson Zeigler; a daughter, Susan Troutt of Burlington; and a sister, Betty Hostetter of Camp Hills, Pa.
Services were Friday in Anneville, Pa. Cremation was at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
